Do different meta titles & descriptions delete the canonical origin?
-
Hi,
hopefully anyone knows something about this case:
There is a canonical tag on site "www.xyz.com**/de_de/" **refering to site "www.xyz.com/de-de/".
If the meta title and descriptions are different on both sides - is there a problem that google will not pay attention to the canonical tag?
Do both sides need the same title and canonical?
Thanx for your answers!
Cheers Heiko!

Even if the content on two different pages is identical, there's always a chance Google will not honour the canonical (though this is rare in my experience).
To use rel="canonical" the majority of the content on both pages should be the same, so if only the title and meta description are different it shouldn't matter.
Ideally you should 301 (permanent) redirect one of the pages to the other, if possible. Is there any particular reason you have the two pages?

I hope that helps.

Why isn't there a browser tab title AND meta title?
Personal opinion; as a user, it makes sense for me to want a full 50+ character meta title which displays in a search engine that helps me determine if I want to click that link AND a concise browser tab title that tells me which page and brand I have open. As a search engine, I would (possibly wrongly) suppose that having one more piece user-facing of information would be helpful in understanding a page and that page's relation to the rest of the website. Theoretical example Meta title: A great title for the website I've been dreaming of! | OurBrand Browser tab title: Home | OurBrand

In our reports we get alt tag errors for our banner images. We are unable to add alt tags to the banner images as they live inside CSS. We can add a title tag on the div title for the banner. Does that help with SEO and accessibility?

Faulty title, meta description and version (https instead of http) on homepage
Hi there, I am working on a client (http://minibusshuttle.com/) whose homepage is not indexed correctly by Google. In details, the title & meta description are taken from another website (http://planet55.co.uk/). In addition, homepage is indexed as https instead of http. The rest of the URIs are correctly indexed (titles, meta descriptions, http etc). planet55.co.uk used to be hosted on the same server as minibusshuttle.com and an SSL certificate was activated for that domain. I have tried several times to manually "fetch by Google" the homepage, to no avail. The rest of the pages are indexed/refreshed normally and Google responds very fast when I perform any kind of changes there. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Kind regards, George

Best time to choose a canonical URL & 301 redirect
I have taken on the task of getting a fairly huge eCommerce site more SEO friendly & have just realized that no URL has been chosen as our preferred domain. Should we designate a preferred domain now or wait until after the first of the year since we are hitting our busy period right now?
