Blog RSS behind https
-
Hi,
I'm finding our blog's RSS feed won't be recognized by various websites. The feed is on a https url. Is this the most likely problem?
Thanks!
-
Well, in theory it's easier to create a http page then it is to create a https page (because of all of the added encryption when sending data via SSL). I would suggest that you discuss this with your designer. If you can get away with non-secure pages, especially if you've got RSS content you're looking to push out, then definitely do.
Best of luck,
Matt

Hi Matt,
Thanks for your comments. Part of the site does needs to be SSL protected as we collect some sensitive information. Obviously the blog and RSS don't need to be protected in such a way, though.
There are no warnings that I'm aware of, but RSS feeds don't seem to recognize the xml url. Firefox has no problem recognizing it though...
I wonder how hard it will be to make the blog and RSS feed only on a http url?
Cheers!

Hi,
Yes, more than likely. Is there a need for your website to always have a secure connection (https)? Some clever websites can do a request to RSS feeds within https pages, but only those that know what they're doing.
Displaying http content (your RSS feed) in a https page might cause some browsers to mis-trust your site's content, and oftentimes displaying warnings to users. Does this happen to your site?
Basically, having any http content in a https site is not best practise.
Best
Matt

Duplicate content issue with ?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=
Hello,
Technical SEO | | Dinsh007
Recently, I was checking how my site content is getting indexed in Google and from today I noticed 2 links indexed on google for the same article: This is the proper link - https://techplusgame.com/hideo-kojima-not-interested-in-new-silent-hills-revival-insider-claims/ But why this URL was indexed, I don't know - https://techplusgame.com/hideo-kojima-not-interested-in-new-silent-hills-revival-insider-claims/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=hideo-kojima-not-interested-in-new-silent-hills-revival-insider-claims Could you please tell me how to solve this issue? Www or https only
All pages are secure on my website now. Some of my pages listed on Google are now https://domain.com and some are https://www.domain.com Which format should I use and why? (with www or without?) I want to give Google a new site map URL in the Google search console? Yes I know both URLs go to the same page.

Switching to HTTPS
Hey Moz Community! I am about to switch my website from http to https. I am wondering if I need to create a 301 redirect of every single page on my site, from the http address to the https url? Or if setting one master that redirects all traffic to the https version. Obviously I am concerned about losing rankings by switching. Code for https redirect of all RewriteEngine On

If I change Tags and Categories in Wordpress blog post, will it negatively affect SEO and cause 404s?
Hi, I have belatedly come to the conclusion that I have been using tags and categories when blogging in wordpress incorrectly. The result is that Google seems to prefer to show my archives and tags in search results rather than the post itself. Not good UX. As the site is only a few months old, am I best to learn my lesson and tag and categorize correctly moving forward or Should I go back in to these posts and clean them up & categorize and tag correctly. If I do this, will it cause 404s and hurt my SEO? Thanks!

To merge website and blog?
I was hoping to get a bit of advice if possible. Our website has a domain authority of 25. Our blog, on a separate platform has a domain authority of 73. In essence, we were wondering if we should move all the content from our blog to our website and then set up redirects? What's stopped us so far is the fear that the links from the blog, with the higher domain authority, are having a positive effect on the website, and if we were to move the content we'd lose the value of those backlinks. So I was wondering if you could possibly advise me on the matter? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Weird Blog tags and re-directs
Hello fellow Digital Marketeers! As an in-house kinda guy, I rarely get to audit sites other than my own. But, I was tasked with auditing another. So I ran it through Screaming Frog and the usual tools. I got a couple of URLs come back with timeout messages, so I checked them manually- they're apparently part of a blog's archive: http://www.bestpracticegroup.com/tag/training-2/ I click 'read more' and it takes you to: http://www.bestpracticegroup.com/pfi-contracts-3-myth-busters-to-help-achieve-savings/ The first URL seems entirely redundant. Has anyone else seen something like this? Just an explanation as to why something like that would exist, and how you'd handle that would be grand! Much appreciated, John.

Internal Blog - Embed Categorized RSS Feeds into Site Web Pages
I am thinking about additional ways to repurpose blog posts through out my website. I have a blog - http://www.domainname.com/blog I would like to use the blog categories, which are aligned with the site structure, and create on-page RSS Feeds for my regular web pages. Anything here that might not be good for SEO? Thank you

Using Thesis as blog platform vs. Tumblr
I read a lot of advantages by using Thesis as a platform for blogging, but I like the themes and other plugins from Tumblr. Are there equivalents at Tumblr to the Thesis benefits so I can go a head and go with Tumblr?
