Duplicate Title Tags and Meta Desc even with the correct Canonical Tag
-
I show a large/growing number of duplicate title tags and duplicate meta descriptions in my webmaster tools. I look at both pages
Both pages have the following canonical url:
<link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="http://www.thatsmytopper.com/wedding-cake-toppers/theme-cake-toppers/beach-theme-cake-toppers.html" >
Why does this show up as a duplicate title tag and description to Google still?
-
Hello! I took into consideration both of your suggestions. I cant really do much with the cake toppers part because the products are what they are. I did try to reduce the number of time it was stated in the content but other than the product titles are trying to be descriptive.
In regards the noindex nofollow issue thank you for clarifying!

Hi Irving,
Doesn't this seem like an instance where Googlbot is not adhering to the "no index, no follow" suggestion? What do you think of my comment below? Is that scenario a possibility in this case?
I ddisagree that this page is spammy. I don't think that the content is an issue. It is, after all, a wedding cake topper. Just my two cents
Thanks,

I believe this is happening because Google bot is interpreting these as two separate pages. Sure there's a canonical on one, so Googlebot might consider that one the source of the original content, however it's still seeing two pages and those pages do have identical Title and Meta Descriptions. In other words, just because there's a canonical tag doesn't pre-empt Google from identifying the duplicate content as a duplicate.
I know it seems counter-intuitive, but I am fairly certain this is the case. Interested to know what others have to say.

this should not be an issue at all since both pages are noindex, nofollow
i suggest you change them to noindex, follow though for better spidering
this is way too spammy too. google may suppress your rankings for "cake toppers"

Using the £ sign in meta title
Is it a bad idea to include a £sign in my meta title? It currently has a price incentive in it. Does Google not like this from organic traffic titles/ meta descriptions? Thanks,

What punctuation can you use in meta tags? Are there any Google does not like?
So I know you can use dashes and | in meta tags, but can anyone tell me what other punctuation you can use? Also, it'd be great to know what punctuation you can't use. Thanks!

Issue Duplicate Page Title
I'm having some really strange issues with duplicate page titles and I can't seem to figure out what's going on. I just got a new crawl from SEOMOZ and it's showing some duplicate page titles. http://www.example.com/blog/ http://www.example.com/blog/page/2/ http://www.example.com/blog/page/3/ Repeat .............. I have no idea what's going on, how these were duplicated, or how to correct it. Does anyone have a chance to take a look and see if you can figure out what's happening and what I need to do to correct the errors? I'm using Wordpress and all in one SEO plugin. Thanks so much!

How do I eliminate duplicate url, duplicate title issues using Joomla CMS?
We have a site using Joomla CMS, integrated with Jreviews and Jomsocial. Utilizing ACE SEF to generate Dynamic URL structure. Our issue is that we are recieving multiple instances of duplicate url's and duplicate titles due to the way joomla is working with jreviews for all our 7,000+ business listings. Site is already ranked for many broad/national keywords, concerned that our state and local rankings are limited by these errors. How can we prevent this from happening without re-writing the entire website?

Canonical Link for Duplicate Content
A client of ours uses some unique keyword tracking for their landing pages where they append certain metrics in a query string, and pulls that information out dynamically to learn more about their traffic (kind of like Google's UTM tracking). Non-the-less these query strings are now being indexed as separate pages in Google and Yahoo and are being flagged as duplicate content/title tags by the SEOmoz tools. For example: Base Page: www.domain.com/page.html

Tracking: www.domain.com/page.html?keyword=keyword#source=source Now both of these are being indexed even though it is only one page. So i suggested placing an canonical link tag in the header point back to the base page to start discrediting the tracking URLs: But this means that the base pages will be pointing to themselves as well, would that be an issue? Is their a better way to solve this issue without removing the query tracking all togther? Thanks - Kyle Chandler0
