Do links from the second page of an article pass link juice?
-
I have been writing for some sites with a high overall page rank and the articles are being viewed as quality by search engines as well. However, they usually put a link to my site at the very end of the article and then break the article down into two pages to increase ad revenue. It seems that I'm not getting much credit for that link even if the page has a high SEOmoz/PR score. I want to know if I am getting the benefit from these links. If not, how do I make sure I get the most bang, even if my link is on a second page of the article?
Here is an example of what I mean: http://www.forbes.com/sites/theyec/2012/08/22/kanban-for-customers-how-to-increase-transparency-in-your-business/

I am unable to click the canonical links EGOL provided, but i see the page two is canonicalled to itself, and the page has PR2 which is good. Maybe cut out some of the extra links in the article, for each extra link you include you dilute the PR being passed to your page.
Whether or not this article is posted on other sites does not matter if he is concerned with links and PR and not as with this page ranking and bringing him traffic. If it's indexed and has PR this is a good page to be linked on, plus it's forbes which is a powerful site so i see good link building here. Mix up the anchor texts if possible between posts, even if it's off by one character or so.

Irving... what do you think about these lines of code?
Do you think that the rel="canonical" could kill value of the second page?
I don't know the answer to this...
<link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="[http://www.forbes.com/sites/theyec/2012/08/22/kanban-for-customers-how-to-increase-transparency-in-your-business/](view-source:http://www.forbes.com/sites/theyec/2012/08/22/kanban-for-customers-how-to-increase-transparency-in-your-business/)"> <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">next</a>" href="[http://www.forbes.com/sites/theyec/2012/08/22/kanban-for-customers-how-to-increase-transparency-in-your-business/2/](view-source:http://www.forbes.com/sites/theyec/2012/08/22/kanban-for-customers-how-to-increase-transparency-in-your-business/2/)"> I see this same article has been published on a few other websites. Could that damage value of the links? Again, I don't know the answer. But it would not surprise me if google filters value from syndicated articles.

If the secondary page is getting indexed it should still accrue PR, maybe slightly less than the 1st page of the article, if people are linking to the article they will link to the first page obviously. But if the site has good navigation structure, the secondary page will get indexed and get some PR too so i wouldn't be too concerned about it.

Thanks for your answer Shane and this was helpful. I have leveraged my article from a branding standpoint, I just want to make sure that I am getting a boost in my site's inbound links as well. I have some competitors who are kicking my butt with links, so I wanted to make sure my articles with high page authority were passing along the necessary benefits.

I would personally not look at this at how much "link juice" is passed, but the exposure, traffic and connections you create from such a powerful publication.
Personally, since it is already a subpage and a blog I am not sure that the amount of "Juice" is relevant as the difference between the two since it is already a byline and below the break is very small - So in my personal opinion they would be treated very similarly in the eyes of the algorithm with of course page 1 possibly getting more "juice" because it is linked to more. (so to technically answer your question page 1 would inherently get more "juice")
But I am just not sure, for now and in the future that what used to be referred to as "Link Juice" is really all that important on the grand scale of Internet Marketing. (but things do change rapidly) and this is just my opinion
Hope this helps

Second anchor text on page. Does it count?
Back in 2008 there was "proof" that the anchor text of a second link on a page would not be counted for the anchor text.
Link Building | | Stramark
In the MOZ starter guide it is still advocated: https://moz.com/learn/seo/anchor-text BUT in 2014 it was reported on searchengine land:
http://searchengineland.com/googles-matt-cutts-one-page-two-links-page-counted-first-link-192718
That the second link might be counted. Direct link to the matt cuts video from 28 may 2014
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AsLWIuNNMU (Even in 2010 there where already some different opinions and work arounds.
https://moz.com/blog/the-first-link-counts-rule-and-the-hash-sign
https://moz.com/ugc/3-ways-to-avoid-the-first-link-counts-rule (2011) Question: did anyone recently test this recently? The deeper questions are:
1:is the LINK value counted if you have more that one link on a page to another page?
2: is the Anchor text counted if you have more than one anchortext to another page? The most interresting i have is that i have a menu from which i link to my important pages. Does it help to put extra links in the content to specific pages?1 -
Why Links from Top Level Domains doesn't Pass Link Equity?
Hello, I have a doubt about Equity-Passing links report of OpensiteExplorer.org According to Sam Weber http://moz.com/community/users/432678 links which pass value from one page to another including followed 301 and Meta refresh links are under Equity-Passing links. I am surprising after looking at the links report generated by opensiteexplorer.org. Most of the article and directory links which have low DA and PA are under Equity-Passing links. Whereas websites like EzineArticle or Articlebase which have good DA and PA are not found in either Equity-passing links or under only nofollow category. Please suggest me if the report of Opensiteexplorer is not good enough or the links from the site like Ezine Article doesn’t pass the link equity. Thanks.

Multiple Links from High Ranking Site Vs. Links from Multiple Domains - What's More Important?
I understand it is important to get links from many quality domains. Currently, I do have links from top domains (PR, Trust) and it I can get more from (high rank) pages on these same domains. Would it be better to focus on expanding my reach (find additional domains to link from) or to continue to build links from the current domains I have a connection with? What is weighted more? I realize doing both is important, but trying to figure out how to best use my time. Thanks! David

We have links from our page at .com and .com/. Should we be concerned about this and try to merge?
When running link reports for our page .com, it redirects to .com/. We do have links for both URLs, but .com/ is significantly more than the other. Should we be concerned by this? Are we losing some links because of this?

Better to redirect domain or to link from home page?
Hi, I have a niche directory and sometimes clients remove themselves because they have discontinued their business practice. If they sometimes provide me with their own website (as they will no longer use it either), is it wiser for me to: a) directly point their URL 301 to my own directory b) keep their website as is, and add a url link to my directory in their homepage c) keep their website as is, and add an anchored link with the industry keyword to my directory Thanks! When searching for high quality links, in a niche area such as real estate, does page rank factor into a search or is page / domain authority the most important factor?
After having employed many different methods for finding good link partners I am now finding it more difficult to reach out and identify good quality links for a niche area such as real estate. Does page rank factor into the search much or is it better to focus on page / domain authority as a major factor?
