Can there be to many 301 redirects
-
Is it possible to have to many 301 redirects. I am currently looking at 156 of them.
Does this create any quality issues with regard to site performance or any other issues.
Thank you for your consideration!

Good point. I did not know that. I will look into it. Thanks again!

Thank you for your insight. This does happen to be a WordPress site and does run a little slow at times. As I mentioned I have just come to know this site; I will keep and eye on it.
Thanks again!

Keep in mind, though, that certain web hosts place limits of the amount you can have. if you're genuinely concerned, I'd check with your host.

I don't really think there's an issue with "too many redirects" on one site, Quilbur, as long as they're implemented cleanly. 156 redirects on a medium-sized site that has been redesigned and so needs url redirects isn't unreasonable.
The more redirects there are, the harder the server has to work to process them, so can lead to a slight slowing down of the website and increase in server load. This is especially true if the redirects are being done inside a WordPress plugin, for example.
Best case is to have the redirects implemented directly in .htaccess (Apache) or in IIS Rewrites( Windows). Wherever possible, use clean, strong regex to combine as many redirects into one rule as possible. It's often possible to combine a whole group of redirects into one line using careful regex variables and wildcards.
All that said - my opinion would be that 156 redirects isn't something to worry about.
Hope that helps;
Paul

301 Redirect - Rank Recovery Examples?
Hi All, I recently did a 301 redirect. Page to Page and the notified google via its console. Its been 6 days since. The home page and one other high traffic page swopped out with the new domain on google search index with 3-4 drops in ranking for each. The rest of the sites pages have been indexed but still reflect the old domain when searched. Recently today my home page dropped even further to the second page of google index for the specific keyword. Can you share similar experiences and how long it took you to recover rank fully? and how long for all pages to swop out on google search's index? Regards Mike

Our web site lost ranking on google a couple of years ago. We have done lots of work on it but still can not improve our search ranking. Can anyone give us some advise
A couple of years ago the ranking on our site dropped over night. I believe someone working here at the time purchased links about that time. We have been doing lots of work on the site since then to improve it. We can not get our rankings back up on google searches. Can anyone give us some advise about what to do or where to go for some help that we can trust.

Language Detection redirect: 301 or 302?
We have a site offering a voip app in 4 languages. Users are currently 302 redirected from the root page to /language subpages, depending on their browser language. Discussions about the sense of this aside: Is it correct to use a 302 redirect here or should users be 301 redirected to their respective languages? I don't find any guideline on this whatsoever...

Explaining 301 redirects instead of 302
I am trying to explain in layman's terms to a client why using 302 for their redirects (which they have done themselves) is not right. There view is they do not seem to listen or believe what is being said to them and do not want to do permanent damage to the old domain so are using 302 redirects. I have explained over and over 301 is needed but I do not seem to be good at communicating this. Can someone give me a good example or description I can use to get my point across?

Multiple domains expiring that have 301 redirects to my primary domain. Am I in trouble?
I recently took on the SEO of a large website with http://example.com. My predecessor bought 40 plus domains for specific cities like Jacksonvilleexample.com, Miamiexample.com, etc. ZERO of the additional domains linked to our main website. The domains that were bought basically had our exact same website in terms of content, links etc that mirrored our main http://example.com. I added 301 redirects to help problems that may be a result of this type of structure. Some of the additional domains were indexed and some were not but all have 301's and as far as traffic is concerned I'm not worried about loosing short term traffic. My question: All the domains are set to expire in June and I don't want to continue to have them 301 redirected to my main domain (example.com). I'm not trying to avoid the additional cost of all the domains but I don't see an advantage to having them so CAN letting all these domains expire hurt me from a long term SEO position if I don't renew them?

Hey, I have interesting questions regardin 301 redirect (At least I think it's Interesting:) ) So i have this websites that compares different lenders, url below 🙂 If you go to the homepage then the first thing you see is different loan amounts in 50-99 euro range. Also you can check out different loan amounts like 100-149€, 150-199€, 200-249€ and so on. For now i have used 301 redirect and Noindex and Nofollow for all the different "loan amounts" urls. Examples below etc Is it a good idea to use 301 on all such pages to point to the homepage?
