XXXXX21ZZZZZZ.com VS X21Z.com which is a better domain?
-
We are launching a new eCommerce business selling hair extensions, wigs and hair loss prevention products.
Our business name will be LXXks21 Zorever, what will be a better domain name to use lXXks21foZZZer.com or the shorter 4 character domain name X**21Z.com **?
Thanks in advance for taking the time to reply.

Agree wholeheartedly. Certainly could be useful for some advertising, like print and mobile campaigns but it's imperative that there isn't any brand dilution.
-
That's an excellent idea, actually. It could be like having your own custom shortened URL. I wouldn't overuse it though; that could confuse people.
-
Oh, sorry. You said the shorter one was easier to remember and apparently that's the part of your response that stuck out in my mind. So we only half disagree.
I think the long one is easier to remember BECAUSE it tells people what it;s about.
-
Hi Marisa. We do agree, that's what I said - " the longer one tells you what the site is about ". That's my reason and it has the additional benefit of the keyword.
-
I'd buy both. I'd use the long one as the main domain and then use L21F.com as a 301 redirect to the main domain.
Reason being, I can see the shorter domain being useful if you're ever running any advertising, including print.
-
Personally I would go with the long one as well. Although for the opposite reason as littlesthbo. I think the longer one is easier to remember because it has meaning and isn't just letters and numbers someone has to remember.
-
It's a question of personal choice in this instance. While the shorter one might be easier for people to remember, the longer one tells you what the site is about and if on the offchance you get people searching how to look 21 forever, you have your keywords in the domain name,
Personally, I would go with the long one.

Value of domain name for domain authority. Please help to figure out!
I am doing SEO for an appliance repair company. Their company website's domain doesn't have high authority, and I am going to increase that by link earning and content improving. I think a better domain name might also help me out. The current URL contain the word "appliance" but doesn't have "repair" in it. I am thinking a new domain that would contain both keywords will serve better. Could you please share with me your thought on this? Am I in the right direction, or not at all? I know Google penalizes mirror sites since this they are considered as duplicated content. I'll upload my content to the new domain and make the old one point to that new URL. I am wondering if canonical might help? Or 301 redirect will be a better solution? Any advise would be highly appreciated! Thank you!

Hey all -- ever seen a client with URLs that keep repeating the domain? Something like: client.com/client.com/client.com/subfolder-name. Any idea what glitch could cause that?

Rankings of Subdomains vs. Main Domain
Here's a puzzler... Our main domain (www.ides.com) doesn't appear in Google (but does on Bing and other engines). We think this is due to duplicate content which we're fixing. However our website's subdomains continue to appear prominently in SERPs, even on Google - here are some examples: IDES Prospector = prospector.ides.com IDES = support.ides.com Cycolac FR15 = catalog.ides.com Why would Google penalize a main domain and its subdomains?

How do I stop www.mysite.com/ showing as a duplicate of www.mysite.com
I have run the campaigns software over a site and it is showing that www.mysite.com/ is a duplicate of www.mysite.com, how do I correct this? Is it a genuine duplicate page? My first thought was to use rel canonical but there is no page called / to put it on. Your suggestions welcomed Sean

Migrating to a subdirectory in the same domain
Hi! I have a new version of my website, running with a different CMS (joomla). In order to install the new CMS while not loosing my all content and links I was forced to install the new site in a subdirectory. So the old website was http://www.mydomain.com And the new one is http://www.mydomain.com/subdirectory I had redirected http://www.mydomain.com to http://www.mydomain.com/subdirectory but I am not sure if that is correct, or if it will generate SEO problems. I named the subdirectory with a keyword, at least to have any advantage of something that to my short knowledge looks bad... What do you think? Another question... I understand that it is a good SEO rule to optimize each page for a different keyword. Is it a problem if http://www.mydomain.com is not optimized for anything? Thanks!

Are multiple links devalued on the same domain?
I'm in negotiations to get links placed on a popular blog with good stats. I'm allowed to pick older posts on the site, and I get to pick the anchor text. Is it best practice to diversify the links by having different keywords pointing to different pages or am I better off pointing as many links as I can at one page (varying anchor text)? Also, is it best to pick a more recent blog post, or is it ok to pick one from say, 2009?

404 vs. 200?
Is it better to have an error page return a 404 or 200? If I change it to 200, will I still be able to see reports of 404's and/ or broken links? Is there a valid SEO reason that Google would have for not wanting error pages to return 200? In other words, is there any SEO reason to absolutely change it to return a 404? I would rather let it return 200 if no priority reason to change. [title edited by staff to provide clarity]
