AJAX & JQuery Tabs: Indexation & Navigation
-
Hi
I've two questions about indexing Tabs.
1. Let's say I have tabs, or an accordion that is triggered with Jquery. That means that all HTML is accessible and indexed by search engines. But let's say a search query is relevant to the content in Tab#3, while Tab#1 is the one that's open by default. Is there any way that Tab#3 would be open directly if it's more relevant to the search query?
2. AJAX Tabs: We have pages that have Tabs triggered by AJAX (example: http://www.swisscom.ch/en/residential/help/loesung/entfernen-sie-sim-lock.html). I'm wondering about the current best practice. Google recommends HTML Snapshots. A newer SEOMoz Article talks about pushState(). What's the way to go here?
Or in other words: How to get Tabs & Accordion content indexed and allow users to navigate directly to it?

hello Philip,
robots.txt file allows you to tell the web bots that crawl your site what is a link and what is not a link that you want to show to the world and to Google
Most search engines will analyze and follow a link only if it contains three query string parameters or fewer.
many parameters in the link shown you have 5 parameters they are what come after the1st / as shown below you have 5. You can block off certain parameters with robots.txt
/en/residential/help/loesung/entfernen-sie-sim-lock
http://www.swisscom.ch/en/residential/help/loesung/entfernen-sie-sim-lock.htm
for some reason whenever I go to your link you have posted I get this error
The requested URL /system/sling/cqform/defaultlogin.html was not found on this server.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff723936(v=expression.40).aspx
http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1235687
please links above regarding URL parameters and Microsoft and Google agree that too many parameters and they will not search the link.
I hope this is been helpful
sincerely,
Thomas

Hi Thomas
Thanks for the resources. I'll have to check with IT which solution seems most practical.
Though I don't understand two points:
- Where does robots.txt come into the game?
- How do we have too many parameters in http://www.swisscom.ch/en/residential/help/loesung/entfernen-sie-sim-lock.htm? Can you specify this?
Thanks!
/Philipp

I would do some serious decoding
if you want to see what Google sees this as a great tool http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/
see what screaming frog tells you then try to fix it in Unicode 8
can fix some of this by going to the bottom of this page and changing your robot.txt.
https://developers.google.com/webmasters/ajax-crawling/docs/learn-more
https://developers.google.com/webmasters/control-crawl-index/docs/robots_txt
you have too many parameters http://www.swisscom.ch/en/residential/help/loesung/entfernen-sie-sim-lock.html
in my opinion you forgot some serious code changing To do.
if you want to use one of the tools Google recommended you'll need I-frame crawling and you can do that with this along with the 2nd URL
https://github.com/crawljax/crawljax/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md
http://code.google.com/p/selenium/issues/detail?id=387
http://www.unicode.org/faq/utf_bom.html
because it is Java based there are some great tools found here as well
I wish you the best and hope that this is helpful,
Thomas

Need suggestion: What is the best internal linking structure for our website to gain in SEO & UX too?
Hi all, We have 3 different editions of our product we are selling with 20 features. 1st edition & 2nd edition comes with 15 features in which 10 are common in each edition. 3rd edition comes with all 20 features. Now what's the best way to interlink and show the navigational menu to highlight 3 editions and features as well? Much appreciated if some one refer me a website with such structure. Thanks

Best Practices for Leveraging Long Tail Content & Gated Content
Our B2B site has a lot of of long form content (e.g., transcriptions from presentations and webinars). We'd like to leverage the long tail SEO traffic driven to these pages and convert those visitors to leads. Essentially, we'd like Google to index all this lengthy, keyword-rich content AND we'd like to put up a read gate that requires users to register before viewing the full article. This is a B2B site, and the goal is to generate leads. Some considerations and questions: How much of the content to share before requiring registration? Ask too soon and it's a terrible user experience, give too much away and our business objectives are not met. Design-wise, what are good ways to do this? I notice Moz uses a "teaser" to block Mozinar content, and I've seen modals and blur bars on other sites. Any gotchas that Google doesn't like that we should be aware of? Trying to avoid anything that might seem like cloaking. Is it better to split the content across several pages (split a 10K word doc across 10 URLs and include a read gate on each) or keep to one page? Thank you!

Q&A DB Script For Client Questions
Our clients usually have a lot of questions about our industry. We implemented Facebook comments (see bottom of: http://www.jwsuretybonds.com/info/faq.htm) on many pages throughout the site to allow our clients to ask whatever they'd like and build additional content using copy on how our clients speak, not industry expert vocab... I have some problems with FB comments: Our answers only show to people logged into FB. For others it looks as if we don't reply. The data pulls from FB, so we don't own it and it is slower than our server. You need a Facebook, Yahoo, or Hotmail account...I want anyone to be able to ask a question. Can anyone recommend a script that accomplishes our Q&A functionality using our own database? Also, I'd like to allow anyone to post without a requirement of an account. If I had a WordPress site, I suppose this would be easier, as I'm sure there are various comment solutions, but I have a HTML\PHP based custom built site.

Duplicate Content? Designing new site, but all content got indexed on developer's sandbox
An ecommerce I'm helping is getting a complete redesign. Their developer had a sandbox version of their new site for design & testing. Several thousand products were loaded into the sandbox site. Then Google/Bing crawled and indexed the site (because developer didn't have a robots.txt), picking up and caching about 7,200 pages. There were even 2-3 orders placed on the sandbox site, so people were finding it. So what happens now?

When the sandbox site is transferred to the final version on the proper domain, is there a duplicate content issue?
How can the developer fix this?0 -
Can only get a few pages indexed on by google
Hi I've touched upon this before on previous questions so apologies for repeating myself. In a nutshell out of the 60 webpages submitted to Google 11 have been indexed and out of the 140 images submitted none have indexed any ideas would be great! Here is a screen shot of what Google Webmaster is showing http://www.tidy-books.com/sitemapshow.png and here is the sitemap - > http://www.tidy-books.com/sitemap/us/sitemap.xml Thanks

Why is this page removed from Google & Bing indices?
This page has been removed from indices at Bing and Google, and I can't figure out why. http://www.pingg.com/occasion/weddings This page used to be in those indices There are plenty of internal links to it The rest of the site is fine It's not blocked by meta robots, robots.txt or canonical URL There's nothing else to suggest that the page is being penalized
