Competitive keyword ranking
-
Hi,
I'm checking the SEOMoz keyword rankings report. I've set about 30 keywords and it's awesome to see how they rank and how many times they were clicked. However it would be interesting to see whether the keywords that I entered are competitive or not. It's not worth putting a lot of energy in making non competitive words rank higher I guess. So my question is: is it possible to see whether or not ranked keywords are competitive or not?
Thanks!

Okay great, thank you!

I'd use the Google Adwords Keyword tool for this. Go in there and insert a couple of your keywords, select [exact] match on the left hand side (and deselect broad match) and have a look of the numbers.
What this will do is pull up the number of people that are searching for the exact keywords you entered per month. It's based on adwords data, not organic, but the trends are definitely transferable. Not only will this tool tell you how many people are searching for the term per month (thereby giving you an idea of the competition), it will also return similar keywords to the ones you have entered, giving you keyword ideas for more competitive terms, should you need it.
A bit of advice: ignore the "competition" column, as that only applies for PPC competition. Instead, look at the global and local (meaning region you selected) number of searches per month. The higher the number, the more people are searching for it.

Keyword research for new website
Hi guys, I'm pretty new to all this so please bare with me if I sound like a total noob. I've been tasked with doing keyword research for our new website to work out what we want to rank for. We are a b2b outsource provider of telecommunication services, contact centres etc. I'm looking for advice on how best to start the keyword research, what I should be looking for etc. At the moment I'm using a list of keywords provided by the sales team, running these through uber suggest for other variations and then putting them through Google's keyword planner. Once I've done that I'm looking at ones with higher volumes of searches with low competition. Is there anything that I'm missing? I'm trying to cross reference this with intent, looking for searches linked to people wanting help, a provider, to buy etc. Thanks in advance for any help guys, I really appreciate it. Leo

How to finalize the keywords for SEO?
Hi, I use the following method for keyword research: Create a long raw list of keywords. Use Google AdWords Keyword tool to find monthly searches. Find raw competition. Find direct competition (via allinanchor: search operator) Calculate KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index) Calculate KOI (Keyword Opportunity Index) Is there any other (better) way to execute the keyword research? Or is finalizing/selecting the keywords only on the basis of monthly searches sufficient? In short, how to select the best keywords from a long list? Thanks & Regards

Is there any value to meta keywords?
The more I read the more I realize that meta keywords are not as helpful as they once were. Is there any SEO value to meta keywords anymore or should the emphasis be put on the content and title tags in regards to keywords? As always, I appreciate any feedback.
