Link being indexed
-
So I found this link to my website on the huffington post
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/13/california-car-insurance-rates-vary-study_n_2122614.html
it's at the bottom in the "around the web" section. My question is this article has been around for almost 4 months yet the link does not show up in WMT. I would like to know if the link to http://www.shiftins.com is indexed and passing authority. Thank you.

WMT only updates their links every couple weeks, and it only shows some of your links. Since this page is indexed by Google, then it should be passing link value.
-
Your site is being indexed and is dofollow like others have mentioned. No one tool can grab every link on the web.

Yes that huff post page is indexed, it is PR4 and the link is a SEO friendly do follow link
<p><img src="[https://s-s.huffpost.com/uploaded/favicons/s/h/shiftins.com/favicon.ico](view-source:https://s-s.huffpost.com/uploaded/favicons/s/h/shiftins.com/favicon.ico)" align="<a class="attribute-value">absmiddle</a>" height="<a class="attribute-value">16px</a>" width="<a class="attribute-value">16</a>"><a target="<a class="attribute-value">_hplink</a>" href="[http://www.shiftins.com/](view-source:http://www.shiftins.com/)">Cheap Car Insurance California - Shift Insurancea>p>

That link is showing up in OSE. It appears to be passing authority and when I checked the Google cache of that article (so it is definitely indexed), your link shows up so there isn't any kind of cloaking/trickery going on there. Have you tried downloading all of the URLs from GWT? Sometimes the table of links in GWT are not updated that often, but the link may show up when you try to download the CSV file.

Losing referrer data on http link that redirects to an https site when on an https site. Is this typical or is something else going on here?
I am trying to resolve a referral data issue. Our client noticed that their referrals from one of their sites to another had dropped to almost nothing from being their top referrer. The referring site SiteA which is an HTTPs site, held a link to SiteB, which is also an HTTPs site, so there should be no loss, however the link to SiteB on SiteA had the HTTP protocol. When we changed the link to the HTTPs protocol, the referrals started flowing in. Is this typical? If the 301 redirect is properly in place for SiteB, why would we lose the referral data?

Tracking links and duplicate content
Hi all, I have a bit of a conundrum for you all pertaining to a tracking link issue I have run into on a clients site. They currently have over duplicate content. Currently, they have over 15,000 pages being crawled (using Screaming Frog) but only 7,000+ are legitimate pages in the sense of they are not duplicates of themselves. The client is using Omniture instead of Google Analytics and using an advanced tracking system on their site for internal and external links (ictids and ectids) in the URL parameters. This is creating thousands of duplicated pages being crawled by Google (as seen on their Search Console and on Screaming Frog). They also are in the middle of moving over from http to https and have thousands of pages currently set up for both, again, creating a duplicate content issue. What I have suggested for the tracking links is setting up a URL parameter in Search Console for these tracking links. I've also suggested they canonical all tracking links to point to the clean page so the pages that have already been indexed point to the correct clean url. Does this seam like the appropriate strategy? Additionally, I've told them before they submit a new sitemap to Google, they need to switch their website over to https to avoid worsening their duplicate content issue. They have not submitted a sitemap to Google Search Console since March 2015. Thank you for any help you can offer!

Link Activity to site keeps decreasing
Recently I have started seeing daily declines in the total inbound links to my site. 4 of my top 5 sources are all experiencing pretty significant declines and in fact, Pinterest has declined from a high of 16,295 links in Nov '15 to a current number that is 8,479 on 1/6/16. Any ideas on what could be causing these declines? I did upload a new sitemap in Nov, could this be the cause?

Webmaster Tools, why does it show 486 pages submitted to web, and only 40 indexed?
I am confused on what a client account shows in WMTs, client account is http://multiview.com. They have a graph showing 486 pages submitted to web, but only 40 are indexed. Also, they recently re-launched, i.e in April 2014, and the new site has about 40 pages indexed.... so I am guessing that the 486 number relates to all the pages that are showing errors in retrieving...i.e. 28 soft 404 errors, 10 access denied errors, 808 not found errors. Does this make sense to explain why there is such a gap between 486 and 40?

What type of links/redirect is Yahoo! using?
So I'm trying to figure out exactly what type redirect or hyperlinking Yahoo! is using on their article pages. For example:
Reporting & Analytics | | William.Lau
https://shopping.yahoo.com/blogs/fashionate/spring-clean-your-beauty-routine--10-tips-on-looking-fresh-this-season-000058218.html Hover over an external link, it shows you the ending URL. Right or left click it, it gives you a 302 redirect. When you actually left click it, it adds and "id" attribute, I assume for tracking. However, when you left click the the hyperlink, it no longer shows as a 302. I have limited working knowledge of web development techniques, so anyone with advance knowledge or have actually done this, it'd be helpful to understand this more.0 -
Tracking clicks from a specific link
Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of help with Analytics. I want to track the number of clicks that my main CTA generates over the course of the month. I've got all my goals set up correctly, but is there some sort of code that I can add to that specific link which will count the goal conversions which it generates? Do I need to set up something specific in GA? Thanks a lot for your help,

Spider 404 errors linked to purchased domain
Hi, My client purchased a domain which based on the seller "promising lots of traffic". Subsequent investigation showed it was a scam and that the seller had been creative in Photoshop with some GA reports. Nevertheless, my client had redirected the acquired domain to their primary domain (via the domain registrar). From the period on which the acquired domain was redirected to the point when we removed the redirect, the web log files had a high volume of spider/bot 404 errors relating to an online pharmaacy - viagra, pills etc. The account does not seem to have been hacked. No additional files are present and the rest of the logs seem normal. As soon as the redirect was removed the spider 404 errors stopped. Aside from the advice about acquiring domains promising traffic which I've already discussed with my client, does anybody have any ideas about how a redirect could cause the 404 errors? Thanks
