Google Index Report
-
Hi,
I have just checked my google webmaster tools account and viewed the index status of my website and it produced the attached graph, which show quite a big spike in indexing during July and August 2012.
Does this look normal or does it reveal anything peculiar?
We did have a new website launched in June 2012 and I re-submitted the sites URL's to google as part of the re-launch and so I am unsure if this may account for the spike.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

Oh if webmaster tools is showing 404's for those pages that is most likely why Google has removed them from the index. It's hard to dig in without accessing your tools but here's what I would do.
- Find out what urls are returning a 404. It could be an error in the sitemap due to a change in the website?
- Set up 301 redirects for these broken links to point where the content actually is.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am very grateful.
It is reassuring to know the spike is due to the resubmission. However, I am at a total about how to go about a) identifying if the pages dropped are product pages sowing different content based on string query values and b) how to address this using the URL parameters.
Are you able to provide further guidance or point me in the direction of further information.
I have attached a screenshot of the URL Parameters listed in my webmaster tools account, which is all 'gobble-di-gook' to me
Also, I have discovered that I have 1,054 pages showing in webmasters crawl error reports because they are showing 404 response code if this helps shed any further light on the drop in indexed pages
Thanks

Your resubmission of the sitemaps for a new website is a perfect explanation for what you see in the graph.
It looks, however, like Google decided to exclude many pages of that spike soon after. If they are product pages that show different content based on query string values, you should tell Google that using the URL Parameters section of Webmaster Tools. This will help to ensure that Google knows these aren't all the same pages and should all be indexed.
Hope that helps!

Google index text that I can not find
Hello everybody, As you can see here: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:G-iicHoDJeYJ:www.billigste-internet.dk/&hl=da&gl=dk&strip=1 Google index the text "Forside" as the H1 tag, and "Right" and "Left" as body text, on my website. But I do not want that Google indexes this. But when I look in mine source code (see here: view-source:http://www.billigste-internet.dk/) I can not find "Forside", "rigth" or "Left", so I can delete it. Is there anyone who can help me where I need to delete the text "Forside", "Right" and "Left", so Google does not index this text? Hope someone can help.

Pages indexed but not seen in wordpress
Hi there, the crawler of SEOMOZ has detected that some pages have no title or a short metadescription. The problem is that I can't see these pages in wordpress (in the backend). These pages are irrelevant and must be deleted but I can't find them. How could they be indexed by the Googlebot? Where can I find them? Any hint? Thanks all.

Why aren't our articles ranking in Google?
We have a website promoting Pakistani lawyers online. The website also has an articles section where we post articles reviewing different legal cases and laws. All of our articles are written by actual lawyers are high quality and unique. Website itself doesn't have large page/site authority but its not a baby website either. I can't figure out why our articles don't rank on Google. Here are few of the articles:

Prevent Indexing of URLs Based on Tags
I started my website as a blog over at Posterous, but decided to turn it into a full scale business website with a self-hosted WordPress theme. Shortly after transitioning from Posterous to WordPress, I noticed that Google was indexing not only my old blog posts, but the URLs of my blog posts based on the tags they have. Is there any reason why this is a problem? I'm sure it shouldn't qualify as duplicate content, but for some reason it just feels a bit sloppy to me to have all of these pages indexed...Is this a non-issue? Should I just be more discriminating with my use of 'tags' if it bothers me? JiGLH.png

Google SERPS showing wrong page.
I am new to SEO and trying to rank for keyword 'corporate entertainment' and my site is currently at 26. However google is showing the homepage http://www.musicliveuk.com in SERPS as opposed to my optomised page http://www.musicliveuk.com/home/corporate-entertainment. Any ideas why it is choosing so show the home page as the most relevant result?
