No Follow Links
-
On my campaign report from SEOmoz I have noticed that all my 3 competitors have 99% followed links versus 1% no-followed links. Should I do the same? How can I check were are the no-follow links on my site? I have found some tool online but it shows me that there are only 2 no-follow links on my website which are both www.cloudflare.com while SEOmoz report shows me that I have 1031...where can i view this links?

Hi Doug, thank you very much for your reply. The thing I am not sure about is that when I link from some of the posts or pages to other posts or pages are no follow or follow. What are the pingbacks which wordpress creates when I link between posts? I normally delete them...should I not? what difference it makes?
-
If you've got internal links between your own articles then leave these as normal followed links.
Make sure your link between your content in a natural and relevant way. Think about how this will help people navigate you site and find the content they're looking for.
These internal links help provide context/relevance to your content and help search engines establish which pages on your site are important.
I had a problem with content being copied off one of my sites and re-posted elsewhere.
The use of internal link between my articles meant that I at least I got some referral traffic from these sites (they had copied my link too) and also got some inbound links.
You'll need to make sure that your internal links contain the full address (www.domain.com/blog/article) and not just a relative path (/blog/article) otherwise they won't link back to your domain.
If it happens to you, you'll want to watch which sites are doing this though - watch out for links from spammy, low-quality neighbourhoods.
Hope this helps.Doug.

Thank you Dough for all the info and sunny greetings from Diani beach, I understated what you mean. And how about the internal links? When I link from one post to the other, the wordpress I am using will create pingbacks which I am deleting, are these also not now follow links? Should I delete them or should I leave them? I am sorry if this is stupid question, it is not easy for a girl to get it all:-(

Of course percentages can hide a lot of data! I'm sure you're looking at the volume of links as well as the percentage.
The ratio of followed / no-followed links is just one indicator of how natural the links to the site are. Also in the mix are the authority of linking site, position on the page of the link (footer links vs in content links), site wide links, anchor text (how optimised etc).
Looking at your competitors can give you some great ideas for your outreach, but I would be cautious about trying to replicate everything they're doing.
When you're looking at your competitors link profiles it's a good idea to understand what is natural for your niche. Make sure you don't just look at your 1-3 top competitors, but a broad range of sites.
Here's Tom Anthony's article on Link Profiling:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/link-profile-tool-to-discover-linking-activity
My advice would be to build natural, editorial links where there's a legitimate reason why the link should exist then you can't go far wrong.
You ask how to check where are the no-follow links on your website? Are you looking for no-follow links pointing at your site?
You can do this using open site explorer. Select show "Only nofollowed" from "only external" to "pages on this domain"
If you want to see no-follow links on your own site, linking out to other sites on the web then you can use the SEOmoz tool bar to highlight no-follow links. Depending on the size of your site you might want to use a spider like screaming frog to do this. (You can do an export of all your outlinks - it's under advanced export menu)
Also, you can get a lot more info our of the SEOmoz craw report by downloading the csv file and looking at it in Excel (or your preferred spreadsheet app!)

Hi Tom, Thank you very much for your reply. I just then do not understand why we are not on the first page with our website http://villasdiani.com and our competition http://dianilife which looks like a spam and when you open it is all broken is there!

There's no magic number/ratio/percentage for nofollow links. You shouldn't aim to replicate another website's number of nofollow links specifically, as there'd just be no benefit in doing this.
Focus on earning links in the proper way - by producing quality content and offering a first class service. You're not going to be seen any more or less trustworthy by Google if you have 1%, 5% or 10% nofollow - it won't make a lick of difference to them.

Getting a sitewide links from one domain as oppsed to few links from certain pages, a good, bad or horrible idea?
Hello, I have a website that is performing really well in Google for country specific Real Estate Website. I have had this site for just about 2 years and I have 4600+ indexed pages, and about 50 of my main keywords appear in top 10 results on Google. I have now started a second site with a brand new domain, its only about 2 months old. This one is a Travel website and again its country specific (same country that real estate website is performing well in) and since its still building up the content and has barely a couple of backlinks, I am thinking of adding a linkback to it from my Real Estate Site. Is it a good idea to add a site wide link back from header section of the real estate website to my travel website? Both sites has same country and most of the keywords in both relate to this country. Or will I be better off adding a few text links from few pages with best Page Authority? Or - do you suggest that I do not link the two at all? Both sites are hosted on different servers, with different IP's and one is on windows server created in asp.net while another is a magento site. Any advidce / insight will be much appreciated and thank you in advance.

How do I find links that link to several competitor sites?
I want to find linking pages that link to several of my competitors. Those are likely to be lists of tools I can also add my website to. My application is a dashboard tool/kanban board. So if I find a page linking both to say kanbannery.com and kanbanflow.com it will be likely to be a collection of links to kanban tools, ad my application can be relatively easy added. Magestic SEO has a "clique hunter" - is there anything similar in MOZ suite of tools?

Buy links
I know that many of you are against the whole thing with buying links. Your feelings put aside. Will it be better for my site to buy links or even do link exchange? Haven´t the crawlers been thought by now how to find these untrue links? I have read somewhere that the stop after 100 links, aren´t they smarter than that?

What are the pros and cons of using a link builder? Can link building be outsourced?
Hi, I have great content on my website which I would like to build external links to from other websites. I am told this will increase my domain authority and ultimately help search engine ranking positions. I have very limited time in my hands and now thinking of outsourcing the link building component to a specialist. Is this a good way of doing it? Could you recommend professional link builders?

Links in the Classifieds
We rent apartments. One way we use to find clients is to advertize these apartments in Classifieds. Generally, we use free ads. Sometimes, for very popular sites ( like Kijiji), we pay so our ads can be seen first. Could this be a problem with Google? Some sites send us clients, many of them never do. We keep putting ads there because of their PR. What is the worth of this kind of links? Thanks for your answers.

Link building
Hello all ! I would love some opinions about one Link Building technical aspect from SEOs, link builders ... How important is the number of outgoing links on the page you have the opportunity to place a link ? (from a scale of 1-10 / what about where dose this factor fits overall with your check list , as important to consider as far as link building) Would you place a link on a page with 200+ outgoing external links if the page is ok (not involved in selling links, all links are related with the subject, target page, anchor text etc) or you would go with a link on a 10-15 links per page but not that 'powerful' and not that related (not spammy but more general on the subject that can contain links to some other non related resources). Eg: Option 1: www.whatever-name.com/links.html the entire domain is about x. It has 250 links in that page (in the links.html) all links on the links.html pages are somehow related / resources with x. Your link can be placed with an anchor text related with x that will target a page on your site related with x. Domain page rank : 6 (as a general indicator), Page PR, the links.html one, PR: 2 Option 2: www.some-other-name.com/x-is-so-great the entire domain is NOT about x, just the page. It has 5..10 links in that page (external links more or less related with x - but not spammy) Your link can be placed with an anchor text related with x that will target a page on your site related with x. Domain page rank : 3 (as a general indicator), Page PR, the links.html one, PR: 1 What's your best option ? Thanks !

Linking strategy between my own sites
Hi, I have one main site, let's call it food.com I also have 10 smaller sites, let's call them mexicanfood.com, indianfood.com, italianfood.com etc food.com is on its own separate dedicated server the 10 smaller sites are all on a shared IP in hostgator I don't want Google to think that I have created the 10 sites for only purpose of creating links to each other. So, would you recommend that all those 10 sites link to each other? or should there be no interlinking within those 10 same IP domains? What about linking from those 10 sites to my main site? How should I structure my own backlinks not to get penalized by Google ?
