Directory listing and open site explorer
-
As per my previous post regarding my new client. I am dissecting all the previous seo companies docs and basically there are hundreds of directory listings on paper however site explorer does not show any.
my question is this does site explorer not list directories site or are they worthless?
-
thank you, I always forget about Majestic. I am currently checking the directories manually. and at present I do not have access to webmaster tools. I will give Majestic a go thanks

If you don't see them in OpenSiteExplorer, you could maybe try MagesticSEO to see if you can see them there.
If you don't see them in Magestic, you could actually visit the directory to see if your site is listed.
Also, Google Webmaster Tools does list links to your site under Traffic > Links to Your Site.
Hope this helps.

thank you is there any way of showing every backlink?

OSE doesn't show all the links. Just because its not listed doesn't mean its not relevant. I have a couple of websites that have links from the BBB and those are not listed in the explorer.

Networking sites / paid links
A national networking company charges its members, say, a few of hundred pounds to become part of their network, which involves offline networking events and online in forums and a directory. All the links of the directory and forum sigs etc are all do-follow. While it's not just a directory, how beneficial a link is this likely to be? The site itself has a DA of 60 and a PR rank of 4. 1k likes on their cnnected FB page and 21 likes on the G+. At the networking meetings they tell new recruits that being a member gives them a very valuable backlink and everytime they participate in the forums they get another do follow backlink. Ive checked and they are dofollow. Is this likely to be a great value link?

Directories Section on SeoMoz
Is this section still being used? http://www.seomoz.org/directories I wasn't sure about the quality of some of them (ex. porn chat). I've seen better lists of directories! 🙂

Links are still showing in Opensite explorer?
I did some link building for some friends last year, since then our relationship has changed & I removed the links I created. It's been 2 months & the links still show up in Open site explorer, & their website is still kicking butt. How long will it take for the links to be unassigned for their profile?

Linkbuilding Suggestions For Technical Site
Hi Mozzers, I'm facing a tough link building challenge for a manufacturer's representative of technical controls and am struggling to find links beyond directories. The site mainly consists of manufacturers products and creating original content is tough for me because of the technical nature of the business. Any suggestions welcome.

Should I abandon directories?
To say I'm new to SEO would be an understatement. I am heading up marketing for a firm and they have zero web presence. I've used Alexa.com to check out our competition and one site in particular has about 150 sites linking to it. I dove in deeper and created a spreadsheet. The majority of these links are sketchy, paid directory listings (or what look sketchy to me). The confusing part is, they rank first on Google when I search for industry keywords. Is it because of these directories? Should I follow them or avoid them completely? I'm planning on creating content and pushing that out to reputable industry sites. I figured getting links/mentions from these would help SEO. Should I only target these high value sites or would submitting articles to the directories with "article" sections offer any assistance? It seems as though my SEO knowledge is limited to less-than admirable tactics, although not by choice. I am planning to dive into paid search in the coming weeks but wanted to know of any "ground work" I could do aside from pushing content and paid search. It seems like there are 1,000's of these paid directory sites and I find it hard to believe they will offer me a benefit...it's just the competition is on them and something is working. Sorry this is so remedial, but I need to figure out where to go!

Open Site Explorer and comparing links of competitors , then export the differences?
Hi, I'm totally new to this community so please forgive me if this question is a bit dumb.

A client of mine is trying to get better rankings for a specific keyword and if we check out the competition we notice that our site has way better and more unique content. The tools here at SEOmoz indicates that the competitor sites have more authority, and so probably more backlinks. With the Open Site Explorer I can quickly see what sites are linking to competitor sites.
And since we're in the same country and trying to rank for the same keywords we also are after the same backlinks. Now there are a few that my client is missing compared to the competitors.
So I would love to get a document that tell us what backlinks we are missing instead of
downloading many reports and do all the checks manually. Is this possible? Thank you,

Value of a link from very large profile site
Hello We have an opportunity to get a link from a very large traffic site. It comes with a price tag, and Im wondering if it is worth it. Is it ok to mention the page and cost? It is the 5th largest internet site. Would be on their benefactors page. There are many other sites linking from the page, and its obvious they are on there for the link value. I know sometimes one link can do wonders for rankings, where thousands of others can not. But wondering if there is any way to quanitfy this. Is it worth it for the value of the backlink? If we link to the home page, the link juice (alot I hope) would pass through to the deeper pages, and increase their rankings for their target keywords? Thanks for your advise. Sam
