Unique shop
-
Hello
I have several websites www.example1c.om and www.example2.com and I would like to create e unique shop page where all the users that want to buy would be redirected, something like shop.example.com.
Now, each website has its own catalog section but with this new system, if a user clicks on buy he will be redirected to shop.example.com like this:
www.example1c.om/catalog click on BUY and redirected to shop.example.com
www.example2c.om/catalog click on BUY and redirected to shop.example.com
shop.example.com will be on a different server than the other 2 websites.
Is it ok if I do a 301 from 1 server to the other server or I can be penalized?
thank you

Hi Eduardo
It's perfectly fine to put in a 301 redirect to a webpage on a different server. A number of people redirect entire root domains to completely new websites - you won't be penalised just by doing this.
I'm not sure whether your sites are related to each other, but if they are just ensure that all of the content on them is as unique as possible before linking to your shop domain.

An informational product page AND a shop page (for same brand)
Hi all, This is my first foray into e-commerce SEO. I'm working with a new client who sells upscale eBikes online. Since his products are expensive, he wants to have informational pages about the brands he sells eg. www.example.com/brand. However these brands are also category pages for his online shop eg. www.example.com/shop/brand I'm worried about keyword cannibalization and adding an extra step/click to get to the shop (right now the navigational menu takes you to the information page and from there you have to click to get to the shop) I'm pretty sure it would make more sense to have ONE killer shopping page that includes all the brand information but I want to be 100% sure before I advise him to take this big step. Thoughts?

Handling "legitimate" duplicate content in an online shop.
The scenario: Online shop selling consumables for machinery. Consumable range A (CA) contains consumables w, x, y, z. The individual consumables are not a problem, it is the consumables groups I'm having problems with. The Problem: Several machines use the same range of consumables. i.e. Machine A (MA) consumables page contains the list (CA) with the contents w,x,y,z. Machine B (MB) consumables page contains exactly the same list (CA) with contents w,x,y,z. Machine A page = Machine B page = Consumables range A page Some people will search Google for the consumables by the range name (CA). Most people will search by individual machine (MA Consumables, MB Consumables etc). If I use canonical tags on the Machine consumable pages (MA + MB) pointing to the consumables range page (CA) then I'm never going to rank for the Machine pages which would represent a huge potential loss of search traffic. However, if I don't use canonical tags then all the pages get slammed as duplicate content. For somebody that owns machine A, then a page titled "Machine A consumables" with the list of consumables is exactly what they are looking for and it makes sense to serve it to them in that format. However, For somebody who owns machine B, then it only makes sense for the page to be titled "Machine B consumables" even though the content is exactly the same. The Question: What is the best way to handle this from both a user and search engine perspective?

Help with a unique bounce rate problem!
My company ranks very well for the target keyword "blue link" but as it turns out Hyundai launched a new "Blue Link" service. Given that we are a much more niche offering, many of the searches for blue link are for hyundai. Because people tend to click on the first results without even reading anything, we have seen an increase in traffic as well as a huge spike in bounce rates once they realize we are not the right company. Our listing on Google is pretty clear what we are so I'm not sure how to fix this problem . . .

Moving a blog from unique domain to root /blog/ but on 2 different servers? HELP!
I have a main site hosted on one server, I have the blog hosted on another server - BOTH of which my team has FULL control over. I ultimately want the blog to reside on the root domain: www.mysite.com/blog/ My network team is saying "DNS will not allow this to happen, the resolution will ultimately have to be on blog.website.com" Has anyone out there done this? Is it even possible? HELP!
