Dofollow vs nofollow for place listings?
-
Our travel website has thousands of places, each with an individual page, that users can interact with via our site. The info includes a link back to the place's main web presence if available (homepage, Facebook page, hosted listing elsewhere, etc.).
We have no problem passing along PageRank to these sites and setting the link as dofollow. However, due to the sheer number (50k+) of these place pages that have the same anchor text of "Visit Website" in the same location on every page, I fear Google will see us as spammy and ding us.
That said, would it be better to set these external links as dofollow or nofollow (or leave them as part of the Javascript as they are now)?
Thank you in advance!

Thank you both! You've confirmed what I believed. Just wanted to be on the safe side.

As long as you are not linking to spammy sites, I don't see why Google would penalize your site for linking out. You should only nofollow the links if they are low quality sites (in which case, why are you linking to them?) or they are competitors and you don't want to pass them any link value.
-
I don’t think there will be a problem in leaving them as it is at the moment... the reason is because they are pointing back to the entities that are quite famous like facebook page, home page and more...
Make it no follow will indicate Google that the other websites are not quality and this is why you do not want Google to pass link juice...

Homepage Vs. Inner Page Backlink Building?
If I'm trying to rank multiple inner pages, when does strengthening the homepage become more productive than strengthening the inner pages themselves? Is there a strategy to this? For example, maybe you build up a few dozen backlinks to each inner page, and then focus all your efforts on the homepage? Because, from my understanding, strengthening the homepage will go a long way towards helping your inner pages rank. Is that correct?

Does the ratio of external nofollow links to external "do follow" links matter in terms of SERPs ranking?
My site has an external link nofollow:dofollow ratio of approximately 1:1 That is, there are about as many nofollow external links as "do follow" external links. I have an impression that the ratio of no-follow to "do follow" links is a factor in the way that our website shows up in SERPs. I have the impression from reading a variety of sources, and from looking at Seomoz, that calculate "trust" factors as if they mattered (in SERPs), that seem to value a relatively low nofollow:dofollow ratio. Am I correct about that? Thanks,

When is it time to buy a $100+ paid directory listing?
I have been working on a site for 11 months, everything is looking great. Apart from a small amount of highly important keywords which rank #2 to #5. 1. How will I know if I need to invest in a paid directory? 2. Will one listing be enough to make a difference? I am looking at a listing at BOTW.org. Other recommendations welcome.

Homepage vs specific page Backlink
Hello, I have a local business and have been working on getting backlinks for highly relevant keywords. I have keyword optimized pages (keyword in URL, title, H1, etc) but I have been sending backlinks to the homepage, as these keywords represent the core of what we offer. See example below: car repair car repair london auto repair auto repair london I have been sending backlinks (with the correct anchor text of course) to the homepage, am I better off sending them to the specific pages? One more thing: the SEOMOZ report talks about cannibalisation of keywords, where for example the page optimised for "car repair" links to "Car repair london". I have links to the optimised pages in a footer at the bottom of every single page on the website, is this bad practice? (considering SEOMOZ talks about cannibalisation? Should I do something else instead (or eliminate the footer links altogether?) I would appreciate your expert advice.

Follow or Nofollow outbound links to resourceful, related site?
As I am going through and redeveloping a website, I am trying to add some external links to resourceful information regarding this page. Should I put a nofollow or follow attribute on these? I am only putting 1-5 links per page to associations and other organizations that would be beneficial to the visitor. I am worried about the number of outbound links causing me to get penalized. Ideas?
