Does anyone know of a way to do a profile level filter to exclude all traffic if it enters the site via certain landing pages?
The problem I have is that we have several pages that are served to visitors of numerous other domains but are also served to visitors of our site. We end up with inflated Google Analytics numbers because people are viewing these pages from our partners' domains but never actually entering our site.
I've made an advanced segment that serves the purpose but I'd really like to filter it at the profile level so the numbers across the board are more accurate without having to apply an advanced segment to every report. The advanced segment excludes visits that hit these pages as landing pages but includes visits where people have come from other pages on our domain.
I know that you can do profile filters to exclude visits to pages or directories entirely but is there a way to filter them only if they are a landing pages? Any other creative thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

What do you think about adding some code to make the analytics code only fire if the referring domain is our domain?
-
do what takeshi says. this is common practice for PPC campaigns, etc
-
Yeah, I'm about 99% certain that this is not possible. Filters are essentially evaluated at the hit-level. There's no way to exclude a full session according to one hit characteristic.

Why not just create a duplicate version of the page without the Google Analytics tracking? Include appropriate noindex/canonicals to ensure that the duplicate content doesn't get indexed.

Any idea why this page is an absolute magnet for bots?
This page on our client's website seems to be an absolute magnet for bots, and it's skewing our Google Analytics stats: https://cbisonline.com/us/catholic-socially-responsible-esg-investing/proxy-voting/ We already filter out lots of bots in GA, primarily through a segment we created several years ago and continue to build upon, but plenty of spam traffic still manages to slip through – mostly to the page above. Last quarter, almost all of it came from two random cities in Europe, so we're going to filter out traffic from those places. (At least for now – not an ideal solution, I know.) But I'm really wondering what drives so many bots to that page in particular. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Universal Analytics: Why does Google Organic appear as Direct traffic?
Hi there, When I enter the site via Google Search and follow myself via Real-Time Analytics I appear an organic visitor (which is good). When I browse and visit the site I still am an organic visitor. However, as soon as I fill in the contact form (gravity forms) and land on the "thank you page" I appear as a direct visitor with Google as the source. Since I have the thank you page set-up as a goal, Analytics incorrectly attributes these conversions to the direct medium instead of the organic medium. The tracking code has been installed on all the pages and all conversions are being recorded. What is going on?

Direct Traffic Spike
In February, I transferred an HTML site to a WordPress Platform. Since then, Direct traffic has spiked to nearly 400% since the WordPress transition. The Direct traffic spike took roughly 2 months before it started to kick in. Does anyone know what this could be attributed to?

Bug in Virtual Page view javascript
I am trying to learn the basics of tracking outbound links with this javascript code set up on this url http://queenofhats.com/links.php I think I have a bug in my javascript that tracks clicks on an outbound link. http://www.portlandmaine.com When A person clicks on the "Portland Maine" link, in theory it should create a virtual pageload of a page called "portland_maine". I have clicked on the link, but when I filter on "portland" in the Top Content section of Google Analyitcs, there are is no record of the click. So I think my javascript code has a bug. Any comment on the javascript would be most welcome. I just noticed that I have \ before /links. Is the "" the source of the problem? Thanks!!
