-
I currently have this under my robot txt file:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /authenticated/
Disallow: /css/
Disallow: /images/
Disallow: /js/
Disallow: /PayPal/
Disallow: /Reporting/
Disallow: /RegistrationComplete.aspxWebMatrix 2.0
On webmaster > Health Check > Blocked URL
I copy and paste above code then click on Test, everything looks ok but then logout and log back in then I see below code under Blocked URL:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /
WebMatrix 2.0
Currently, Google doesn't index my domain and i don't understand why this happening. Any ideas?
Thanks
Seda

Try to spider your site with this link checker tool
bots cannot accept cookies and your site is requiring cookies to be enabled in order to be visited so Google cannot access the site because you are not allowing the visit without the cookie being dropped is most likely the issue.
Disable cookies on your browser and clear your cache and see what happens when you try to visit your site, are you blocked?

Thanks Irving, I need a little more help, I am not quite sure if I understand it. What is it that needs to be fixed here?
-
I couldn't relay on SERPS as the website is old, it's been indexed for quite so i didn't think that SERP results would change that quick. I've been receiving the error since yesterday.
It's on SERPS today but would it be there tomorrow? The reason I am saying that is because when i change the Page Title, it doesnt get changed on SERPS instantly, it takes a day or so before i see the changes on SERPS.

TECHNICAL ISSUE
It's your cookie policy blocking bots from spidering. Need to fix that at the server level. Easy fix!

Your robots.txt is fine.
-
Okay. But that doesn't mean it isn't being indexed. Here's a fun test: Go to any page on your website and select a string of two or three sentences. Google it. Does the page come up in the SERPs?
(I did this to 3 pages on your site and it worked for all of them. Therefore, your site is being indexed.) Why do you need to Fetch?
-
When I click on Fetch As Google, i get 'Denied by robots.txt'' error.
-
That site is also being indexed. Again I ask, what makes you think it is not being indexed? (cause it is)
-
When I click on Fetch As Google, i get 'Denied by robots.txt'' error.
@Jesse: That's the main website, we've got other URLs.Error appears on positivecollections.co.uk
-
Thanks Irving,
www.positivecollections.co.uk is the url
I've tried to remove everything from the robot file and check again on webmaster, same thing happened It's just blocking the main link
-
Are you sure your site isn't being indexed?
Cause I went to your profile and if http://www.mtasolicitors.com/ is your site, then it is definitely being indexed.. What makes you think it isn't?
-
Are you sure there is nothing else in your robots.txt - you can share the url if you like
You can delete this it's doing nothing and don't need to attempt to block bad bots

Robots.txt was set to disallow for 14 days
We updated our website and accidentally overwrote our robots file with a version that prevented crawling ( "Disallow: /") We realized the issue 14 days later and replaced after our organic visits began to drop significantly and we quickly replace the robots file with the correct version to begin crawling again. With the impact to our organic visits, we have a few and any help would be greatly appreciated - Will the site get back to its original status/ranking ? If so .. how long would that take? Is there anything we can do to speed up the process ? Thanks

Should I use noindex or robots to remove pages from the Google index?
I have a Magento site and just realized we have about 800 review pages indexed. The /review directory is disallowed in robots.txt but the pages are still indexed. From my understanding robots means it will not crawl the pages BUT if the pages are still indexed if they are linked from somewhere else. I can add the noindex tag to the review pages but they wont be crawled. https://www.seroundtable.com/google-do-not-use-noindex-in-robots-txt-20873.html Should I remove the robots.txt and add the noindex? Or just add the noindex to what I already have?

Application & understanding of robots.txt
Hello Moz World! I have been reading up on robots.txt files, and I understand the basics. I am looking for a deeper understanding on when to deploy particular tags, and when a page should be disallowed because it will affect SEO. I have been working with a software company who has a News & Events page which I don't think should be indexed. It changes every week, and is only relevant to potential customers who want to book a demo or attend an event, not so much search engines. My initial thinking was that I should use noindex/follow tag on that page. So, the pages would not be indexed, but all the links will be crawled. I decided to look at some of our competitors robots.txt files. Smartbear (https://smartbear.com/robots.txt), b2wsoftware (http://www.b2wsoftware.com/robots.txt) & labtech (http://www.labtechsoftware.com/robots.txt). I am still confused on what type of tags I should use, and how to gauge which set of tags is best for certain pages. I figured a static page is pretty much always good to index and follow, as long as it's public. And, I should always include a sitemap file. But, What about a dynamic page? What about pages that are out of date? Will this help with soft 404s? This is a long one, but I appreciate all of the expert insight. Thanks ahead of time for all of the awesome responses. Best Regards, Will H.

What is the best way to correct 403 access denied errors?
One of the domains I manage is seeing a growing number of 403 errors. For SEO purposes would it be ideal to just 301 redirect them? I am plenty familiar with 404 error issues, but not 403s.

Category 404 Error in Wordpress | Help!!!
Hello Gurus hope everyone is having a fantastic day. Right so I've been pulling my hair with this 404 error on links as such: htttp://manvanlondon.co.uk/category/clients/removals/man-and-van-wandsworth This link appears in the category page clients and the /removals/man-and-van-wandsworth part is the link that should take the user on the Man and Van Wandsworth page in the/ from the footer. However this link and all other links in the footer on these category pages/posts appear to be broken ONLY on this category pages, thus creating 404 errors. And those pages(i.e man and van Wandsworth) are not even categorized. The website is www.manvanlondon.co.uk . We tried various things on Wordpress and nothing is working including non-indexing. Has anyone met this problem before? Is there a way to fix it? Thank you for your time, and hope my explanations make sens. Monica

Robots.txt help
Hi Moz Community, Google is indexing some developer pages from a previous website where I currently work: ddcblog.dev.examplewebsite.com/categories/sub-categories Was wondering how I include these in a robots.txt file so they no longer appear on Google. Can I do it under our homepage GWT account or do I have to have a separate account set up for these URL types? As always, your expertise is greatly appreciated, -Reed

Best way to fix 404 crawl errors caused by Private blog posts in WordPress?
Going over Moz Crawl error report and WMT's Crawl errors for a new client site... I found 44 High Priority Crawl Errors = 404 Not Found I found that those 44 blog pages were set to Private Mode (WordPress theme), causing the 404 issue.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | SEOEND
I was reviewing the blog content for those 44 pages to see why those 2010 blog posts, were set to private mode. Well, I noticed that all those 44 blog posts were pretty much copied from other external blog posts. So i'm thinking previous agency placed those pages under private mode, to avoid getting hit for duplicate content issues. All other blog posts posted after 2011 looked like unique content, non scraped. So my question to all is: What is the best way to fix the issue caused by these 44 pages? A. Remove those 44 blog posts that used verbatim scraped content from other external blogs.
B. Update the content on each of those 44 blog posts, then set to Public mode, instead of Private.
C. ? (open to recommendations) I didn't find any external links pointing to any of those 44 blog pages, so I was considering in removing those blog posts. However not sure if that will affect site in anyway. Open to recommendations before making a decision...

Robots.txt: Syntax URL to disallow
Did someone ever experience some "collateral damages" when it's about "disallowing" some URLs? Some old URLs are still present on our website and while we are "cleaning" them off the site (which takes time), I would like to to avoid their indexation through the robots.txt file. The old URLs syntax is "/brand//13" while the new ones are "/brand/samsung/13." (note that there is 2 slash on the URL after the word "brand") Do I risk to erase from the SERPs the new good URLs if I add to the robots.txt file the line "Disallow: /brand//" ? I don't think so, but thank you to everyone who will be able to help me to clear this out 🙂
