Site received penalty, Traffic restricted to 3-4 visits/hour

Dear all
We received a penalty notice at webmaster tools 2 months ago, in that stated "your pages violate our quality guidelines" and "contain some inorganic links to your site". Ours is a Coupon website and tried to follow all quality guidelines given in webmaster central. Also we tried to identify and remove spam kind of links and still we are working on that. Suddenly from yesterday website traffic restricted to 3-4 visits/hour, but website main keyword SERPs are not changed much and still ranking at good positions. my question if any website is under manual penalty, it's traffic will be restricted by Google???. Every link we build manually and not gone for any paid links or reciprocal links. But the sites given some links as sitewide, example we tried to get a back link & submitted url at once only, but it was showing in webmaster Total links 468 and linked pages 1. Can any one please explain, how it can happen?. We are trying to remove these spam kind of links, but from directory owners response is a bit disappointing, kindly any one suggest that, will Google Disavow tool help in this regard and how much time it will take to nullify the links?.
Kindly help us..Thanking you all in advance

So do you think this had any impact as of sep 2013? Im curious to know if this method works at all or removal or modification of other links will still beat it. thanks

Thank you for the time & valuable advice.
Sir, If we stopped link building completely, what will be the impact on website ranking ability?. From last 2 months we already reduced link build-up speed and trying to get some quality back links.
We received manually penalty, due to the previous SEO work done by Free lancer & we received the submission report from him. Many of previous submissions targeted to get back link from Directories and the Linking anchor text is almost similar to the Title/keywords we targeted for ranking.
Kindly guide us to overcome this penalty, without or minimal traffic/ranking drop. Our website age is about 2years.

Yes Alan, on what we are working from last 2 months is diluting the link profile, mostly trying to link with 'brand name' 'click here' or 'read more'/view more kind of anchor texts.we checked with opensite explorer for the anchor text and found around 350 links are having keyword on the anchor text, by diluting the link profile we reduced the keyword based link profile to 1.4% of total back links. In this case can we go for reconsideration request, with out removing the back links. Thanking you in advance.

Alan pretty much summed it up. ONLY go for quality backlinks that happen naturally. If you link profile is over optimized for your keywords you could dilute it with other keywords such as 'click here' or 'read more'.
However, if this is a manual penalty, then you're going to need to get those links removed as best as you can and then submit a reconsideration request to Google.

My advice don't do any link building let them grow organically, and grab the occasional quality opportunity.
One of my sites was hurt by penguin update, I have been too busy to do anything about it. it had a lot of footer links from clients and a lot of forum signature links. I finally removed a lot of them and my site that used to dominate and had dropped off the radar came back to life this weekend almost as well as ever so their is light at the end of the tunnel.
Google does not stop traffic, only affects your ranking, you say that your main keywords have dropped only a little, but your long tail has probably dropped a lot.

Impact on backlinking with https://www.domain or https://domain
Hi, this questions have bugging me for a long time now; we check our website how is indexed on Google and we see that we have most of the backlinks for URL https://www.speedhub.eu , but 15% are linked to https://speedhub.eu , in the past we had our website for http requests redirected via 301 htaccess to https://speedhub.eu without giving it importance, now we have it with www included. Bottom line questions: Is it important if your links are with www or without www, do you lose "link juice" by splitting your backlinks via links with www or without www ? Does Google make a difference for domain positioning via this criteria ? Best regards,

Domain Authority and Fixing the site
Ok, so let's say I have a page on my site that says "Find a Personal Injury Lawyer Boston" Obviously that is very competitive and it is hard to get links for. However somewhere else on my site I have an article that says "10 mistakes to avoid when making a will." In theory, if I can get links to the "Making a Will Page", that increases the domain authority of my entire site, and boosts the likelihood of ranking for "Find a personal injury lawyer Boston." Is this correct? Let me know and thanks for your help!

Is there any Penalty for building in bound inks too quickly?
I was speaking with someone today who was spreading out their link building because they were afraid that getting too many too quickly would incur penalties from Google and Bing. Is this a real thing? I have always been under the impression that if they are high quality links and directories that there was no limit to how many you could add other than the limited availability of the high quality links and directories themselves. I would appreciate some input on this.

Document download sites linking to my site. Should I disavow?
I downloaded my links through the Google Webmaster site and I have a number of new links that appear to be coming from document download sites. They have basically taken my PDFs and have them to where they can be downloaded. They are also linking back to my site and creating what I feel are sketchy links. I don't actually want traffic coming to these PDFs. They are basically sample articles for my writing company and it's just a portfolio. Here's one of the links: http://www.give-me-doc.com/Trailer-Brake-Types.pdf So, what or can I do about them? Should I disavow them? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

Old Site not Passing Along Links?
Recently, we created a new website for a client, and put it on a new domain. We put a 301 redirect site-wide on the old site. The 301 is working correctly, and any visit to the old site is now going to the new one. So, from a functionality standpoint, we're looking good. However, looking at the domain authority of the sites, it doesn't seem that the old links are passing value to the new site. The old site had 43 linking root domains, and a domain authority of 30, compared to the new site with 16 linking root domains and an authority of 22. If I understand correctly, the links should be viewed as pointing to the new site and passing link juice to the new one, correct? Is there a reason why this may be happening that I should be looking into? Any thoughts or advice on this one would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Risks with sharing my original content with other sites
We write our own unique content to our blog a few times a week. The content is written by professionals (doctors and such) and carries a bit of authority. We periodically get requests from other websites who want to post our content on their blog. We also find that some people will just go ahead and use our exact content (often with a link attribution), without asking permission. Is there any risk of us not getting credit for being the original source of the content if others use it in its entirety? Are there other risks? And more importantly, what should we do to make sure we're getting the SEO credit we deserve? Some ideas which have been discussed that may or may not have credence: Only let others use the exact content well after we've been crawled, so we'll be seen as the first publisher Only let people cite the introductory paragraph, with a link allowing them to read more at our site (with good anchor text) Require people to summarize our story, with a link for the full story Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are press release sites useful?
Many of my clients release newsletters and other peices of content qualify as press releases. I have been wondering if people find that the press release sites such as PRleap or PRweb are useful and worthwhile? If so, which do you feel is the best? Is there any research on this? I am planning to record my results from these sites and perhaps make a Youmoz post in the future.
