Internal Links - Anchor Text - Strategy
-
Good Morning...
I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or advice on an internal linking strategy for an e commerce website.
I was thinking about adding a link to all of the subcategory pages that says:
"View All : main keyword" and having my main keyword hyperlinked back to the home page.
This would provide users who have gotten to a subcategory page that may not be exactly what they are looking for simply click that link and go back to the home page to select a different category....
Would having an internal link with the same anchor text on roughly 30 pages hurt my rankings? Wouldn't that help users navigate through my site?
As always, any thoughts/advice or strategy tips are appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Prime,
I don't see there being a problem with this at all, as you said it's helpful for users, however, make sure that it makes sense from a grammar point of view as well, for example, "see all TV's" makes sense, but "see all car insurance" does not. Don't try to shoehorn a keyword in just for the sake of it.
I agree with Karl that breadcrumbs are a good idea both from an SEO point of view and a user point of view.
I hope this helps.

Thanks again, Karl...
Anyone else have any feedback regarding internal links and anchor texts?

I can't see it being detrimental to your rankings and I would say that as long as the list isn't too long then it'd be a helpful thing to have, if, as you say, your users aren't the most techy people!

Thanks Karl...
I don't think i have too many on-page links (roughly 50 internal per sub-category -product listing page). About 20 of the 50 on page links are to specific models (sizes). Each one of these pages has text explaining about the products they would find below. I was thinking of using the last bullet point on these pages to say something like:
"Not what you're looking for, view all: anchor text"
Do you think that is (A) helpful for the user and (B) helpful or detrimental to my rankings
Please keep in mind that many of the people that visit my site are not computer experts (or even anything remotely close to one) and have no idea what "breadcrumbs" are or that they can even click them to go back a level.
Thanks

you need to be careful about the number of onpage links you have. I take it you have your categories or products in a drop down (or some sort of menu) in the top navigation?
I'd recommend using breadcrumb navigation so that if users get to a certain level and decide they need to go back, then they can using the breadcrumb navigation. Your SEO and link building efforts will help you drive people to the right pages so just concentrate on making the user experience as easy as possible.
I would use an internal linking strategy through the content on the page though, especially if the categories/products are similar. Or maybe a "you may also like" section.

Back link from site with DA of 72 to a website domain. Clicking on the link redirects to our website not the attended one.
Hi,
Link Building | | JIMBO16
I've ran a back link check and discovered a good back link to a site which then gets redirected back to my company's website. I have a feeling that an old SEO agency has purchased a small website which has a decent link back from a relevant organisation with a high Domain authority and then redirects the domain to our website to get the link juice. What are your thought on this? Is this really bad practise and possibly damaging? Thanks, Jim0 -
Anchor Text - How many and what do with our old posts
Hello, I have a two larger established websites that achieve over 1000 unique views a day. The sites have done well but we have always had problem with SEO. The vast majority of traffic is from our social media accounts -- we rank low on the SERP - below competitive pages that have less updates and much lower traffic. When I set the sites up I misunderstood a number of key issues but with over 4500 posts and 600 pages it has takes a huge amount of time to change things. I have now realised another issue -- we did not use Anchor Text to link to provide internal links to our keywords on our site. We are now adding them. My question is two fold: How many internal links should we add? From what I read on Moz - 5 to 6 internal links should be the right number. Comments? 2) We have numerous posts ie over 4000 that go back over 4 years. Should I change them all at once or will this flag a spam issue with Google? Believe me after years of problems I do not want another set back. Suggestions and advice would be welcome. Thanks

How to choose a third party agency to help with linking building / SEO strategy?
Hi all, we've not been link building for some time now as we are a small team and been concentrating on other things, such as getting our new look site built and implementing Magento etc. We've historically used external companies to help with link building & SEO... some experience has been good, some bad. Does any one have any suggestions on how a small company can try to choose a decent external company that can help with SEO strategies? There are a lot of options, a LOT of rubbish and a lot of very expensive large agencies that are well out side of our budget (or for a "small" fee simply produce a standardised report on "how to improve your SEO" that can basically be read on the net). We've tried local, smaller companies in order to limit our options .... but that didn't go well either. Any suggestions welcomed. Next is where / how to weight our expenditure and / or our SEO time. Should it be 50% gaining external links (be it by what ever means such as social, checking out where competitiors have links and chasing those possibilities etc) and then 50% internal page SEO, blog content creation, internal linking etc? Thanks again.

A link with "return false"- OSE sees as a No Followed Link
Hello, I couldn't find a clear answer to the impact on SEO for a link written in this way: [" class="expert_info" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">](w</span>ww.yourwebsite.com<span style=) [Does the "return false" act as a "no follow"? I came across this in our link data in Open Site Explorer which lists these links all as "no follows." However, an engineer I spoke to said that it shouldn't impact search engine behavior. Any ideas? Thank you in advance! -Sarah K.](w</span>ww.yourwebsite.com<span style=)

Which Creative Should I Use For The Anchor Text?
Hello, I have a real estate website (I'm using a random one below). We're putting out an advertisement and I'd like to know what the best anchor text would be. The hyperlinks are underlined below. We're trying to figure out if we should hyperlink the entire thing or just the keywords and leave the text around them. Also one of the keywords we're going for is an exact match on our domain (just like "homes for sale" and "homesforsale.com" below). The main keyword is "Homes For Sale", secondary "Real Estate" Out of the options below, which one would you choose and why? Or do you have any other options? We have to stick to this char limit, so the options are limited. Thank you for your help... Multiple Links from High Ranking Site Vs. Links from Multiple Domains - What's More Important?
I understand it is important to get links from many quality domains. Currently, I do have links from top domains (PR, Trust) and it I can get more from (high rank) pages on these same domains. Would it be better to focus on expanding my reach (find additional domains to link from) or to continue to build links from the current domains I have a connection with? What is weighted more? I realize doing both is important, but trying to figure out how to best use my time. Thanks! David
