Rank dropped for website
-
We have seen rankings drop considerably for www.think-ins.co.uk in the last 48 hours, I know Penguin 2.0 has been released but anyone got any ideas on what specifically we might have been penalised for?
Thanks

Hi,
The drop earlier in the year is linked to the fact that we had a complete rebuild and redesign of the website which led to some of our rankings dropping, we were gradually recovering most of our ranking positions but now have seen them drop off severely.
I have just found that a site we have an advert on (www.jr-leasing.co.uk) has put the advert as a site wide link and this is sending over 17,000 links to our home page, could this be playing a part?
Thanks

Hi!
If you were hit by Penguin, you were hit for external links. You must analyze all your backlinks, especially those that have the exact keyword you lost your position on as an anchor text. Make a list of all the external link that come from spammy looking websites, and try to remove them (you can either contact each webmaster or you can use the disavow tool in GWT).
You should check your Google Analytics report and compare organic traffic from today with organic traffic from 21 Mai. See what keywords were bringing most of your traffic and check if you still have the same position you had in Google before the update.
If you don't know what rankings you had before the update, you can use the search engine optimization report from Google Analytics or the queries report from Google Webmaster tool, like this: compare the average position you have today and the average position you had before the update. Before doing that, make sure you filter out all the data for images and mobile (you want your average position to include only web results).
If you are still unsure, there is one more check you can do: search your keyword on bing. If you have the same position on bing - or relatively similar to the position you had in Google - and you are not even in top 10 in Google, then it means you were penalized. For example you still rank with "motor trade insurance" in Bing.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Hi,
It look like you have an older bigger problem with tjis domain -> http://screencast.com/t/Evo7R77NXN2
As you have a big drop early this year. For the last 48h there is no visibility update yet though and you might be down again.
Cheers.

Some have dropped a few places - part time traders insurance had been 1st for the last couple of years but is now 4th, appreciate this isnt a massive drop but can already see the difference in traffic.
The more alarming change is motor trade insurance was around 38th (recovering after a complete web redesign and build in Feb) but now isnt in the top 200 other than a link to a news article which is still outside top 100.

Google June Core update massive drop in visibility and rank
Following Google Core update in June, I noticed that some websites has seen small improvements or stayed on same positions in SERPs, but our website received nearly 60% visibility drop. Now, after two weeks, some keywords shows "slight" improvement, while majority of keywords still sits on quite low places in searches. Even others big brands got hit after update, but some competitors didn't and overtook our positions. Anyone else noticed any patterns after update and can share some thoughts? Thank you.

Backlinks to internal pages help website to rank better or vice versa?
Hi Moz community, We have our backlinks mostly pointed to our homepage. We are trying to rank better and not having minimum number of backlinks to our internal pages is one of the things I worry about. Backlinks to homepage alone help in ranking internal pages or backlinks to internal pages help in ranking homepage? Or both required? Thanks

Primary keyword in every page title of website
Hi all, We can see many website page titles are filled with "brand name & primary keyword" at suffix. Just wondering how much this gonna help. Or can we remove "primary keyword" from other non-relevant pages and limit the same to important pages to rank well? Thanks

Too many wordpress redirects impact Rankings?
Our website cms is WordPress. We have recently changed the URL pattern of our blog pages which resulted in hundreds of crawl errors in Google search console. Even though we don't have any broken links; old pages have been reported at Google. We are trying to redirect the old URLs to new which will be handled by auto redirects or manual redirects. Will so many redirects impact on website? I don't mean about internal redirects. I mean about redirects made for the cause of reclaiming non existing pages referred from external sites

Would having links on wikipedia help search engine rankings?
I am wondering that having a listing on Wikipedia would help search engine rankings in general? I know all of the Wikipedia links are no-follow links but I think it'd still help to rank higher on search engines. What are your thoughts?

How on earth is a site with ONE LINK ranking so well for a competitive keyword?
Ok, so I'm sure you get the gist of what I'm asking about in my question. The query is 'diy kitchens' in Google UK and the website is kitchens4diy[dot]com - which is ranking in third from my viewing. The thing is, the site has just ONE BACKLINK and has done for a good while. Yet, it's ranking really well. What gives?

If you rank first organically for a keyword, will you rank first for variations?
Hi everyone, Hoping that someone will be able to answer this question for us. If we rank first organically for a keyword, are we safe to assume that we'll rank first (or close to it) for variations of that keyword as well? E.g. If we rank first easily for "Hamilton Island", can we safely assume that we will rank well organically for close variations of that keyword such as "Hamilton Islands", "Hamiltonisland", "Hamilton Island Hotel" due to the fact that "Hamilton Island" is in those keywords? We're deciding which keywords to monitor in SEOmoz and we don't want to waste keywords on very similar terms if we don't have to. Really appreciate any responses! Cheers.
