Big shift in local results with Penguin 2.0?
-
Is anyone else seeing a big shift in local results since Penguin 2.0. I am logged out of Google, all personalisation switched off but my results are being personalised to my location for all results, not just Google+ Local results? I'm pretty sure penguin is bigger than 2.3% of queries or whatever was reported..

I'm seeing a lot more localized results. I think it's gone way overboard. I can't even fathom someone wanting local results for some of these search terms.
Here is an article detailing local results for some pretty broad search terms. http://www.webpagefx.com/blog/search-engine-optimization/penguin-2-0-update-google-blending-local-results-with-organic/

I'm also seeing a big shift in local results since Penguin 2.0.
I was doing some late night PPC work when I saw Twitter blow up with news of Pengin 2.0's launch. I did some quick checks with Google's Adwords Preview Diagnostic tool and found there were substantial changes in our organic rankings for national keywords in different geographic locations. Some made me smile, while others made me cringe!

Karen,
I see the same but only if I am using a mobile device like an iphone or ipad. You can try that and see if that hold true.

I probably should have phrased my question a bit better, I am using national keywords but seeing local websites but outside of Google+ Local listings. I am also seeing Google+ data being used for local results which I hadn't noticed before. Previously I probably didn't rank in the top 50 for the keyword 'SEO' and now I'm number 5 based on my Google+ page.

I have seen a shift in National results and seeing some losses and recovery from it.
I have just done some checking based on seeing your post across a few localised keywords and see that some have dropped out of the top 100, others have made a healthy jump and even some that have stayed as they are ??
Go figure with Google

Results clustered in blue below the main result
There are multiple results that appear in blue below the main result for a query from a particular domain. For example, if I search 'mobile phones online' on google.co.uk, the result field from www.dialaphone.co.uk shows me multiple results clustered in blue - 'HTC One Silver', 'Samsung', 'iPhone5S', 'Free Gifts'. I am trying to understand what these are, and why these show up. Ideally, I would like the results for my domain to show up in a similar fashion, and am wondering if there is something special that I would need to do in this regard. Thanks

Page Title in Local SEO Title Tags?
Hi All, Still working on my title tag usage for local SEO, and I was hoping for some more feedback. My question is this: In Local SEO titles, I'm using location + keyword combinations, unique on each page. However, since each page has a specific title for the client, I figure I should be placing that at the front. My thought here was that this helps with the overall usability to the reader of the website. Ex. Contact Us page for Pizza shop Contact Us | Springfield IN Gourmet Pizza | Moe's Italian Pizza Anyone have thoughts on this one? Thank you!

Penguin what should I do?
I was checking my traffic history with SEM rush & I noticed that I took a big hit in traffic in the Spring of this year. I have lost a lot of traffic but rankings are still the same. Could it be Penguin, what should I do? www.photosbykristopher.com

Seeking a Google Penalty / Panda & Penguin recovery expert
Hi folks, I've been dealing with an online travel agency who came to me looking for content marketing services. One look at their analytics & GWT was all I needed to see they have some serious site cleanup to do before they can start spending money on our services. Their search traffic floored with the first Panda update back in Feb 2011, and they've gone through all sorts of turbulence with the Penguin updates too. There are no messages in GWT, but I suspect their previous SEO guy might have deleted them to cover his tracks. I did a quick look at their link profile and there's all kinds of junk in there, they have dupe content all over the place and the whole thing needs cleaning up. In other words, it's a mess. I'd like to win some business from them, but first they need to talk to a Panda/Penguin recovery specialist. If you're interested, drop me a private message and I'll put you in touch with them. Thanks, Matt.

Local SEO - Rich content and list of towns enough?
I'm working on creating pages to target local SEO. I've created pages for example 'wedding band london' with useful content and optimised them with title tags, alt tags etc and will continue to do so for major cities and queries where there are significant search volume. However, I also want to pickup longtail local search queries such as 'wedding band camden' etc... Will adding a list of towns somewhere on the page for each city or county help drive traffic to the site from such queries? Is so what's the best way to structure the page?

IPAD AND IPHONE RESULTS
I noticed that the google search results on ipad and iphone have completely different than the searches done by computers. I have sites that rank well on desktops, are usually read in ipad and iphone but would not dream of appearing in their searches. Someone has already done some study on this subject? Know what the parameters and differences in rank in mobiles?
