Duplicate Page Title for a Large Listing Website
-
My company has a popular website that has over 4,000 crawl errors showing in Moz, most of them coming up as Duplicate Page Title. These duplicate page titles are coming from pages with the title being the keyword, then location, such as:
"main keyword" North Carolina
"main keyword" Texas... and so forth. These pages are ranked and get a lot of traffic. I was wondering what the best solution is for resolving these types of crawl errors without it effecting our rankings.
Thanks!

Thanks, everyone, for the responses. I downloaded the crawl error CSV and sorted it by duplicate title... there a lot of cities without states attached to them, so that's where all the thousands of duplicate titles are coming from and we're taking care of that fast!
Thanks!

I'd recommend you use a crawler like Screaming Frog and find out what the issue is. Do you see the duplicate titles or descriptions issue in your Google Webmaster Console ? Check under Optimization > HTML Improvements to see what Google is reporting.

As Takeshi said, you shouldn't be getting a duplicate title error if each location in the title is different. Definitely should check Google Webmaster Tools as he said. I suspect it may be a canonical problem, or www vs non-www duplicate content issue. Or perhaps an http and https issue. Without knowing your site details, that would be something to check.

If you are appending the city name to the keyword, then it's not a duplicate title. There must be other pages somewhere on your site that are generating the duplicate titles. If you are using Google Webmaster Tools, it will show you all the duplicate titles on your site as well as which pages are using the same title.

Problem of possible duplicate title tag and description. Help me!
Hi everybody, I'm optimizing this huge website that has a lot of identical categories for differente locations. I'm trying to find a smart way to write title and description for these categories, changing the location as a variable on the title and description phrase. Here some examples: Title: Attractions in [CITY]. Sightseeings, monuments and museums in [CITY]. Description: Find travel ideas and suggestions for [CITY]. On [NAME OF THE WEBSITE] you can find a lot of attractions, monuments and sightseeing off the beaten path in [CITY]. Changing only the name of the CITY on these Titles and Descriptions, am I running the risk of duplicate title and description? Thanks in advance for your help!

How To Get Rid Of Duplicate Title Tages
Hey everyone, I have a couple of pages that have duplicate title tags, and that's because I have couple of pages that are pretty much the same. I took the lower ranking of the two pages and deleted it. Is that all I have to do? Or do I need to setup a redirect or anything else? Thanks, Ruben

Duplicate Post Titles in WordPress with
Hi, First off, this is a WordPress specific question. we migrated a site into WordPress, with hundreds of long articles that are split into 3 or 4 pages each. Each of these articles was entered as an individual post, split into different pages using the tag. We're using the yoast seo plugin. The problem then is that each of the pages gets the same title and meta description. Has anyone a good solution to differentiate the pages? Thanks,

Best way to manage SEO for a massive events listing website.
I run a website that tracks entertainment for the entire state of South Dakota. While I've made some fantastic strides in gaining traffic, I feel lost on how to manage all those entries in an SEO friendly manner. I have a TON of errors showing on my crawl diagnostics and I just don't know what to do. The nature of the website is such that there are going to be duplications all over the place. I know that I can help some of this by getting my canonical links setup properly (that's coming in my next version of the site's theme), but what else should I do to make those event listings friendly for the SE's?? http://www.entertainsd.com

Duplicate Page Content for sorted archives?
Experienced backend dev, but SEO newbie here 🙂 When SEOmoz crawls my site, I get notified of DPC errors on some list/archive sorted pages (appending ?sort=X to the url). The pages all have rel=canonical to the archive home. Some of the pages are shorter (have only one or two entries). Is there a way to resolve this error? Perhaps add rel=nofollow to the sorting menu? Or perhaps find a method that utilizes a non-link navigation method to sort / switch sorted pages? No issues with duplicate content are showing up on google webmaster tools. Thanks for your help!

Duplicate page content
Hello, My site is being checked for errors by the PRO dashboard thing you get here and some odd duplicate content errors have appeared. Every page has a duplicate because you can see the page and the page/~username so... www.short-hairstyles.com is the same as www.short-hairstyles.com/~wwwshor I don't know if this is a problem or how the crawler found this (i'm sure I have never linked to it). But I'd like to know how to prevent it in case it is a problem if anyone knows please? Ian

Hotel affiliate website - noindex pages with little unique content?
We are well into development of a hotel affiliate website (using Expedia Affiliate Network), and I know there are many challenges to SEO when using an affiliate system - one of the biggest being how to handle duplicate content. Outside of blog posts and static marketing pages, the majority of the textual content is contained in hotel descriptions. We will be creating unique descriptions over time, but we are a small team and this will be a lengthy process. My question for you mozzers, is whether or not it's advisable for ranking purposes to noindex any page with mostly 'stock' content, and only allow Google to index hotel pages with unique descriptions? Thanks for any input!
