Sub domain names will they help with rankings
-
Hi, i have a site where i want to use sub domains to showcase the different areas in the country that we work, and i was thinking of having a couple of domain names with the city names to showcase the work we do in that city.
I would like to know if by having a subdomain name and then linking it back to the main site if this will help me with the rankings for the main site.
look forward to hearing from you

thank you for this. I was looking at sites such as citylocal.co.uk and thebest.co.uk who do this for each city. They are a totally different type of website to our health site but they have a subdomain for each city, so i thought this maybe a way to go but obviously with what you have said, it is not the best approach to take.
many thanks

Hey Tim,
There have been quite a few signals that, outside blogging and similar platforms that offer websites as subdomains, Google generally treats a subdomain and its parent domain as the same entity. This has been actually reinforced last year when they changed how Google treats subdomains inside Webmaster Tools.
I'll also quote Rand Fishkin on an answer he gave on subdomains vs subfolders last year:
"Thus, having a single subdomain (even just domainname.tld with no subdomain extension) with all of your content is absolutely ideal from an SEO perspective. It's also more usable and brandable, too IMO."
Regarding your domain-per-city idea, going on what Rand said, it would make even less sense from an SEO perspective.
To answer your question, linking back from the subdomain to main site will likely not help you with any rankings.
Hope this helps!

Are these links helping
Hi, We have had a few new links for a client and we are hoping that we can get some feedback on whether these have any link juice. We dont want to waste our time with links that dont benefit the website. Subdomain with higher domain authority vs. ccTLD with lower domain authority
Our website is active in many countries and we are considering if it is worth it to switch from ccTLD to subdomains. The reason is that our company.com domain has a domain authority of 65 and some of the ccTLD's like company.fr and company.de etc have a domain authority of 30. From what I have read, moving these to a subdomain structure like fr.company.com and de.company.com will give them all the same domain authority (of 65 vs 30) which is considerably higher. 1. Would a subdomain with domain authority 65 rank better than a ccTLD with authority 30 (considering all else is the same)? 2. When we 301 redirect all ccTLD's to the subdomains, will our domain authority increase (to more than 65) for company.com, given that it can benefit from all redirected links to our ccTLD's? Thanks in advance!

Backlinks vs multiple domains
Hello, Our main website is setup on a .com domain and a .ca is setup as a 301 Permanent redirection to the .com. We just signed up to Majestic and found that we had a bunch of backlink linking to the .ca instead of the .com. My question is, is the SEO juice (for DA) being passed by from the .ca to the .com or I should start contacting those websites to get the backlink changed to .com? Thanks

Website Ranking well in Mobile but not in Desktop
Hello guys, Recently we are experiencing good rankings for our targeted keywords in mobile but in desktop the rankings are not progressing. For example, in Mobile, our main targetted keyword ranks in 7th position but in Desktop we are stuck in 11th position. In desktop the website have been stuck in 11th position for quite some time now, any suggestion will help.

Why should I pay attention to sites that rank well in Bing?
If Google has the most market share, why would I use Bing to find backlinks. This question relates to Raven Tools using backlinks found on Bing for their Domain Research tool? Wouldn't that make their tool inferior to one that uses Google? Thanks, Sam

Target keyword appears in organization name. Does it Rank?
I want to rank for the keyword "breast cancer" so when someone uses the anchor text "The Breast Cancer Foundation" am I getting a backlink for both The Breast Cancer Foundation AND breast cancer? Does Google break apart the anchor text in any way that would benefit me in this case?

For example, we are doing seo every day right, i like to know, we are submiting every day our websites to strong directories, publishin press releases, writing comments, writing for otherblogs, and all those websites crawl google-daily. How much take the google system to calculate my backlinks and change the ranking position..? Thanks.
