Can't seem to rank for keyword "home care grand rapids" - need some advice
-
I am trying to rank for "home care grand rapids" and am having a really difficult time. My site: http://healthcareassociates.net has better backlinks, keywords and other seo markers than my competitors but I still can't seem to rank.
The keyword and associated keywords (home care grand rapids michigan, home health care grand rapids, etc.) are only 31-33% difficulty and my site/page rank is better than the leading sites. What gives?

Thanks for the lead. I think I may contact her. It looks like they do free consultations to start off with.
I am trying to change the Title tag in the settings of Wordpress and it says, "Home Care Grand Rapids Michigan - Health Care Associates". I don't know why the extra "Home" tag is automatically being put in there or how to remove it.

I don't do local search because all of my sites compete nationally.
If I needed my sites to rank for local search I would hire Miriam Ellis, Moz member and Moz associate (if she is available) to help me get set up properly and begin promotion. I don't think that the cost would be that high and I would have it done quickly, properly and efficiently. This is too important to take the chance of an improper set-up - at least that is my opinion. This could probably be done via gotomypc or other computer sharing - so you can see what is being done.

Hi Mihai,
Thanks so much for the info. Maybe I am using Open Site Explorer wrong. I type in "home care grand rapids" in Google and pull off the top 4 pages and put them in OSE. Then I look at the results and see that my site is 2nd in page authority, 3rd in total links, 1st in total linking root domains, etc. Seems like it is doing well compared to the others.
Also, you say to get good references. For a different fitness site I had I could easily find other bloggers to guest post for but in the home health industry it seems like there aren't any bloggers. How do you get quality back links when there aren't other bloggers?
Thanks again. Very much appreciate it.

Thanks Egol,
I appreciate the recommendations and will definitely make them.
What else would you do for local search? I have secured and verified my Google place page and other business listings and am working on getting reviews for them. Any other ideas?

Hey Lori,
It seems you're on ranking on the second page of results on Google. Except one or two, all your competitors have better metrics including Domain Authority, Linking Root Domains and number of links. You'll just need to keep getting good references and citations, and you'll slowly move up the ladder.
Hope that helps, good luck!

Change title tag from this....
<title>Home - Home Care Grand Rapids Michigan - Health Care Associates</title>
To this....
<title>Home Care in Grand Rapids Michigan - Health Care Associates</title>
I believe that google is seeing the first instance of "Home" and associating that with "Homepage".
================================
THEN.... get your target query "Home Care in Grand Rapids" in the text of your homepage - preferably in the prominent text at the top of the page.
=================================
This will be an improvement but I doubt that it will be enough to fix your problem. I don't think that your links are competitive.
================================
If I owned this website I would put my big effort into local search.

Page Speed or Site Speed which one does Google considered a ranking signal
I've read many threads online which proves that website speed is a ranking factor. There's a friend whose website scores 44 (slow metric score) on Google Pagespeed Insights. Despite that his website is slow, he outranks me on Google search results. It confuses me that I optimized my website for speed, but my competitor's slow site outperforms me. On Six9ja.com, I did amazing work by getting my target score which is 100 (fast metric score) on Google Pagespeed Insights. Coming to my Google search console tool, they have shown that some of my pages have average scores, while some have slow scores. Google search console tool proves me wrong that none of my pages are fast. Then where did the fast metrics went? Could it be because I added three Adsense Javascript code to all my blog posts? If so, that means that Adsense code is slowing website speed performance despite having an async tag. I tested my blog post speed and I understand that my page speed reduced by 48 due to the 3 Adsense javascript codes added to it. I got 62 (Average metric score). Now, my site speed is=100, then my page speed=62 Does this mean that Google considers page speed rather than site speed as a ranking factor? Need REGEX help
Hi Mozzers, I have multiple filters in one of the GA accounts I manage. I just created new pages that have URLs containing the keyword "spring" (location in texas) and wanted to filter out spring in the GA Spring profile(screenshot) . My issue is it will filter all the URLs containing the kw spring and the website has multiple blog post containing the same kw (spring). So what I need is a Regex formula so I can make sure I track only the Spring tx traffic and not the blog posts. Thanks for letting me know how can I do that! xejc38l.png

Rankings UP, rankings DOWN - why?
Last week, I had 14 keywords go up and less than 5 go down. I was so thrilled! Except this week, I had 10 go up and 14 go down! How can I figure out what is going on? I am up and down 30+ spots with Google. I'd really like to stay up. My site is pretty new, just a few months. I am still fiddling around with settings trying to follow all the advice I read. (robot meta tags, title tag) I didn't change any content in the last week. Does SEOmoz analyze the ranking data?

Question on correctly using rel="canonical
OK I have a question for the community here. All links below are just used as examples and no relationship or real campaigns are being used with any websites named below. Lets say that my domain is abc.com/whiskey/jack-daniels-whiskey/Gentleman-Jack/ but for Google Analytics tracking purposes I gave another website a tracking link for a banner that is as follows http://abc.com/whiskey/jack-daniels-whiskey/Gentleman-Jack/?utm_source=jackdanials&utm_medium=banner&utm_content=Gentleman-Jack&utm_campaign=holiday%2Bpromotion Since the original URL to my site is http://abc.com/whiskey/jack-daniels-whiskey/Gentleman-Jack and Google will then spider the other site picking up my tracking link within the banner which also contains my original URL, can it cause issues with duplicate content and if so what is the best way to use rel="canonical in this case or would you handle this issue in a different way? Thanks in advance for all your help.

How Can I Record .zip Traffic in Google Analytics
The company I am with shows traffic coming in to .zip files in Google Analytics. The traffic being recorded stopped a while back, but I know people are still downloading/visiting these .zip ULRs. I'm not sure how they were recording/tracking the .zip URLs (in Analytics) before, but I'd like to track them once again. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks
