14,000 blog comment spam links placed on one domain!!
-
Trying to clear up a manual link penalty a client has received and I have found the client's site has been blog commenting 14,000 times on just one domain!! I need to do a reconsideration request and show Google that I have cleaned up the mess (the client has 50k backlinks, of which I am not happy with about 75% so far!!) but I cannot expect the website in question to go through 14k pages.
What would people advise here. Would you state the sheer number of links on this site in the reconsideration request and use the disavow tool? Doesn't this suggest that I have been lazy and not put the effort into to clearing things up up

I understand your concern, but if you don't think that contacting the site to have the links removed is a viable option, then disavow really is your only recourse. The only way to find out if Google will accept that as enough is to try it and see. I wouldn't obsess over this one domain, but when you file for reconsideration, it will be important to show progress in other areas. In other words, maybe you can't remove these 14K links (and will just disavow the domain), but make sure you remove some other, bad links, and show an effort somewhere.
Beyond cooperation from the webmaster, your only other recourse is legal, and that's just not going to be worth the time, money, and grief, in 99% of cases. Plus, if a past SEO company did this, you don't even have much legal recourse - the 3rd-party site didn't do anything wrong.

John,
Sorry, I think I may have worded the question poorly. The 14,000 spam links are on an external site, pointing to my client's. The client used an seo company a while back and their seo strategy seemed to involve running senuke and Xrumer. With the senuke articles they are fairly easy to get rid of, emailing a site owner and asking them to remove the link from one article isn't too much trouble.
Emailing a website and asking them to remove blog comment spam placed on 14,000 pages of just one site could be more trouble. I cannot expect them to do this so hopefully google will allow me to disavow the whole domain and not expect this to be manually cleaned up

I believe you will have more success with Google if you do 1. disavow, and 2. demonstrate that you will not just clean up the spam links placed in your clients site, but also 3. take some steps to keep the problem from recurring by implementing better captcha, etc... Rather than just cleaning up after the issue, taking proactive steps to avoid the recurrence of the issue shows you to be a better Webmaster to Google

Thanks, will check the site out. The links are very clearly blot comment spam. While I cannot give the name of my client here, one sample url from the site should show what I mean. I have broken the link on purpose so it's not active

The problem I have is that this is clearly a junk link and the penalty we got from Google says
Google has detected a pattern of artificial or unnatural links pointing to your site. Buying links or participating in link schemes in order to manipulate PageRank are violations of Google's Webmaster Guidelines.
As a result, Google has applied a manual spam action to myclient.co.uk/. There may be other actions on your site or parts of your site. With this in mind i am trying to manually remove as many links as possible. I tried a previous reconsideration and a disavow but no joy with that. I hope they will accept my explanation on this domain

You can try something like this: http://www.removeem.com/
I believe, it does not matter how many links you have from one website pointing to you but, links from many low quality websites is something to look out for while doing link profile audit.
Best,
Devanur Rafi.

Back link from site with DA of 72 to a website domain. Clicking on the link redirects to our website not the attended one.
Hi,
Link Building | | JIMBO16
I've ran a back link check and discovered a good back link to a site which then gets redirected back to my company's website. I have a feeling that an old SEO agency has purchased a small website which has a decent link back from a relevant organisation with a high Domain authority and then redirects the domain to our website to get the link juice. What are your thought on this? Is this really bad practise and possibly damaging? Thanks, Jim0 -
Page Authority or Domain Auothority? Which one is more importan when having an external link pointing to your page?
Im about to make a deal with another site. We are going to exchange some links from some blog posts. In order to make a fair deal, I assessed some metrics for our posts. Basically, this site have better Domain Authority than my site (30 vs 25), but the page authority of their blog post in which they want to insert their links pointing to my site is 1 for each of them. On the other hand, the page authority of my blog posts they are interested in is 13. My dilema is about being resonable to set a good deal for both of us. So, my question is, which one matters the most when it comes to external links? page authority or domain authority? My intuition is that I’m in a better position than my counterpart. Thanks.

Are the following considered bad links for Link Building.
I've been doing a lot of research lately on link building & I've read a lot about having a diverse amount of links. Social links, Blog links, comment links, footer links, No follow links, Directory links as well as links with Anchor text URL match, brand match, partial brand match, non-descriptive, and with keywords. But there is a lot of talk of removing those links that look like a site that's built just for link building purposes.... but Directories are basically built for link building are they not? I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if they feel links from the following directories would be bad links. (Non-Paid) http://www.yoganza.com http://www.wkool.com http://www.wee-directory.com http://www.voicelet.com www.hotfrog.ca http://www.webdirectorieslist.com http://multiplelistingboard.com http://mozdirectory.net http://freedirectorypr.info Industry specific below: http://bestautolinks .com http://automotivedome.com http://automobilebuzz.com http://craigsautolinks.com Thanks so much for the help!

Using a temp redirect or a link to another domain.
Helloooooooo (hey, we're in SEO...surely we need some sound effects as told in dramatic word elongation?) //First - background. I work on a site that does pretty well with search visibility naturally (by 'naturally', I mean it didn't need a lot of optimisation due to the relationships it has with its link network). I work on a site that sells a particular product - green widgets will do - as part of its verticals. Traffic to this section is great, and tends to convert rather well. These green widgets, however, are also part of another site that's part of the client I work for. The larger company was interested to understand what would happen to their conversions if these green widget visits were sent to them instead of staying on-site (namely, that's because they turn a bigger profit over there). So they set up a link on the page on my site to a landing page on theirs. Sure enough, conversions stayed the same on their site, and showed there may be value in keeping that flow active. //Second - question. I see a few options which mainly revolve around not changing anything, but the bigger part of company wants to see that change. My question is this: long term, should I keep the green widgets section of my site there, and use a link that goes to green widgets on the other site, or should I 302 it until they decide on what they want to do with the relationship between the sites? I know...a bit convoluted, but I'd love to get some ideas on what others have experienced in these situations, and what kinds of outcomes can help both sites remain strong. Thanks a ton, guys.

Competiton Creating Links from high ranking blogs through comments?
So I have been noticing that a lot of my competition is leaving a lot of non sense comments on high ranking blogs. What they are doing is either A. Linking the username they are using back to the page they want to link or B. Within their comment on that blog leaving their URL in the text or end of comment. Question is does this even work to get links back to your page? Is this that even ethical SEO? Might be a dumb questions but how am i suppose to fight this when its already hard enough to come up with unique content for a e commerce site and then i have to battle my competition doing this?

Is there way to identify all back links throughout a site or do I have to check one site page at a time? Thanks!
Sorry if it is obvious, but I can't seem to figure it out. I'd like to be able to run a report that will list all of the back links on every page of my site.
