Can you use an advance segment as a metric or dimension for another advance segment in GA?
-
I have 3 advanced segments set up:
Branded keywords
Non-branded keywords (all)
irrelevant non-branded keywords.
irrelevant non-branded keywords are keywords where the visitor is not ready to purchase. for example keywords including terms such as "ideas" or "how to".. these have generated 0 conversions for us, and I want to track these separately from keywords that have a chance in converting, since the conversion rate between the two groups vary a lot.
for the advanced segment "branded" - i listed a listed of keywords pertaining to the company name - using includes, Matching regexp and | (pipe) between keywords
for advanced segment "non-branded keywords" - i took the same list and excluded matching regexp | between keywords.
**for advanced segments "irrelevant keywords" ** - i took one word as the keyword and used includes, contains, and the keywords.. using OR statement between keywords. pipe doesn't seem to work with the "contains", and only seems to work with "matching regexp".
**What i want to do is excluded all items from "Irrelevant keywords" in advanced segment "Non-branded keywords". but i can't seem to exclude based on another custom segment. **nor can I list - [X statement OR (statement y OR statement Z OR statement AB)]
any thoughts on handling this logic?
-
I couldn't get it to work.. but I did realize that all the irrelevant traffic was going to the same landing page, so i filtered out that landing page (the landing page doesn't product conversions either) instead of the keywords.
-
Just be careful to keep clicking "Add 'AND' statement". The "Add 'OR' statement" link always sits above it. You can add multiple AND statements to an advanced segment.
-
tried using AND instead of OR. .turns it in to A AND B OR (C OR D OR E)
instead of A AND ( B OR C OR D OR E)
-
I may be missing something in what you're saying... but you do see you can do "AND" statements in the advanced segment? See the screenshot attached... in the lower left there is where you click to add an "AND". So you can do include keyword matching RegExp AND exclude keyword matching RegExp? Does that not work for you?
If not, if you know someone good at RegExp, you could build one RegExp to do all of what you're asking.
-
Thanks John,
that seems to be my problem though. I can't seem to combine non-branded & irrelevant keywords into one segment.
I can't use match regexp since they are mostly longtails and there are literally hundreds of irrelevant keywords. so i used "contains", but then I can't pipe (|),, so i have about 5 or so "contains" conditions for irrelevant. i tried to set it up as (exclude matching regexp branded)OR (contains a OR exclude contains B OR exclude contains c OR exclude contains d or contains E) - but it doesn't seem to allow it. it ends up being exclude match regexp branded OR contains a OR exclude contains B OR exclude contains c OR exclude contains d or contains E
-
I think you might need to set up more advanced segments to do this. Create a new one for non-branded keywords excluding irrelevant keywords, set it up to use the conditions from your non-branded keywords segment, and use the conditions from the irrelevant keywords segment, but flip the "include/exclude" for each one, and you should be all set.

Connect AMP to the same website GA property or not
Hi, Asking this on behalf of a client:"I know Google recommends setting up a separate GA property for AMP which they note in a few places:https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/amp-analytics/https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6343176?hl=en

From what we can tell this is because the tracking for AMP will measure things differently than the current analytics.js library. I also think it's related to the GA cookie and how it's set differently for AMP pages. But won't this cause drop-off in user journey information? For example, if a user views an AMP blog article but then clicks to our site from a link within the article. I think we would then track this as two separate users and the pages/visit would be off. I found this article which explains a tech way to connect AMP to the same website GA property but it seems a little too much of a work-around:https://www.simoahava.com/analytics/google-analytics-client-id-amp-pages/ Do you think we should just do what Google recommends and set up AMP as a separate property in GA?" --> Does anyone know if there could be any issues with this workaround?Thanks,0 -
Can assumptions be made for (not provided)?
With the (not provided) numbers growing to the inevitable 100%, can we make any assumptions about what the (not provided) visits includes without sifting through 5 software programs, Moz analytics, Google Analytics, Webmasters Tool, etc? It seems like a TON of time and work to "try" and get (not provided) data/keywords from all the articles and heads of the industries I've been reading. That amount of time and work are just not viable for a smaller SEO or single SEO working with smaller budgets, so my question, can we make an estimated guess based on visits for local businesses that most are branded keywords bringing traffic? Or am I way off here? Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts or how you handle (not provided) with your clients.

How can we view traffic from specific Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Reddit accounts in Google Analytics?
Dear Moz Community, This is a Google Analytics question. Using Google Analytics, we're trying to identify trends of visitors on a website from specific social media accounts, i.e: twitter.com/account-x facebook.com/account-x youtube.com/account-x reddit.com/r/account-x Ideally, we would like to be able to see the success rate for specific posts on these social media accounts, and how users engaged on the website after arriving from clicking a link on one of these accounts. Is this drill-down feature currently possible in Google Analytics? Many thanks for helping!

Can't seem to rank for keyword "home care grand rapids" - need some advice
I am trying to rank for "home care grand rapids" and am having a really difficult time. My site: http://healthcareassociates.net has better backlinks, keywords and other seo markers than my competitors but I still can't seem to rank. The keyword and associated keywords (home care grand rapids michigan, home health care grand rapids, etc.) are only 31-33% difficulty and my site/page rank is better than the leading sites. What gives? Todd

Confirmation page gets hit multiple times by some users. How I can I segment out unique visits?
Hi All, I'm web marketing manager at http://www.evenues.com which is like an AirBnB for meeting space. When calculating the number of bookings for our meeting spaces, I've set up a goal in analytics with the confirmation page as the goal URL. The problem is, it seems that some users are looking at the same confirmation page several times. We have unique URLs for each confirmation page, but some users seem to be visiting these unique pages more than 2 to 5 times. This skews our numbers a bit. This makes things a bit problematic when it comes to segmenting visitors. is there anything we can so that each unique URL visited only counts once? Thanks, Kenji

How to see traffic for specific keywords in GA
Hell guys, What i want to achieve is to generate a list of specific keywords showing traffic for a certain periode of time. I also want so be able to compare this time period with historical data. I want a list as shown in: Traffic sources -> sources -> search -> organic. This shows a list of keywords generating traffic out of the organic search results. When you use a filter you can only use one word so it seems. I just want to create that list but with the specific keywords i choose to display. I tried advanced reports and advanced segments but that doesn't really give me what i want. The idea behind this whole thing is that i want to give my client an overview of the traffic received on the words we are optimizing for. this traffic has to be compared to the previous month so they can see clearly if there were changes. Thx !
