Moz metrics are better than top10 competitors but still no progress
-
Hi Moz friends,
So once in a while I encounter a challenge that I can't figure out so I thought maybe you can help.I would like to enter the top10 in Google.nl for a specific keyword and Moz's OSE is telling me all my metrics are better than most of my competitors. Als my on-page grade is on level (A) but I miss something .. somewhere.
The awkward thing is the competition level is very easy ..
Hope you guys can help, Cheers, Mark

Mark - I agree with Dennis. You have some competitive metrics but best case scenario you are mid to bottom of page one currently, in terms of expectations.
-
Hi Dennis,
Thxz for the feedback, which program do you use btw to check this?
-
Hi Mark,
Im not talking about DA and PA. Anyway, I just took a quick look and didnt really have to look long. At the site's current state, could go up to #7 short term, and #1 is definitely possible. All im saying is that right now, most of them are still ahead. Like I said, I didnt do any onpage audits, nor analyse the existing links.
-
Hi Dennis,
That's not correct as I beat half of the top10 with page authority AND domain authority. My page also have more links. Only at domain level I do not have more links (yet).
-
Hi Mark
Since you said your on-page and technical details are already good, i took a look at the competitors, sadly, it looks like they are winning with domain trust/power
They just have a lot more even if you have more links to the actual page, they have more power on their domain, sorta like amazon.
I dont doubt that you will get there though as an optimised page with links will usually beat out authority sites that has little seo done to their inner pages
Keep up the work, youll get there.

Hi Dennis,
First of all, thanks for the quick response! It's not locally targetting the local results (7pack) but I nationwide in the Netherlands (although we are not that wide ..).
Page that needs to rank in Google.nl is http://www.wvanderniet.nl/Hengelsportartikelen/Karper/Beetmelders for the keyword "beetmelders"
Something in the site ..?
-
Hmm, usually, it's a map or something big that pushes worthy sites down. Im assuming you are at Page 2 ATM. I will ignore the fact of links for the mean time.
Im also assuming that you are working on a local business? So do you have local citations built and are the competing sites mostly inner pages of strong domains? Is your domain new? Or newly redesigned?

Should I better noindex 'scripted' files in our portfolio?
Hello Moz community, As a means of a portfolio, we upload these PowerPoint exports – which are converted into HTML5 to maintain interactivity and animations. Works pretty nicely! We link to these exported files from our products pages. (We are a presentation design company, so they're pretty relevant). For example: https://www.bentopresentaties.nl/wp-content/portfolio/ecar/index.html However, they keep coming up in the Crawl warnings, as the exported HTML-file doesn't contain text (just code), so we get errors in: thin content no H1 missing meta description missing canonical tag I could manually add the last two, but the first warnings are just unsolvable. Therefore I figured we probably better noindex all these files… They appear to don't contain any searchable content and even then; the content of our clients work is not relevant for our search terms etc. They're mere examples, just in the form of HTML files. Am I missing something or should I better noindex these/such files? (And if so: is there a way to include a whole directory to noindex automatically, so I don't have to manually 'fix' all the HTML exports with a noindex tag in the future? I read that using disallow in robots.txt wouldn't work, as we will still link to these files as portfolio examples).

Is single H1 tag still best practice?
Hi Guys, Is having a single h1 tag still best practice for SEO? Guessing multiple h1 tags dilute the value of the tag and keywords within the tag. Thoughts? Cheers.

Hello All, My ecommerce site gone in penalty more than 3 years before and within 3 months I got message from google penalty removed. Since then till date my organic ranking is very worst. In this 3 years I improved my site onpage very great. If I compare my site with all other competitors who are ranking in top 10 then my onpage that includes all schema, reviews, sitemap, header tags, meta's etc, social media, site structure, most imp speed, google page speed insight score, pingdom, w3c errors, alexa rank, global rank, UI, offers, design, content, code to text raito, engagement rate, page views, time on site etc all my sites always good compare to competitors. They also have few backlinks I do have few backlinks only. I am doing very high google adwords and my conversion rate is very very good. But do you think because I am paying since last 3 year high to google because of that google have some setting or strategy that those who perform well in adwords so not to bring up in organic? Is it possible I can talk with google on this? If yes then what will be the medium of conversation? Pls give some valuable inputs I am performing very much in paid so user end site is very very well. Thanks!

Why is this competitor ranking so high?
I have a competitor who consistently rans #1 or close in SERPS for keyword phrase "uncontested divorce lawyerser. in analyzing his site he doesn't seem to have anywhere near the links, domain authority or page authority that would justify this preeminence Is this a black hat situation or what? His site is www.uncontesteddivorceny.comhx thx Paul

Back in August of 2013 Google created a form that allowed people to submit small websites that "should be ranking better in Google". Why is "Noindex" better than a "Canonical" for Pagination?
"Noindex" is a suggested pagination technique here: http://searchengineland.com/the-latest-greatest-on-seo-pagination-114284, and everyone seems to agree that you shouldn't canonicalize all pages in a series to the first page, but I'd love if someone can explain why "noindex" is better than a canonical?

Page Titles... question about which is better
Hi, I'm kind of a newbie and I'm working on an e commerce website. I would love to be able to optimize the site so that the keyword "dog boutique" was ranking for the homepage. B/C a lot of the pages call from php to create the meta data, most of generated page titles look like "Product Name, Category - Moondoggie Dog Boutique" My question is would it be more helpful to just have Moondoggie Dog Boutique on the page title on the page I would like to rank for "dog boutique" and use Moondoggie Inc. or Just Moondoggie in it's place on all of the other pages? Would this help or make it worse? Thanks! KristyO If you would like to see hte site: http://www.moondoggieinc.com

Is User Agent Detection still a valid method for blocking certain URL parameters from the Search Engines?
I'm concerned with the cloaking issue. Has anyone successfully implemented user agent detection to provide the Search engines with "clean" URLs?
