How can i find the top keywords generating traffic, Both paid and organic, for my competitors? Are there specific tools out there I can use if I dont have access to their Google Analytics account?

Hi Rich,
Did these answers help you, or are you still looking for some more insight?

I love SEMRush for this. Give it a keyword and it'll show you the top organic and paid listings. Give it a URL and it'll give you organic and paid keywords for that URL.
SEMRush (and all tools) can only give an estimate as to the amount of traffic. These tools base these calculations by looking at the position of the competitor in the SERP, the search volume per month of that keyword, and the likelihood of someone clicking on that result.
If you know that x% of people click on the top organic result and you know how many people are searching per month for that keyword, then you can get a pretty good idea of what the traffic is going to be like for that URL.
As for which keywords are converting... you'll need Google Adwords / Analytics for that. You could ask your competitors for access which would be funny, but obviously refused!
But keep in mind, if you trying to find the "top" keywords, tools like SEMRush only report the keywords that are in use / working for a given competitor. It doesn't mean there aren't other keywords you should look into - keywords that your competitors aren't ranking for at all. In fact, that's the goal... find the keywords your competitors don't know about (and therefore tools like SEMRush don't know about).

Google Keywords Tools can give you an idea for what keywords are driving traffic.
As far as your competitors, check out Spyfu.
These are fairly 'basic' and easy to use. There are more advanced/expensive routes, but I am sure these would give you a good start/good results.

Our main competitor is/was doing some Black Hat tactics....
Our main competitor Royal Cases, a custom case manufacturer and designer, has some really shady links and some dummy domains with duplicate content, yet they are ranking #1 organically for some of the industry's top search terms. Let me give you some examples. First off, they have multiple dummy domains with the same exact same content as their main website. One of these is casescasescases.net. They have a couple more that are just as bad. Secondly, their link profile is so shockingly black hat, I can't figure out why/how they haven't been deindexed or hit with a filter. I'll give you some examples. I ran a link analysis through Moz, and found multiple links from many websites that have absolutely NOTHING to do with custom cases. Here are a few of the linking domains: http://moneysourceonline.com/ ; www.lemons2lemonade.com/ ; http://jenaesboutique.com/ ; These are just a few. Now here is what I don't understand, when I go to explore the individual inbound links, I can't find the links to Royal anywhere on the pages. They have dozens from different pages on these obviously completely unrelated websites, but when you go to those pages, the links themselves are nowhere to be found. Yet, they are showing up as inbound links....I am lost. Does anyone have any idea what in the world is going on here? Is there a way to report this to Google? Normally I wouldn't resort to this sort of "tattle-tailing" but this company has a history of scheming and just horrendous business practices, and they recently had to pay a large settlement for pirating software for their company.

Strategies for discovering competitors and selecting key words
Hey Moz community! What are some tools to use to find out who my competitors are and which keywords they are ranking for? Next, once I have found out this information, is it best that I try to outrank my competitors for thee same keywords? Or should I be going for key words that are more specific? What strategy should I use when selecting my key words...? Any help or advice is MUCH appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Help to Increase Traffic for On-line Pet Store
Hi Guys, Recently opened a Pet Supply Business www.valuepetsupplies.co.uk and we have launched our web site just last week. We currently have around 1800 products but have literally 1,000'a more to be added but as with everything in life it all takes time and effort. We have the shop sitting on the Presta-Shop e-commerce platform and it is connected with FB (1350fans), Twiter, Pinterest and a blog. Currently we have circa 600 visitors each month but we obviously need far more than that to compete in this marketplace. I am going to try and use some of the tools on this site to see what insights I can ascertain. So I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of what do get done next, I have some ideas but I thought I would put this on the table to see what some of the real pro's suggestions would be. Criticism also is welcomed. Thanks for looking guys could do with all the help I can get right now. SnoopD

Need advice interpreting these changes in my search traffic
I've recently made a few changes to my site based on some advice from the seomoz tool. I've noticed some changes in the traffic data (see attached image) which I can't completely explain. First, the good news is that total organic search visits is up 2%. I assume this is the most important metric and I'm obviously happy with total increase in organic search. At the same time the number of number of URL's entered on search is down 1%. I think this can be explained by the fact that I removed some duplicate pages (like archives that had the same content as the blog post pages, etc.) The part that I don't quite understand is that total number of non paid keywords sending search is down 3%. That seems like an unexplained decrease that I can't really account for. Any ideas on how to interpret this? Is it also possible that a single week's results can be misleading about how well your SEO efforts are paying off? 20120711-j4ti8ynwi1hn4rbrsppe167m6.jpg

Website traffic data miles behind
Just logged into one of my profiles to review my traffic data and the last traffic is for 9th Jan. Given it is now 22 this is far far from acceptable. Given the high monthly fee charged by this service why is the traffic data so far behind. If other services (cheaper services) can update their traffic data daily or even weekly why should I continue to use SEOMOZ. The rankings, errors etc are all updated for the 21st of Jan so why not the traffic. Your's An unhappy custimer

Analysing competitors' backlinks?
I am doing some competitor analysis and one thing that I want to know is how many links my competitors have and how many different domains link to their sites. I got some figures on this both from the SEO Moz toolbar and from Majestic SEO. My problem is that the figues are massively different. E.g. SEO Moz says 9657 links from 95 domains, Majestic says 4895 links from 1722 domains. Who do I believe? And where do each of these tools get their data from?
