Using 302 redirect for SEO
-
Hello,
I'm in charge of SEO for an information website on which articles are only accessible if you have a login and password. Most of the natural links we get point to our subscribers' subomain : subscribers.mywebsite.com/article1
If they follow these natural links, visitors who are not logged get redirected (302) to www.mywebsite.com/article1 on which there is an extract of the article and they can request a free test subscription to read the end of the article.
My goal is to optimize SEO for the www.mywebsite.com/article1 page.
Does this page benefit from the links I get to the subscribers.mywebsite.com/article1 page or are theses links lost in terms of SEO?
Thanks for your help,
Sylvain

That's the gist of it, unfortunately. Cyrus posted in this blog entry a Tweet from Duane Forrester of Bing saying over time, they learn that 302 redirects encountered repeatedly are more permanent and begin to treat them like 301 redirects. I would imagine Google does something similar because it makes sense to do, and would improve search results overall, but I have no evidence to back that up.

So, if someone links to this page :
http://abonnes.hospimedia.fr/articles/20131004-plfss-2014-les-federations-de-l-aide-a
The juice will not flow to this page?

Thanks a lot for your answer

I'd recommend not changing these to 301 redirects. 301 redirects are permanent, meaning browsers can (and most will) cache them. Suppose you switch to 301 redirects. If one of your users' sessions ends, and visits subscribers.mywebsite.com/article1, and gets 301 redirected to www.mywebsite.com/article1. They log in, and click the link to subscribers.mywebsite.com/article1. If the browser has cached the redirect, they'll be taken back to www.mywebsite.com/article1! You definitely don't want that to happen.
Some recent experiments have suggested that 302s do pass some link juice (here's one). I'd look up how many links you're actually talking about here linking into subscribers.mywebsite.com.
Rather than doing redirects when users sign in, the best thing from my perspective would be to check to see if the user is signed in, and serve the all the content under the same URL. So all the content would be under www.mywebsite.com, but if they're not logged in, they get the extract of the article, and if they're signed in, they get the full version. That way all of your links would point to the correct page, subscriber or not (and then you could 301 all the subscribers.mywebsite.com links to www.mywebsite.com, since those URLs wouldn't be needed anymore).
Not that I'd recommend cloaking, but you could see if it's Googlebots IP address, and do 301 redirects in that case.
-
Swap the 302s (temporary redirect, no flow of PageRank) with 301s (permanent redirect, normal flow of PageRank). Same functionality. As googlebot won't be logged in, it will get 301 redirected.
-
SE Crawlers are not logged in and will encounter the '302'. So no flow of "link juice" will be passed.

Acquired domains for SEO
hi there, For one of our insurance websites we acquired a domain, this domain is going to be redirected to our domain. After some research we discovered the domain we've bought also includes other domains which 301 redirect to specific 'insurance products'. These domains are also included in the deal. But what is the best technical solution for redirecting these specific redirected product domains? They already redirect to the product pages of the domain we've bought, so after redirect this domain, the sub (product) redirected domains will also link to us. It would be like this: A) www.sub-carinsurancesite.nl (301) -> www.domain-we-bought.com/car-insurance -> www.ourdomain.com/car-insurance

B) www.sub-carinsurancesite.nl (301) -> www.ourdomain.com/car-insurance & www.domain-we-bought.com/car-insurance -> www.ourdomain.com/car-insurance etc0 -
Doubt with geoip redirection
Hi everyone, I managed an international site with subfolders for for the countries (us, uk, fr, ...). The homepage has a geoip redirection to the specific user country. I've checked some old posts like this ones but it's not cleared for me if I should do a 301 or a 302 redirection. https://moz.com/community/q/geoip-redirection-301-or-302 https://moz.com/community/q/geoip-and-redirects I know that the best approach it’s avoid automatic redirections but it's not a possibility for me. So please, can you help me to decide what type of redirection should I use?

Questions about Redirects
Hi, I am trying to make sure that I can determine if a site has a 301 redirect set up to redirect the site from domain.com to www.domain.com and am hoping that you can confirm the following for me, or let me know if I am off track: is http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/ a reliable way to check if a 301 redirect is set up? is Screaming Frog SEO Spider a good tool to use to see if a redirect is in place? if I search for site:www.domain.com and site:domain.com, I should only get results for the site being indexed, not for the site that has the 301 redirect set up, right? For example, if www.domain.com is set up to redirect to domain.com, then I should get no search results for site:www.domain.com and only show indexed pages for domain.com. If I search for site:www.domain.com and site:domain.com and get results for both, then does this mean that the redirect is not set up? if a redirect is set up from www.domain.com to domain.com, should the crawl report should only show one page crawled on www.domain.com? if a crawl report shows same number of pages for www.domain.com as for domain.com, does that mean that redirect is not set up properly? Thanks in advance for your help! Carolina

302 Redirects & WordPress
Hi Mozzers- We started a WordPress blog for one of my clients to help improve the domain authority, increase visits, etc. a few months ago. I ran a crawl report a few days ago and noticed that the /trackback/ pages are getting redirected to the appropriate page using a 302 redirect not a 301 redirect. I've search through the forum looking for other similar questions and found one. The answer suggested that I use the TAC plugin and check for any malicious code. I did this and found nothing. Another response suggested using the Redirection plugin. I haven't tried this yet. Has anyone encountered this and if so, how did you deal with it. Thank you! LHC

Using Blogger.com
I have a client that is currently using blogger.com for their blog. I don't have much experience with this site as I have mostly used Wordpress in the past. Are there any good SEO plugins/tools for this site? Thanks!

SEO LINKS
New to S.E.O. so excuse my naivety. I have made lots of new links some of them paid for e.g. Best of the Web but I don’t see any change in the latest competitive link analysis. Some of the links we have been accepted for just do not show. Also the keywords we are trying to promote the most have disappeared off the radar for over 2 weeks now. I think we have followed the optimization suggestions correctly. Please could you enlighten me. Regards Paul www.curtainpolesemporium.co.uk

Should I 301 redirect my country specific sites, or use them as linking root domains?
I have loveelectronics.co.uk, but I also own 10 other country code specific domains. I am short on links (i'm actually still setting up the website) and wondered that until i have country specific content, should I 301 redirect these websites to the homepage of my main site, or could I use them as links which would mean I have more linking root domains? Sorry if this is a beginner question, but it would be good to know so I can sort this.
