Geotargeting issue
-
Hi,
So ive just starting working on a travel website and noticed that the .com website outranks the com.au in Australian SERPS, even though the .au site has been geotargeted (In GWT) for Australia.I also geotargeted the .com website to Canada (the primary place of business).
Is this advisable? Will this affect rankings?
-
Just because there is a reindex, does not guarantee that the rankings change that quickly. You should watch it and see. One thing to remember, make sure you are using a non personalized search when looking or run the rankings in moz.
I would watch it over a few weeks and see if you see movement.

So a follow up on the .com outranking the .com.au for our company- both the geotargeting parameters have been set .com (Canada) and .au (Australia). However nothing has changed in the rankings. Also checked GWT, both sites have definately been crawled since.
Any advice on what else to do?
-
I would be surprised if it took more than a few days. Given your site has been up and ranked, wont take long to reindex.

Thanks for the response Robert,
Any idea how long it takes for Google to react to the changes?

It is likely the change in GWT to .com being set as CA preference will affect the ranking in AU of the .com. If the .com was not on a CA server it is more likely. Since you want the .com to rank in CA primarily and you have a .com.au site, assuming you have covered your bases with regards to other countries you want to rank in, you are going in the correct direction.

Recovering from Sitemap Issues with Bing
Hi all, I recently took over SEO efforts for a large e-commerce site (I would prefer not to disclose). About a month ago, I began to notice a significant drop in traffic from Bing and uncovered in Bing Webmaster Tools that three different versions of the sitemap were submitted and Bing was crawling all three. I removed the two out of date sitemaps and re-submitted the up to date version. Since then, I have yet to see Bing traffic rebound and the amount of pages indexed by Bing is still dropping daily. During this time there has been no issue with traffic from Google. Currently I have 1.3 million pages indexed by Google while Bing has dropped to 715K (it was at 755K last week and was on par with Google several months ago). I know that no major changes have been made to the site in the past year so I can't point to anything other than the sitemap issue to explain this. If this is indeed the only issue, how long should I expect to wait for Bing to re-index the pages? In the interim I have been manually submitting important pages that aren't currently in the index. Any insights or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

I never found the issue but was able to move the site into a new hosting and restore from a backup and it work. Google found the issue on Jan 27th and they remove all the pages with 404 from the index and I lost most of my top ranking I have since fix the issue and was wondering if google would restore my ranking in such a case? Has anyone had issues with Bazaarvoice and schema.org?
About a year ago we started using Bazaarvoice to get reviews for our products, and it has been great as far as accumulating content, but Google is not taking the schema.org data and displaying it on the SERP. Someone has told me it is because we are offering multiple products, or that our schema.org tags are incorrect but when I compare our code to other travel sites it seems like everyone is doing something different. This is especially annoying since the Google schema markup check says everything is fine. Does anyone have any advice or similar experiences? Thanks.

Disavow Issues
Hi We have a client who was hit by Penguin about 18 months ago. We disavowed all the bad links about 10 months ago however this has not resulted in an uplift in traffic or rankings. The client is asking me whether it would be better to dump the domain and move the website to a fresh domain. Can you provide thoughts / experience on this please? Thanks.

Duplicate Content Issue with
Hello fellow Moz'rs! I'll get straight to the point here - The issue, which is shown in the attached image, is that for every URL ending in /blog/category/name, it has a duplicate page of /blog/category/name/?p=contactus. Also, its worth nothing that the ?p=contact us are not in the SERPs but were crawled by SEOMoz and they are live and duplicate. We are using Pinnacle cart. Is there a way to just stop the crawlers from ?p=contactus or? Thank you all and happy rankings, James

Re-direct issues
Forgive me for the novice question. But I was recently looking at open site explorer and was checking out my site www.visualawards.com , I know we have a re-direct to www.visualawards.com/home.php . After checking both URL's, I found that I have links pointing to both. Is this bad, am I diluting the links? If yes, which one should I point the future ones to, and is there anyway to recover the current links already? Thanks again for your help!!!

Domain Redirect Issues
Hi, I have a domain that is 10 years old, this is the old domain that used to be the website for the company. The company approximately 7 years ago was bought by another and purchased a new domain that is 7 years old. The company did not do a 301 redirect as they were not aware of the SEO implications. They continued building web applications on the old domain while using the new domain for all marketing and for business partner links. They just put in a server level redirect on the folders themselves to point to the new root. I am on Tomcat, I do not have the option of a 301 redirect as the web applications are all hard coded links (non-relative) (hundreds of thousands of dollars to recode) After beginning SEO; Google is seeing them as the same domain, and has replaced all results in Google with the old domain instead of the new one..... My questions is.... Is it better to take the hit and just put a robots.txt to disallow all robots on the old domain Or... Will that hurt my new domain as well since Google is seeing them as the same? Or.... Has Google already made the switch without a redirect to see these as the same and i should just continue on? (even the cache for the new site shows the old domain address) Old Domain= www.floridahealthcares.com New = www.fhcp.com *****Update after writing this I began changing index.htm to all non relative links so all links on the old domain homepage would point to fhcp.com fixing the issue of the entire site being replicated under the old domain. I think this might "Patch" my issue, but i would still love to get the opinion of others Thanks Shane
