Best Way to Seemlessly Use Moz and Google Analytics
-
Hi All,
I have Moz Pro and I am beginning to explore Moz Analytics. I currently use Google Analytics for pretty much everything and I am almost at expert level at using the GA interface so I'm ready to learn a new tool and have a second source of data!
My question is: what's the best way to get the most of Moz Analytics and GA congruently? Off hand I know that Moz's keyword, rank, and link data, including competitive insights, is more comprehensive than GA. But how else can I use Moz and get the most out of the Moz Analytics?
Looking to really dive in and discuss how we can make use of both!
Thanks - Vee

Hi Veronica!
Here's a few things you can do with your Moz Subscription that might be worth checking out:
- Moz Analytics provides crawl data -- We crawl your site and look for issues with how the site is set up that may impact a search engine's ability to crawl your site's content. You can use this to make sure that all the pages on your site can be found and ranked on search engines.
- On-page data -- If you go into GA and look at the keywords already sending your site traffic, you can track all of those in Moz Analytics. The next week, we'll automatically grade each top ranking page for the keywords you added (A means the page's content is really well optimized for the keyword, F means not so much). If you click into a grade report, we provide recommendations on how to better optimize for that keyword.
- Link Data - As you mentioned, we provide information about the highest quality links you're receiving (one of the biggest factors behind where you rank in a search engine), links your competitors are getting, and places where a site mentions your brand name, but doesn't link to you (link opportunities).
- Brand & Mentions - You can use this section of Moz Analytics to track where certain terms are being mentioned throughout the web. This is useful because you can track your own brand so you can get involved in those conversations. You can see who is talking about your competitors / industry and find content outreach opportunities or other places to get involved in the conversation. It may also give you ideas for new content to write.
- Research Tools - By having a paid Moz Subscription, you can also use all of our research tools. Open Site Explorer is great for link research. Rank Tracker and Keyword Difficulty are good supplements to keyword research. Followerwonk provides some really interesting tools for growing your social network size and influence. The Moz Toolbar makes it really easy to do research on the fly while you browse the web.
Let me know which of these areas sounds like it might be of most interest to you and if you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer them! Thanks,

If I'm honest I've not but I assume its pulling the numbers straight from GA and so have no reason to assume there would be deviation.
If you like number crunching you can look into webmaster tools and get some numbers from there too.

Hi Chris - thanks!
I've linked my accounts
Have you compared any numbers from Moz to GA? For example the 'visits from organic search numbers"?
-
You can import some of the GA into your moz pro
Campaign settings > Google analytics
It's not as in-depth but its good for an overall look at things
You can also use Moz to grade some of your pages great to find any errors on site etc. I recommend you take a look through the help guide some good tips in there

Insights about Google penalties?
I signed up for seomoz pro hoping to get some insight as to why my website selftherapy.org has virtually disappeared from google, but all the site reports I've run look fine. Are there any resources that might help here? I suspect that an seo company's low quality link campaign may have hurt me, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know of a method of locating low quality / harmful links?

Best way to analyze keyword difficulty for 10,000+ keywords?
I've done quite a bit of searching, but can't seem to find a time efficient way to accurately analyze keyword difficulty for large sets of keywords. All of the keyword difficulty tools out there that I've tried are either 1) not accurate 2) slow (like seomoz's kw difficulty tool only allows 5 entries at a time). Can anyone recommend any shortcuts / tools / processes to analyze kw difficulty for large sets of keywords?

Sudden decrease in Moz Page rank
Hello, We have a serious issue with 404s and recently saw our Moz Page rank fall from 53 to 47. 1. OSE Inbound links no longer shows any of our Linked In posts, did Linked In stop passing juice? 2. Does SEO Moz reduce your ranking when there's a sudden increase in 404s? 2a. WP Yoast SEO - I accidentally checked the box on this plugin to "Strip the category base (usually /category/) from the category URL" which basically caused all of our blog post categories and Datafeedr categories to disappear. Didn't realize till too much time had passed that I accidentally clicked that box. Datafeedr is a plugin for our estore that parses the data feeds from affiliate vendors and allows you to create a saved search that auto updates old products every 3 days. I had a no index/follow parameter on the category items, but seeing the # of 404s continue to increase, I temporarily removed this parm last week to see if it reduces this now static number of 404s. Google Webmaster tools started showing a ton of soft 404s that kept increasing, while SEO Moz didn't show any of those 404s. I didn't pay much attention to GWT since Google kept saying it won't affect our rankings, and nothing was showing up on SEO Moz. Last week a fraction of those 404s showed up and I am not sure if that's what lowered our Moz rank or what looks like a possible delinking from Linked In and a higher ranking complimentary website directly related to our field itsallaboutyoga. Looking at the Moz graph of "Total Linking Root Domains Over Time" all of our competitors took a similar % hit since between June and the end of July, so I am thinking its more wide based than fat fingered mistake. I fixed # 2, (have to still figure out what to do with most of those 404s, thinking of submitting a request to Google vs 1,000s of 301s) so in doing my review of this sequence of events and using it as a learning experience, where would I assign max destructive value as a percentage? A. Ignoring GWT soft 404s in favor of SEO Moz campaign reports B. No follow from Linked In and related industry site C. Datafeedr, thousands of indexed products through Datafeedr that are no longer available mostly due to WP Yoast SEO fat finger error. I did have the D. WP Yoast SEO, "Strip the category base (usually /category/) from the category URL" E. Global Google algo change Cheers, Michael

Best Practices for having Social Profiles indexed
There has been a lot of talk lately around social profiles potentially improving your brand as well as search. What I'd like to know is the best practices for getting those social profiles crawled and indexed so they actually provide a good link to my site. I'm also wondering what the difference between what Linkscape sees and what Google sees and when I'm looking at Open Site Explorer's rankings on one of those social profiles how can I be sure that Google sees it the same way. I ask this because a lot of these profiles are not well internally linked to. An example is about.me, it's a potentially great link, but it's essentially an island, and even after dropping a couple Twitter links to my profile, Open Site Explorer shows and Page Authority of 1, and it's not even indexed with Google. What I did last night was put a link to my about.me, flickr and wedding wire in my Connect menu drop down on my site to get that crawled hopefully soon. Are there other methods of getting those crawled and indexed so it starts passing some juice?
