What is the recommended way to save Image Files in WP?
-
Hi,
Is there a recommended setting (or even plugin) to use when saving image files on my Wordpress blog?
Which folders etc.Thanks
-
Agreed with everything said here. The default Media uploader for Wordpress is the best to use unless there's something special about what you're trying to do with the images.
As Bradley said, optimizing images is important. http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/ is a popular plugin that will let you do this as you upload images.

You upload images through WordPress' built in Media upload tool. Don't FTP images directly into WordPress as they won't be recorded in the database and you won't get the built-in feature of having several different sizes of the images made (thumb, small, medium, large).
I would also recommend optimizing your images before uploading them. Use a tool like tinypng.org if you are primarily uploading pngs.

Thanks for the answer, I have updated the question to make it clear...

Hi, if by media files you mean audio media files then save them as mp3 format. Depending on what they are you can normally save speech at around 64kpbs whereas with music do for a minimum 128kbps.

How to manage images
We have been using Google+ to load our images straight on to our site, we did this to make sure our site loaded fast. google+ delivers them to website at the size we specify, so even if original is say 4000px x 3000px we can ask for them at 100x100 and they send as resized scale. we dont have to manage sizes just the original images and their tagging If we wanted to improve our SEO opportunities should we be doing this another way? Our images show if you look in the image serp but they dont appear on the main serp. How much of a difference would having the images on our own domain rather than having them on Google+ I am working through the recommended list below, would love to hear guys who are doing well with images and have to manage 1000's of them. There are a number of ways to optimise your images to increase your visibility within Google image search, and the chance of being featured within the main search results (as seen in the 'tablet PC' example): Use a short descriptive piece of text featuring desired keywords within the image alt text attribute.

Save the image using a descriptive file name
Create an Image XML sitemap
Ensure your images directory isn't blocked by robots.txt
Ideally host images on the same domain
And surround the image with related text content to build a stronger page context/association0 -
Eliminate render blocking javascript and css recommendation?
Our site's last Red flag issue is the "eliminate render blocking javascript and css" message. I don't know how to do that, and while I'm not sure if I could spend hours/days cutting and pasting and guessing until I made progress, I'd rather not. Does anyone know of a plugin that will just do this? Or, if not, how much would it cost to get a web developer to do this? Also, if there is not plugin (and it didn't look like there was when I looked) how long do you think this would take someone who knows what they are doing to complete. The site is: www.kempruge.com Thanks for any tips and/or suggestions, Ruben

Whats the best way to remove search indexed pages on magento?
A new client ( aqmp.com.br/ )call me yestarday and she told me since they moved on magento they droped down more than US$ 20.000 in sales revenue ( monthly)... I´ve just checked the webmaster tool and I´ve just discovered the number of crawled pages went from 3.260 to 75.000 since magento started... magento is creating lots of pages with queries like search and filters. Example: http://aqmp.com.br/acessorios/lencos.html http://aqmp.com.br/acessorios/lencos.html?mode=grid http://aqmp.com.br/acessorios/lencos.html?dir=desc&order=name Add a instruction on robots.txt is the best way to remove unnecessary pages of the search engine?

Panda Recovery - What is the best way to shrink your index and make Google aware?
We have been hit significantly with Panda and assume that our large index with some pages holding thin/duplicate content being the reason. We have reduced our index size by 95% and have done significant content development on the remaining 5% pages. For the old, removed pages, we have installed 410 responses (Page does not exist any longer) and made sure that they are removed from the sitempa submitted to Google; however after over a month we still see Google spider returning to the same pages and the webmaster tools shows no indicator that Google is shrinking our index size. Are there more effective and automated ways to make Google aware of a smaller index size in hope of Panda recovery? Potentially using the robots.txt file, GWT URL removal tool etc? Thanks /sp80

.htaccess files
I am working with a clients website which has multiple htaccess files (.htaccess , .htaccess.holiding, and .htaccess.live -all in the same directory) My question is how does a server process these files? All 3 files? Currently the domain has 301 redirect showing for the home page to the mobile site (which is a problem) in one of the files (.htaccess but not others) Has anyone come across this before with regard to SEO problems?

Image and Content Management
My boss has decided that on our new website we are building, that he wants all content and images managed by not allowing copying content and/or saving images. Some of the information and images is proprietary, yet most is available for public viewing, but never the less, he wants it prohibited from copy and/or saving. We would still want to keep the content indexable and use appropriate alt tags etc... I wanted to find out if there is any SEO reason and facts to why this would not be a good idea?Would implementing code to prohibit (or at least make it difficult) to save images and copy content, penalize us?
