Are niche directories still helpful as good links to have to help ranking in the serps or has Google discounted directories? The Niche directories that i would be using are not spammy at all and are quality sources of info.
Thanks mozzers!

If you are looking for directories, this is a good resource:

Where there is good page rank and relevance, a few directory links may not hurt, use with caution.

I am really glad it was helpful, keep on playing.

Awesome, thanks so much for the advice. I did the search on the band and that's exactly the kind of places that i was looking for to list in and am already listed on some of these sites that came up. My band is more pop rock and I'm a lead vocalist and lead guitarist.
Thanks again for input!

Very Good Examples Ron10
The first one I absolutely hate with a passion. (there is no rhyme or reason other than listing something)
The second one I love and think you should. It is more than a directory and that is the point. There is a reason for it to exist.
A friend of mine, Rom Ryan, has a band called Moodafaruka that does quite well on the indie scene. The music is a mix, but likely pigeon holed as alternative. If you do a search on the band (or on the band and add one of their songs like Man Without Hat), then look at all the results, you will have an excellent list of places to use instead of directories and they are exactly where your band should be. (Check out the music as it is really good.) They have done quite well selling their music online and at their venues.
So, what's the genre you prefer? What's your instrument?
Hope this helps,
Robert

I play in a band and here are a couple samples of the directories i was looking at to list my band in:

Ron,
To me the most terrifying word in SEO is directory. OK, slightly kidding. I would be very careful of any directories on a lot of levels. First, when you say niche, I have to ask what niche? Then, is it yet one more that lists 1000's of sites with no purpose other than listing thousands of sites? Can you give a couple of examples?
At the end of the day, I look at them this way: Is it, for example, a website for an organization that lists its members? To that I say fine, use it. Is it a website that is a directory of businesses with no cogent organization to it or without any type of central theme - I say run. Most of the time, I say run.
We have a client who someone signed up for a directory back in March of 2013, they became our client on 4/1 and we discovered the first set of new links on 4/17 when they went from 4800 links to about 6,000. By mid May, that directory was responsible for having added over 20,000 links to the site. It was a "networking" directory.
Hope this helps a little,
Robert

Internal links: How do I find keywords that are not linked to a URL?
Hi Moz members I'd really like to place an internal link of every instance of an important keyword phrase "cycling caps" or "cycling cap" to my eComm category page

https://www.prendas.co.uk/collections/headwear/cotton-caps I feel this would not only help my customers browsing my store, but I believe it will help from an SEO perspective. How can I search my site using Moz, Screaming Frog, Google etc to find every time cycling cap(s) is used but is not linked to the above URL? I can then apply the same for cycling jerseys, socks, etc Andy0 -
What is the importance of root domains linking to your website in Google's rankings? I notice our competition has a much higher number on keywords I'm analyzing. Thank you!
I've noticed our competition has a much higher number of "root domains" linking to their page than we do. Is this simply a result of more websites linking to them? How long does it normally take to build up these numbers/rankings? (I'm assuming it's a concerted effort, which I'll be researching.) Thank you!

Internal linking anchor text with automated ASP.NET link building
Hi Everyone I really need some help here, the problem I have must be one that many have. I have a simple e-commerce style website so 1 product page can in fact get 40-50 internal links to it. These links come from a mixture of: 1. The parent category pages that the product sits on (Rugged PDA) and in turn the 10 filter pages of this category page (Rugged PDA, ordered by battery size). 2. Alternative product list on other product pages, So many products link to each other as alternatives. From Google analytics we can see that visitors like to browse product to product seeing 5 alternatives on each page with titles like "Smaller", "more rugged" etc. 3. Manufactuer pages, so we have a link to each product from each manufacturer home page where we talk lots about each manufacture we resell. We also have links from images used in the website. So its a nice usable website but we're finding that Google is still telling us in Webmaster tools that it thinks some links are dubious and we're trying to find out why. We only now have 190 external links to the website, most are internal and from the website or our blog on a subdomain. The problem we think is that we generate the category and products pages all dynamically so the anchor text is looking the same. Will this potentially create issues for us? Dave

I want to design SEO link building strategy for my website? Is wordpress.com, squidoo, tumblr, blogger, typepad - Good option for link building?
I am currently concentrating on 8 keywords, for e.g (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H). I will be writing blogs with 2 of any related keywords present in it. I am thinking to post 5 blogs on 5 different platforms as (wordpress.com, Squidoo, Typepad, Tumblr, blogger) respectively. I am thinking a strategy as: Monday: Keyword A,B on Wordpress/ C,D on Squidoo/E,F on Typepad/G,H on Blogger/ A,C on Tumblr. Tuesday:C,D on Wordpress/E,F on Squidoo/ etc.... and will rotate these keywords through out the week and the cycle restarts on Monday. The URL for every keyword will be different and relevant to that keyword. I need quick suggestion on this topic..Please..

Is it worth it to link to sites that link to you in guest posts?
Suppose you published a guest post on a quality site and you link to a previous guest post you have written for another site (which links to you). In theory you could send link juice to the page that links to you for a second order effect. Has anyone seen results from this tactic?

Need ideas to get do follow links from highly competative niche "wedding"
I need to get high quality do-follow links and my target market/keyword is ‘Maui wedding’ and a few others. Because it is such a competitive market I am having a hard time getting links from local companies providing Maui Weddings (I know why because they are my competitors) and national companies sites aren't much help because they are trying to provide leads to their advertisers. I would like do-follow links from non-paid sources any ideas or resources you could help with would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Any good content sites with good quality links?
I have some content which is still relevant and interesting but not really suitable for my current websites. I have been thinking of using this on an article site to generate some links back to my sites, but I am wary about this due to Google's targeting of content sites. I currently have good PR's on Squidoo and Hubpages which link back and work quite well. Can anyone suggest any others or any ideas how to use this content for SEO purposes? Is using it for article submissions to get links short sited?
