Un Natural Links Removal Strategy
-
Hi All,
I want to discuss one of my strategy that i applied on my website to dilute the value of TOXIC links those are coming on my website.
Issue:
- Poor, Spam quality links were created for the home page and some inner pages.
- Google considered those links Unnatural and took manual action
- All rankings were disappeared
Strategy
- Deleted all landing pages those are over linked from spam websites.
- Created new landing pages with some modifications and new content.
- Because home page(index.html) was also penalized by Google, i made the changes in index.html and put no follow no index tag so that bad links value couldn't pass from index.html to other inner pages (Newly created pages and pages those were not over optimized).
- Created new index.php page. Give option to the user to the Enter the Website from Index.html (Default Home Page) to index.php.
- Blocked all bad URLs (Un Natural Links) through .htaccess file. When user or Google bot will come through those blocked URLs (Un Natural Links), server responses 403 (Access Denied).
The domain for which i did above experiment is http://www.thebaildepot.com/index.php
Now, i have doubts on below points:
- Blocking unnatural links (403, access denied) from .htaccess file will really work?
- No follow no index to default page and than give option to the user to navigate to newly create index.php
I did this experiment around 10 days before still rankings are not coming in Google top 100.

It happens A lot of links are hard to remove. If you're sure you have a penalty from links, I'd build a list of those links you've tried to remove, submit a disavow file to Google, and explain what happened in a reconsideration request. In that request include where the links came from, what you've done, and how you'll continue to clean things up and play by the rules in the future.

Hi Carson,
Thanks for your reply. As i earlier mentioned that link removal process it not working. I tried many times but all the times Google rejected are reconsideration request. I don't know where i am lacking.

Hi Ruchi,
I think your approach to removing landing/sub pages is fine, but ultimately less effective than removing links. If the page has nothing but bad links pointing to it, I'd say kill it off (you can just give a 410 response) and refresh your content as best you can. Cut the landing pages, but also try to cut the links at their source.
The root, however, is going to be tricky. noindex/nofollowing your home page is not something I'd suggest. It might not work because Google will just assume index.html is the same page and count the links towards the index anyway. I won't worry about the theory on that, because it could be worse if it does work. You'd also be blocking any good links pointing to your root page. It's also a pretty terrible user experience if you direct users away.
Definitely do not try to block links in .htaccess. This doesn't work - at best it prevents Google from crawling your site on that occasion. At worst it sends Google the message that your site isn't reliably online.
Try to remove all of the links you've built, starting with the lowest-authority and anchor-text-heavy links. If your removal fails, consider using the disavow tool on spammy links. Hope this helps

Thanks Federico,
I agree with you but we have already tried to remove most of the unnatural links and filed reconsideration request with proper evidences. We find out unnatural links through different tools such as Google Webmaster tools, Cognitive SEOs etc. but all the times Google rejects our reconsideration request with the reason that our website is still receiving unnatural links. In the reconsideration request response Google also shares some sample of unnatural links.
The worst part is that after lots of deep analysis, we still not able to find out the list of whole unnatural links.

I don't think you are taking a good approach...
Instead of noindexing the pages, or blocking those that have bad backlinks, you should fix the backlinks.
Run a complete analysis on the entire backlink profile, go over each and every link trying to remove it by contacting the Webmaster, document everything you do on the process.
Once you are left with those link that you don't want and the webmaster didn't remove, create and upload a disavow file listing all those links.
Then you can proceed to send a reconsideration request, explaining Google what happened, what you did to fix it and send the proof of your work.
If you continue with your strategy, you basically need to create several new pages to block any bad link, and wait for the penalty to expire (nobody knows how long it takes). Then if and only if you removed all those pages that have bad backlinks you won't be penalized again, so this could take months, or even years... it isn't a good strategy at all...

Which links to disavow?
I've got a new client that just fired their former SEO company, which was building spammy links like crazy! Using GSC and Majestic, I've identified 341 linking domains. I'm only a quarter of the way through the list, but it is clear that the overwhelming majority are from directories, article directories and comment spam. So far less than 20% are definitely links I want to keep. At what point do I keep directory links? I see one with a DA of 61 and a Moz spam score of 0. I realize this is a judgement call that will vary, but I'd love to hear some folks give DA and spam numbers. FWIW, the client's DA is 37.

Link Juice + multiple links pointing to the same page
Scenario
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Mark_Ch
The website has a menu consisting of 4 links Home | Shoes | About Us | Contact Us Additionally within the body content we write about various shoe types. We create a link with the anchor text "Shoes" pointing to www.mydomain.co.uk/shoes In this simple example, we have 2 instances of the same link pointing to the same url location.
We have 4 unique links.
In total we have 5 on page links. Question
How many links would Google count as part of the link juice model?
How would the link juice be weighted in terms of percentages?
If changing the anchor text in the body content to say "fashion shoes" have a different impact? Any other advise or best practice would be appreciated. Thanks Mark0 -
Removing A Blog From Site...
Hi Everyone, One of my clients I am doing marketing consulting for is a big law firm. For the past 3 years they have been paying someone to write blog posts everyday in hopes of improving search traffic to site. The blog did indeed increase traffic to the site, but analyzing the stats, the firm generates no leads (via form or phone) from any of the search traffic that lands in the blog. Furthermore, I'm seeing Google send many search queries that people use to get to the site to blog pages, when it would be much more beneficial to have that traffic go to the main part of the website. In short, the law firm's blog provides little to no value to end users and was written entirely for SEO purposes. Now the law firm's website has 6,000 unique pages, and only 400 pages of the site are NON-blog pages (the good stuff, essentially). About 35% of the site's total site traffic lands on the blog pages from search, but again... this traffic does not convert, has very high bounce rate and I doubt there is any branding benefit either. With all that said, I didn't know if it would be best to delete the blog, redirect blog pages to some other page on the site, etc? The law firm has ceased writing new blog posts upon my recommendation, as well. I am afraid of doing something ill-advised with the blog since it accounts now for 95% of the pages of the website. But again, it's useless drivel in my eyes that adds no value and was simply a misguided SEO effort from another marketer that heard blogs are good for SEO. I would certainly appreciate any guidance or advice on how best to handle this situation. Thank you for your kind help!

How do you remove Authorship photos from your homepage?
Suppose you have a website with a blog on it, and you show a few recent blog posts on the homepage. Google see the headline + by Author Name and associates that user's Google+ profile. This is great for the actual blog posts, but how do you prevent this from happening on the homepage or other blog roll page?

What's the best internal linking strategy for articles and on-site resources?
We recently added an education center to our site with articles and information about our products and industry. What is the best way to link to and from that content? There are two options I'm considering: Link to articles from category and subcategory pages under a section called "related articles" and link back to these category and subcategory pages from the articles: category page <<--------->> education center article education center article <<---------->> subcategory page Only link from the articles to the category and subcategory pages: education center article ---------->> category page education center article ---------->> subcategory page Would #1 dilute the SEO value of the category and subcategory pages? I want to offer shoppers links to more information if they need it, but this may also take them away from the products. Has anyone tested this? Thanks!

So what exactly does Google consider a "natural" link profile?
As part of my company's ongoing SEO effort we have been analyzing our link profile. A colleague of mine feels that we should be targeting at least 50% branded anchor text. He claims this is what search engines consider "natural" and we should not go past a threshold of 50% optimized anchor text to make sure we avoid any penalties or decrease in rankings. 50% brand term anchor text seems too high to me. I pointed out that most of our competitors who outrank us have a much greater percentage of optimized links. I've also read other industry experts state that somewhere in the range of 30% branded anchor text would be considered natural. What percent of branded vs. optimized anchor text do you feel looks "natural" and what do you base your opinion on?
