Affect of dissavow upload on Moz DA
-
Hi All,
Just used an agency to run linkdetox on our site www.orsgroup.com and they have uploaded a dissavow file after chopping out quite a few bad links. Our current Moz DA is 27 - Im just wondering how long this takes to kick in and if my DA will rise as a result.
The opensite explorer link is here

Hi Paul,
Great Tip, most of the time though the sites ranking fine in Bing and as it works differently to Google I find no need to disavow vast amounts of links. I'm curios to see where Yahoo is going to go as I know they decided to get back in the game.
-
Actually, Chris, if you're submitting a disavow list to Google, you should also be submitting it to Bing through their Bing Webmaster Tools. In fact, Bing created this capability well before Google ever offered it.
Too many people ignore Bing in their optimisation efforts, in my opinion. One of the best ways to protect one's site from the vagaries and uneven treatment of small business sites by Google is to spread your traffic acquisition amongst a larger number of sources. The less utterly dependent on Google a site is, the better it can survive a hit from the Big G.
My opinion,, anyway.

The only way you will tell what is happening is if a manual penalty is corrected and removed, or SERP positions start to climb after an algorithmic penalty.
Not totally true. You never really recover the same ranking when a penalization is lifted, simply because you deleted or disavowed those links that were making your site rank high.
Therefore, as in many extreme cases I saw, if 90% of your link profiles was toxic, and you have both deleted or disavowed, you're site will still be buried in the deepness of SERPs.
That's why every cleaning of the link profile should be accompanied by the creation/earning of new links.

Not the Mention Bing and other search engines.
-
It's worth remembering that the disavow tag is completely invisible to anyone other than Google, so Majestic, Ahrefs, MOZ or any other backlink crawler, will still see the same. Even Webmaster Tools still shows the links.

Thanks for all the responses, perhaps keeping my eye on something like ahrefs will show more results?

There's another thread asking for this feature, and we're discussing internally if anything around this is feasible, but any implementation would be a ways out right now.
I think that moz should spend their first effort (a big one) making documentation that explains what DA is, what it ain't, how you should use it, and how you shouldn't. (I know that there is a bit written about it already but people are not reading it and people don't "get it".)
DA/PA is the most misunderstood thing in Moz. No kidding.
Look how many times people come to Q&A complaining why they have higher DA than the people who are outranking them. They don't understand it.
Lots of people are worshipin' these numbers, selling increases as a service, crying because their DA dropped a point, using them for their base performance indicators, thinkin' it is connected to Google... etc.
IMO this stuff is a decoy away from productive work.
Just my opinion. Give me thumbs down if you disagree.

Hi,
Just to add to Keri's reply, you can start to see the effects of the disavow from as little as a few days, to as much as 6 weeks.
My suggestion is just to keep an eye on your positions in the SERPs for a good gauge to when changes are starting to take effect.

I would love to see the idea as it could make life a lot easier for recovery as once the list is done its a bit more head scratchy as to why you're left with.

Hi! Moz can't access your Google Webmaster Tools or disavow file, so you won't see a change in DA by disavowing those links. Google will know about the change, but we won't. There's another thread asking for this feature, and we're discussing internally if anything around this is feasible, but any implementation would be a ways out right now.

DA is not increasing of my site
Hi, I have a problem or maybe it's usual that I'm creating quality backlinks for my site Best Travel Purse but its DA is not increasing, as usual, it does for other sites, what should I do that my site's DA would increase?

Back link from site with DA of 72 to a website domain. Clicking on the link redirects to our website not the attended one.
Hi,
Link Building | | JIMBO16
I've ran a back link check and discovered a good back link to a site which then gets redirected back to my company's website. I have a feeling that an old SEO agency has purchased a small website which has a decent link back from a relevant organisation with a high Domain authority and then redirects the domain to our website to get the link juice. What are your thought on this? Is this really bad practise and possibly damaging? Thanks, Jim0 -
In-depth/longform content DEFEAT backlink, DA/Trust score!
Hi all, There is a new way to defeat the big boys. Build a releated topic with minimum 4000 words and focus on in-depth content and use the target keywords more than 2,5% of each content. So its game over for linkbuilders and happy end for the copywriters? Ofcourse every factor of seo is important, but its better to focus on in-depth content. To score good with your target keywords in SERP. What are the challenges for a big webshop? Create a related deeply content? that separated from your webshop?

Redirects affect on page and domain authority
Hi - excuse me if this is stupid question but I'm rather new to this. Currently the PA for the home page is 16 and the DA 28 and I have some concerns that my efforts are being diluted. When I use OSE on www.sassandgrace.co.uk I get different link results to sassandgrace.co.uk but there is a redirect in place to sassandgrace.co.uk and cannot run a crawl report, for example, on www.sassandgrace.co.uk. The PA and DA are identical for each but the number of links different With a smallish number of links pointing to each but with a redirect in place, am I losing some of the effect or is having the redirect in place giving me all the credit for links to both addresses? Thanks

Strange new links being picked up in Webmaster tools affecting SERPs
Hi, I have a question regarding new links being found by Google, and showing in our latest links file from Webmaster tools. I run this site: http://www.propertysales.com it's a fairly new website with a small (ish) link profile but over the last 3 months I've seen a lot of links being found in Google like this: http://www.financecourier.com/news/story/523316/foreign-carmakers-milk-chinas-cash-cow/full_story.html it's clearly a scrap of a webpage from the FT.com, who we partner with, that has a link to PropertySales.com but the number of links Webmaster tools is seeing is much bigger than we would normally get in any given month. As a rule I would normally ignore scrapper sites as I’ve always assumed Google is smart enough to know which site these are and thus wouldn't affect your SERPs but I’ve also seen a drop in our SERPs over the same month so now I’m thinking these are effecting the sites SEO. Does anybody have any insight into this or advice on the best way to handle this, I looking at going through these site and adding them to our disavow file but this can take a few month to take effect so are they any better options or way to handle this? Thanks for your help in advance. Rufus

What benefit does a site with a low DA get from someone guest posting who links to a site with a high DA?
I'm relatively new to link building and although this may be an obvious question I can't seem to find an answer anywhere even after searching Google.

Links built by previous SEO company are mostly 'dead' - will this affect me?
Hi, This is my first post/question in the forum - so apologies if this topic has already been covered - or if the question seems daft! Here's the issue: I have started working on two websites, and have been doing a lot of on-site work, increasing valuable content, etc... I'm now slowly moving onto more off-site stuff and have noticed that a lot of the backlinks to both websites (built by SEO companies before I got here) are 'dead' and simply return 404 errors (yet they still show up in site explorer). I'll be honest, the links aren't great; the SEO companies have taken the word 'relevant' and completely re-defined it in their books! Will these links - from sites that aren't relevant... but are dead - have any impact on my SEO efforts from now on? Or should I treat these sites as a kind of 'clean slate' and work on building the brand naturally through social media and user experience, etc? Also - I'm re-structuring the internal pages of the site... would it be worth re-directing the old URLs (with all the dead in-bound links - that may have suffered a -50 penalty) to the new ones, or just start fresh with the new pages? Any advice, tips or stories to share (relevant ones, of course!) will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Nick
