Text in collapsed section
-
Does anyone have any quantifiable evidence regarding text that is collapsed - when clicked the section expands and presents the text, against just having the text on view in the page.
That is, instead of having a FAQ with question followed by answer, there is a question which you click to expose/expand the answer.
Could the collapsed text be potentially detrimental to ranking?
-
Possibly. This is on DNN which seems to be like a big old clunky dinosaur.

Hi Michael,
Ah - that's different yes. You would want to be doing this with CSS, with the collapsed content available in HTML. Google and other search engines don't regularly execute js so would likely not see the content. Manual investigation would let a webspam team member see that you're not hiding anything maliciously, but it's not a risk you want to take.
Can you do this with CSS?
Cheers.

What i'm not happy about is that the module running on javascript loses all content if javascript is not enabled in the browser. I was under the impression it is not a good idea to work like that and if js not running all text should be visible. Is that right?
-
Hi Michael,
I am not sure what you are looking for in terms of evidence, but this is a widely accepted and often implemented tactic for web design purposes, and this will not get you into trouble unless a) you are "hiding" huge amounts of text (many, many times bigger than the page itself), or b) if the text has nothing to do with the content of the page that is available on page load. An FAQ with expandable answers should always be fine, but consider providing the first sentences of the answer on page load if possible.

Do non-canonical pages need to worry about things like Alt Text, H1 tags, etc?
Just wanted to confirm, if we have multiple similar pages, with all of their canonicals pointing towards the prime page, does it impact SEO rankings at all if the non-canonical pages were missing alt text from their images, or shared duplicate or multiple H1 tags? Basic SEO page construction stuff? I know some will hurt user CTR but wanted to make sure that SEO crawlers don't care about them even if indexed.

Hero Banners & Live Text Q?
Hey Guys N' Girls. What are the benefits of having live selectable text on your home page slider banners? I understand that as live text Google can read the text, so there are keyword and relevancy benefits. But the question is how much impact on ranking this will have? The reason I ask is our website solution can add live text but the fonts are limited to 9 basic fonts. We would like to use more jazzy fonts in the banner, but our only option then is to use a jpeg or png. Thanks for your responses. Owen

Is this still considered true about INTERNAL anchor text? "Penguin seems to be targeting overly aggressive anchor text (both internally and externally), especially from low-quality sources."
Recently I've heard a few people say now it's okay to be aggressive with internal linking. So a link from mydomain.com/news to mydomain/widgets can use spammy anchor text like "best green widgets in California" that are an obvious problem for links coming in from external site. Which is accurate?

Google index text that I can not find
Hello everybody, As you can see here: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:G-iicHoDJeYJ:www.billigste-internet.dk/&hl=da&gl=dk&strip=1 Google index the text "Forside" as the H1 tag, and "Right" and "Left" as body text, on my website. But I do not want that Google indexes this. But when I look in mine source code (see here: view-source:http://www.billigste-internet.dk/) I can not find "Forside", "rigth" or "Left", so I can delete it. Is there anyone who can help me where I need to delete the text "Forside", "Right" and "Left", so Google does not index this text? Hope someone can help.

Category Anchor Text - all the same - should I worry?
I have analyzed several websites and have come across sites that have many backlinks from their category pages and those all have the anchor text of the blog title. Should I worry that categories in WordPress can have different Titles and Descriptions and there are plugins to help with the variation. I haven't found any good recommendations regarding if the anchor text should be changed for categories or how to accomplish that. (I have scoured SEOMOZ for answers but may have missed the answer.) Thanks, Linda

What image attribute should carry "anchor text" for internal linking
Newbie question: an internal link generally should carry keyword anchor text, so if the link is actually an image, what image attribute should contain the equivalent of the anchor text

Is anchor text link juice passed in internal links?
Let's say I have www.bobswidgets.com. If I have "widgets for sale in tuscon arizona' be the anchor text on an internal link on www.bobswidgets.com/page1 which goes to www.bobswidgets.com/page2 - does the value of the anchor text (widgets for sale in tuscon arizona) get passed internally? External links pass the value of the anchor text but do internal links?

Better for SEO to use a hyphen in the name of a website to break up text?
To maximize SEO, would it be better to use a hyphen between two words in the name of a website? For instance, www.londonparis.com or www.london-paris.com. Would it be OK to use www.LondonParis.com Many thanks in advance, Ricardo
