Internal Links
-
I have a page that I am working to rank. Open Site Explorer shows that I have 69 internal links and a competitive site (ranked #4) has 822 internal links.
The page I am looking to rank is on my main navigation menu so it should have an incoming link from every page on my site. My site is 6 years old and has 497 pages indexed according to Google Webmaster Tools. What do I need to do to improve the number of internal links that are being recognized?

No problem Good luck!

Thanks, I appreciate your time and expertise!

The reality is that there are only that many internal links on that page. Moz is probably capturing all of them. If you wanted to increase that number, you would have to add more links in your content, header, footer, etc. Your site in total has something like 2,500 total internal links (between all the pages on your site).
As Jane as put though, internal links are a very small SEO factor only and really are only key in spreading link equity and PageRank around to different pages of your site.
If that page is in your nav then your are going to pass a lot of good equity on your site to that page. But you should also add other text links in your content with different anchor text to diversify the anchor text linked to the page.

Hi Jane,
Thanks for your reply! I am not sure how to tell if the pages are indexed in OSE.
I have a competitor's site that is ranked #4 for the term I am looking to rank for. OSE says he has 822 Internal links with 1 external link. OSE says I have 69 internal links and 32 external links.
That is why I thought I needed to look at my internal links to compete with him.
Thank you.

Hi there,
The internal link number isn't the best metric to go on when looking at authority - if it were, you could rely on a page with 100,000 internal pages to have the best rankings because all those pages link to each other. Far more importance is placed on inbound links.
The importance of inbound links is to ensure PageRank is being properly passed around the website, especially from top pages like the home page and other strong internal pages to the page you are interested in having rank.
I am not sure why OSE wouldn't have picked up all of your pages - I take it that those 400+ pages are not indexed in OSE at all?

Simply in terms of internal links, are you looking at the page metrics or domain metrics? Could you also provide a link

Crawl Report shows Internal links as zero
We have recently updated our website (https://www.payumoney.com/) and created new pages like "https://www.payumoney.com/free-payment-gateway-India.html". we have internally linked all the pages, but when I check the crawl report from MOZ it shows internal links as 0 and these pages have the PA of 1 and not increasing. I am unable to find out the reason why is it happening?

Alt text / internal linking
Hi everyone A question about best practice when linking from pictures on our homepage - hirespace.com We have an option of using divs with background images (nicer in terms of design) but it means that we can't use anchor text or alt text to show Google what these internal links are about. The other option is to use images which do not allow us as much flexibility in terms of CSS but would allow us to use alt text. There is also an opinion that we should have separate text links at the bottom of the homepage to get the anchor page in. What is best practice in this situation - is alt text worth sacrificing some CSS flexibility for? How important is anchor/alt text for internal linking? Thanks guys.

Internal linking question
I have a Q&A site which I am struggling to get ranking well in Google. I had a few questions 1. Should I be doing some internal linking and if so how is it best to do this? Should I go back into users questions and change certain keywords to links if applicable? 2. Should I be nofollowing the index pages ie /p1 /p2 of discussions? 3. If anyone has chance to look at the site and let me know if there is anything else I am doing wrong I would be really grateful. Thanks

To Many Links On Page
I'm having a problem on a crawl warning for our main site. The warning is that every one of my pages has to many links, a little over 1,000 on almost all of them. I think this is because our category list on our left hand sidebar has so many categories, and that sidebar appears on every last one of our pages even all the way into our products. Can anyone take a look and tell me if this is the reason why and what I could possibly do about this? Thanks in advance! www.Ocelco.com

Too Many On-Page Links on a Directory type website?
Hi there, I run a website which is a directory therefore there are a lot of On-Page links. If you take a look at the site, www.south-african-hotels.com, you will see there are a number of links on all pages which are completely relevant. I'm not sure what to remove as everything is relevant. The top navigation is available throughout and that alone has 120 links in it to give users easy access to information. Do I ignore the Too many On-Page links suggestion or do I change something? Any suggestions welcome! Thank you in advance!

Too Many On-Page Links
I recently took on a website design client and ran his website through a battery of tests using Pro to take a look at the crawl errors. One that seems to stump me is the error "Too many On-Page links" concerning his blog. (http://franksdesigns.com/wp/blog) This is the first time I've seen this error and am rather confused. The report says there are 104 links on this page. However, I'm having trouble grasping this concept or finding the 104 links. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support!

Should I put a No follow on each link in a Javascript dropdown menu?
I have a javascript dropdown menu on every page of my site. It lists all the wineries I write about and sell. About 300 links. I've been told that google doesn't like so many links on a page, but that it doesn't spider javascrpt. Then I hear that it does. Am I being penalized by all the links? Or does the spider really not see them? I don't want to give up my javascript menus, unless I have to. Should I put a no follow on each link inside the code? And on the other hand, am I losing google juice by not letting it see all the pages on my site that I link to in the javascript menu? Thanks in advance for your help!
