Facebook Page likes vs Webpage facebook likes - Social Media Query
-
I have a website and a facebook page.
I have the Facebook Social Plugin on my website which shows my facebook page likes - This is currently at approx 140 likes.
Is there a difference between facebook page likes and webpage likes?
For SEO purposes, should I be concentrating less on the Facebook page and more on building facebook likes for the website?
Are there any guides on this?
What gets people to like a website as opposed to a web-page?

I do like how the social media pops out the side but you have to question are users going skip over it. Would it be more effective if they didn't have to hover over the icon to see what's going on on your news feed and which of their friends already like your page - by just simply glancing to the sidebar.
But then again building fans to your fan page isn't your end goal. Building fans is merely a technique used to accomplish your end goal of making sales or conversions. So I can see how compromising page real estate can be a factor.
However you can consider writing a custom message that adds value to your facebook fanpage. A compelling message above or near the facebook plugin convincing a user to become a fan may be appropriate. Or if you have a contest running then informing your web visitors would work well.
I think the custom social media bars you have under each blog post is set up nicely to receive webpage likes. Establishing a referral program can help get your webpage liked/shared.
Your h4s and alt tags could be more keyword rich but the main content looks natural and include relevant keywords.
However, I would consider placing a prominent call-to-action above the fold somewhere.
These are just suggestions as there are multiple ways you could do this. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your prompt response. I guess I just have to work on both!!!
Which brings me onto my 2nd question:
Would you mind taking a look at my site and letting me know what you think in terms of:
- the way is is set up to receive facebook page likes / recommendations
- the way it is set up to receive webpage likes
- General on-page optimisation.
Many thanks.

When a user likes a website, it is really considered as sharing the website on the facebook feed.
Liking a facebook page is basically becoming a friend/fan of the company's page - where you can interact with them and see their posts.
I think having your website liked/shared would contribute more to SEO but having more likes on your fan page will you allow more users to see your content and interact with your brand.
I would focus on creating quality content and clever ways to attract "fans" then as a result the likes/shares to your website will come naturally.

Merging Facebook Pages - Getting Support from Facebook
Does anyone know how to get in touch with Facebook regarding issues with Facebook Pages and Merging Pages - I have posted on the Facebook Community Help Pages but no one from Facebook Support seems to read them or get in touch. Anyone got any ideas of how to get help from Facebook? Our original question on Facebook Community Help Pages was this but the question just got "merged" with another question where people were complaining about the same sort of problem with no one (out of 5 people on the thread) having come up with a solution of having heard from Facebook Support. We need to merge two company pages - The category and the address of the company of the page is the same on both pages - one page has a custom url - one does not. Both have the same first two words (i.e. the company name) as the page title. I do not want to list the pages publicly. Is there a way a member of facebook support can message us privately to discuss this please.

Diving into Social Media...
Hi Our company has a Facebook page - it's pretty outdated and barely used. I want to change that, but wondered if anyone had any advice on how to start it up again? It hasn't been used for a while, so how do you start off with your first post? Or do you act like you have been there the whole time... probably not the best idea. We don't want to confuse people or look stupid with the first post. I want it to be regularly used for content, community building and demonstrating the personality of the company. Thank you 🙂

Facebook Pages - Best to have one page or multiple pages when a company has multiple locations?
I'm working with a business that has multiple locations (13) in several different states. Is it best practice to have one central FB page for the company and/or separate location pages? It's for a self storage company that does not have one central phone number, so each location would have separate information listed on the page. They do have a central website with different pages for each location. I'd love to hear the communities thoughts on the best way to handle this.

Social Media Links
I cannot seem to find the answer through my research. Can somebody tell me if social media links to a website are taking into consideration by Google? For example, if l have a video on my website and post the link on my facebook page, when other people share it do more and more links get created? Are these picked up on open site explorer?

Do bitly and owly shares on social media help out my site for SEO?
Hi Mozzers, Do shortened URLs, such as bitly and owly help out my website in terms of SEO? I know they will help in terms of referral traffic from people clicking on the URLs, but how about increasing DA, PA, etc.? Thanks!

Is duplicate content in social media ok?
We use Twitter, Facebook, a blog, and Google +. Currently we create unique content for each. These platforms have the ability to "cross-post" (Where what you put on your facebook or blog gets tweeted, for example). Is it important to keep this content unique? Or can we duplicate across these platforms?

Social Media Campaigns
Hey SEOmoz Community, I have a couple questions about social media campaigns. Which KPIs do you use for social media campaigns? How do you determine realistic campaign goals? I am looking at projecting the number of followers/fans and the amount of traffic a site can expect to see as a result of this growth. Any suggestions. Thanks! Geoff
