Retargeting and Display Advertising - Moz data

Hello Dr Moz'ers
So we have a new competitor in our market (6 months) that has basically copied our business model 100%, grrrr. We have been in the market since 2008 .This new website is ranking well considering how difficult our market is.
This new website is using the re-targeting display advertising and within 6 months his Moz data is showing around 45,000 back links, is this because of the re-targeting display advertising?
Is there any link juice from the re-targeting display advertising because the MOz data says the site has 100% follow even though its an image.

Hey Steve!
We will index any HTML links if they can be found but not links embedded in JS as most ads are with their redirect structure.

Is there a way to PM the site domain name for more detail incite as it's not making much sense to us. The data is very confusing.
Even though there is no google juice can the MOZ data be confused by the ad links?

Remarketing should have no benefit to rankings whatsoever. Remarketing ads are loaded via javascript, are generally in iframes with nofollow and they go through a redirect chain before leading to the website. This means that they aren't actual links that Google sees or counts for SEO benefit.
They may be using some sort of blackhat method to gain links that fast, but remarketing is not that method.

Session and conversion data missing from AdWords campaigns in Analytics
Hi all, For a client of ours, we're not seeing session & conversion data for AdWords campaigns in Analytics. We are seeing click & cost data. Adwords and Analytics are linked and autotagging is enabled. The site where we're experiencing this problem is www.maxifleur-plantes-artificielles.fr. It's a Magento-based store with the Web Cooking Universal Analytics extension installed. The bulk of AdWords traffic is landing on the page www.maxifleur-plantes-artificielles.fr/plantes-artificielles, which has no active redirects that could remove the ?gclid parameter for as far as I can tell. Yet, click IDs that I manually tested won't show up in the reports either. Mid April, all traffic aside from direct traffic just disappeared from the reports. Google's Tag Assistant gives a lot of errors, but in the source code the snippet looks just fine and we don't have problems with other web shops that use the aforementioned extension. Suggestions as to what could be the problem are most welcome. Thanks! Bas

Will Google penalize a text ad if the display URL goes nowhere?
Today I had a colleague ask me if Google Adwords will penalize text ads that have display URLs that land on 404 pages. I fully understand the policy that the domains in display URLs and destination URLs have to match up or Google will disapprove the text ad. However if the display url contains the proper domain (and a target keyword phrase for a file folder) will Google penalize the text ad quality score if the display URL lands on a 404? I had trouble finding specific evidence for this.

Google Display Network had 3000 new placements in May
Hi all, I'm running through traffic figures from May as there was a huge spike. This is down to a spike in Adwords, specifically the Display Network. In May 2014, there is a total of 4337 placements. In April 2014, there is a total of 1561 placements. With nearly 3000 new placements where the ad could be shown, would anybody be able to explain as to how and why this has happened? I've run through the change history, and nothing i've done explains the extra placements. Auto add placements was on, but has been on for 12 months with no more than 50 extra per month. The only change that has been done that may link is I've added a mobile phone extension on ads displayed on mobile devices? The significant extra cost has been of no benefit to the campaign, as the advert displayed on various apps, forums and irrelevant websites.Would be great if anybody could shed some light here! Display advertising - targetting
I am looking into running adverts on the display network and see there is a range of options available for targetting potential customers I see that the list includes the following: 1 placement targeting 2 contextual targeting 3 interest category targeting 4 keyword targeting 5 demographic targeting Can anyone tell me what the best option or combination of this options is? The product I am selling is a weight loss product targeted at women. There are a few companies currently selling this product on the market and we are not the cheapest. Can anyone suggest which size advert is more successful comparatively. Also is it possible to only select different types of adverts available on the display network? What audience size do you need for a successful retargeting campaign?
I recently launched a trial of a retargeting campaign but after a month I have only 100 impressions and 0 clickthroughs. I am working in a competitive space but I placed a relatively low bid because I read that retargeting campaign banner ads should cost less. The number of people who have been added to the retargeting list by visiting the site is under 10,000. What do you think is most likely to be the problem causing a low number of impressions and clickthroughs? Can a retargeting campaign be successful with a small audience size?
