Increase in 404 errors in Webmaster Tools
-
We have recently updated our website www.cooke.co.uk and twice webmaster tools have reported an increase in 404 errors.
However, these errors are not for normal pages, they are things like http://www.cooke.co.uk/?post_type=crown_enquiry&p=1045
I have used the redirection tool in WordPress to redirect all these links to the homepage but does anyone know why this is happening since it is the second time I had to do it.
Thanks.

Hi Brian,
First of all, remove all of those 301's to the homepage. This will cause you nothing but a huge headache (like now, you have redirect loops). Redirecting pages en-masse to your homepage is a big no-no in general.
Hop back into Webmaster Tools and mark the 404's as fixed and hopefully this should appease Googlebot as it doesn't look like those pages actually exist on the site anywhere, unless you have captured each one with a redirect.
You can block all of those pages via the robots.txt file as well by adding the following:
Disalow: /?post_type=crown_enquiry&p=*
I would also block the /wp-content/ folder via robots.txt while you are at at as well.
My robots file looks like this:
User-agent: * Disallow: /wp-admin/ Disallow: /wp-includes/ Disallow: /wp-content/ Sitemap: http://www.inetseo.co.uk/sitemap.xml.gz
That said, 404's won't really do anything to your rankings - it is more of a warning that something isn't there than anything else. Of course, if you had a site that had 10,000 pages then you suddenly got 9,999 404 errors, this might be a little different

Can Anyone help me with Google search console soft 404 error?
Hello everyone, I just build one site on WordPress and submitted it to the Google search console along with the sitemap. Some URLs got indexed but one of my URL is showing error in Search console. My post https://hotpass.site/create-subdomain-godaddy/ is showing soft error 404 webpage not available in Google search console. I have rechecked the site and seo settings. Nothing is there. I have even checked it with LIVE URL test. But still Search console is not accepting this URL. Can anyone help me with this? Help will be appriciated.

Does the new Google Analytics Search Console Beta tool use API to pull more data?
So my client has been asking for definitive proof of why the search query data provided on Google Search Console does not exactly match up the data presented directly in the Search Console itself. The simple answer is that the Google Search Console is limited to 1000 rows of data. However our client is requesting a Google article/documentation of why the new Search Console beta tool has no row limit (hence much more data for a big website). I know that the Google Search Console API was available before Google announced the new Search Console Beta tool in Google Analytics. I also know this API could pull in more data than the 1000 row limit. However is there any article available (preferably from Google) that Google Analytics is pulling this Search Console data via API? Thanks!

Fb, twitter, etc stats tool?
I once saw a tool (from Distilled, I think?) where you would input your blog post or page URL, and it would give you a table showing how many Facebook likes, Tweets, etc that page has gotten. Does anyone have the URL for this or a similar tool?

I wonder if someone can help me understand some data I'm seeing in Google Analytics. SetUp Goal with 3 step Funnel Date Comparison is 1st-8th September & 1st-8th June The Data (pics attached) Looking at the Goal Conversion Rate I can see: September - 11.58% vs June - 10.42% an increase which Google shows as (+11.18%) For same time period Abandonment Rate is showing September - 71.3% vs June - 61.5% - an increase which Google shows as (+16.5%) The Questions How can I bee seeing both an increase in conversion rate AND and increase in Abandonment rate on the funnel? And why doesnt "(Conversion Rate + Abandonment Rate) = 100%" ? Many thanks for any help! yqwFP.png cj5dn.png
