Backlink profile
-
Hi there
Thanks for everyone here for their posts.
As a newbie (with dozens of SEO providers asking me to pay them!), I was wondering if there's a preferred / better backlink profile to target in light of Panda/Penguin.
I get a lot of companies offering 1000's of profile creations, which seems worthless to me! Surely certain types of links (local vs international), blogs, articles etc, have more value just through the fact that they offer something to the user who sees it (and hopefully that something is sticky, high quality content!)
I understand that there is no magic formula, but at least want to know whats not worth doing and working backwards from there.
Any opinions from users who have ranked well recently? I've got a mailbox full of sales pitches, so would be good to see this from an expert's eyes!
Thanks in advance
Regards

You definitely seem to understand what you type of links you need. Also understand, link building is difficult and you get what you pay for. Choose a company that doesn't BS you. Don't look for guaranteed # of links or things like that. Ask them what techniques and ideas they have. Go from there.
There are no result guarantees in this field, but you can guarantee honest hard work and the creation of a good plan. Sometimes, one good link can be better than a ton of low-quality ones. Not to mention bad links can actually get you in trouble.

Thanks for that - it helps a lot!
Do you have any opinions on articles or posting articles to directories?
Again, to me it would seem that a more relevant directory (i.e. a finance one for finance related stuff) is more appropriate is your site is in that niche. You would'nt post an article on dating in one of those niches I think!
Google presumably categorises all of this in a very clever way, I presume the lesson is to stay as 'natural' as possible? E.g. an article on a Kenyan site about a service only available for UK users will get picked up by their algo?
So, how does one control that up front? Is that even possible?

Shoot for a company that will help you get links on blog posts with editorial standards. You want links on websites that meet some of these basics:
- Visible author profile
- Consistent topic/focus for the website is similar to your niche
- Visible social proof on posts (comments, likes, tweets)
Ask yourself: Does my link belong there? Will it help anyone on that page? Will people on that page visit my site and find what I offer interesting?
Meeting those criteria above will ensure you are getting great links. I'm a realist though, and understand not every link you get will be fantastic. Nor does it have to be. Those are just the types of links you should be putting effort towards.
You are absolutely correct that creating profiles by the 1,000s is not valuable.

Link reclamation: What happens when backlinks are pointing to other page than the most related page? Any risks?
Hi all, We have started link reclamation process as we failed to redirect our old website links to newly created pages. Unfortunately most of the backlinks are pointing to a page which already has lots of backlinks. Just wondering if I can redirect the old pages to the other pages than the actual related page they must be pointing to make sure only one page doesn't take away all the backlinks. And what happens if Google find that backlink is pointing to a different page than the actual page? Thanks

Sudden increase in backlinks with "Link Reclamation": Any risk from Google?
Hi all, We failed to redirect the links of our old website versions to new website pages for years and we are planning to now redirect all those old links to new in the process of link reclamation. This activity may increase the back links suddenly or steadily. If there is sudden increase in backlinks, will it hurts us? What's Google's stand? Thanks

Do back-links to non indexed sub-domains / sub-directories considered by Google as website backlinks and pass Pagerank to website?
Hi, If some noindexed links on our website or sub-domain got some backlinks, will that backlinks pass Pagerank / linkjuice to website? Will they be considered as backlinks to website by Google? Here is a statement from Matt cutts for the question. My question is same as below with answer? Eric Enge: Can a NoIndex page accumulate PageRank? Matt Cutts: A NoIndex page can accumulate PageRank, because the links are still followed outwards from a NoIndex page. Thanks

Is this something that Google creates automatically or is it something the celebrity initiates/creates on their behalf. Does the celebrity have any options to choose from as to what displays on this sidebar? What is this called? I look forward to your response. qwYeiFZQRzT

Cleaning up anchor text profile
Hello, I've got 2 questions: I've narrowed down the most important anchor text to change in this spreadsheet (note the legend) We're not ranking like we used to for a few keywords including the main keyword "NLP" (1) Should we remove the links from the 3 directories and the one sitewide footer link or should we change to branded anchor text? The names of our company are NLPCA.COM NLP and Coaching Institute of California NLP and Coaching Institute (2) Thus, I think "NLP California" will not work as branded anchor text even though some people call us that. Correct?

Google doesnt index my Google+ Profile
Hey guys! I know it sounds like a novice question, but I have checked ALL THE BOXES THAT TELL GOOGLE TO INDEX MY GOOGLE+ PROFILE. It is Visible for search - 100%. It's been 3 weeks since I opened a Google+ profile and it still hasn't been indexed for its name. Any guesses what's going on? (It's not this name so don't try to google me)

Backlink focus?
Is it better to focus on getting as many backlinks to your homepage as possible or to create links to a variety of pages within your site? Is one better for over all domain authority? Thanks!
