How to add dropdown menus in the Wordpress Cutline theme?
-
I've got a fan website for a cult US TV show (that also sells merchandise as an affiliate). The site's design is about five years old, and I should probably revamp it at some point: http://www.btvsonline.com/
Anyway, the site's Cutline theme (http://cutline.tubetorial.com/) does not support native headers, and the header menu shows only a text list of my top-level pages. There are many subpages below these pages, but it's hard for users to find them without going to different pages to try to find things. What I'm looking for: if someone hovers above "Store" in the menu, a dropdown menu showing all the product pages would appear.
I've tried to find Wordpress plugins or PHP hacks to add dropdown menus and I have gone through Cutline's support site, but I have had no luck. Anyone in the Moz community have any advice? Perhaps I just need to revamp the site with a new and modern Wordpress theme? Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Hey, if I PayPal you $25 and give you my login details, could you modify the header.php file and get the dropdown menu to work? I'm sure it'd take just a few minutes. I don't know that much PHP.
My e-mail address is in my Moz profile -- feel free to e-mail there.
-
Ah, yeah then their isn't really anyway for you to get dropdown menus unless someone modifies your header.php to add them. My css would only have worked if cutline was using wordpress's built in menu function.
-
No, Cutline does not use that Menu function at all.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write that!
Unfortunately, I don't know exactly where to put it. I copied exactly what you wrote first at the bottom of this CSS file: http://www.btvsonline.com/wp-admin/theme-editor.php?file=style.css&theme=Cutline-1.4-3ColumnSplit (Stylesheet)
And then I placed the code here:
http://www.btvsonline.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=editcss (CSS Stylesheet Editor)
After I tried both options, my horizontal menu doesn't provide any dropdown menus. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks SO much again!

It doesn't look the theme has been updated since 2011, so I don't imagine that it will be updated again, but a child theme would be best practice.
Samuel,
If it is using wordpress's built in menu editor I rewrote the css from the twentytwelve theme's menu to work with Cutline's theme. You should just be able to add this to the main css file. I don't think the theme will ever be updated again so I don't think that this will cause an issue.

My development skills aren't that hardcore, but it sounds like you would want to develop a child theme. If you're editing the actual theme, it's just going to get overwritten with the next theme update. But that sounds like a lot of trouble when you can probably find something that works for $50.

As far as I can tell Cutline's css doesn't include support for dropdown menus. Does Cutline's main menu use the wordpress menu editor under appearance > menu in the main dashboard?

Hacked Wordpress Site! So many 404s
So I had a site that I worked on get hacked. We eliminated the URLs, found the vulnerability (Bluehost!) and rolled back the site. BUT they got into the Google Search Console and indexed a LOT of pages. These pages are now 404 errors and I asked the robots.txt file to make them noindex. The problem is that Google is placing a "this site may be hacked" on the search listing. I asked Google to reevaluate it and it was approved by there are still 80,000 404 errors being shown and it still believes that the uploaded files that we deleted should be showing. Doing a site search STILL shows the infected pages though and it has been a month. Any insight would definitely be helpful. Thanks!

2 menus Responsive website Seo question
Hi there Thanks for reading my post. İ am fairly new to SEO and dont know much coding. İ purchased an opencart theme and am working with a developer to modify it to make it more user friendly. The website is responsive and İ modified the menu for the desktop but now it doesnt have categories but just products. So it doesnt have URL for categories but just filter. So the developer recommended to add the mobile menu which has categories, and subcategories back to the desktop menu. İm not sure if this is a kosher approach to seo. Here is the link: As you can see there is a menu in the top menu and menu on the Main Menu. THoughts? will this be problem for duplicate content? The Main menu keywords are crucial and is what the website is revolving around. New website

Penalized because of Pharma Wordpress Hack, Fixed, When can we expect to get out?
Hey Guys, so one of our clients hired a web designers to re do his site. Unfortunately in the process the client got a nasty pharma hack and we had to completely re do his site in drupal by scratch because it was so difficult to remove the hack. In this process his lost all his rankings, sub 100 and the hack produced super low quality links from drug related sites pointing to his pages. We're 100% certain the hack is gone, we've disavowed every link, and used WMT to deindex all the drug pages the hack had created. Still 2 weeks later he is sub 100. Does anyone else know of any way to push this along faster? I wish there was some way to get Google to recognize its fixed faster as his business is destroyed.

Should We Add the W3.org Language Tag To Every Page Or Just The Home Page?
Greetings, We have five international sites around the world, two of which are in difference languages. Currently we have the following line of html code on the home page of each of the sites: Clearly, we need to change the "en" portion for the sites that aren't in English, but, should we include that meta tag in each of the site's pages, or will the home page suffice. Thanks!

Is it worth paying to add an article to another website?
I have done some research into the types of sites that my competitors have inbound links from and upon closer inspection it appears that in many cases they would have had to pay for this kind of exposure. I already do a lot of guess blogging (for free) in an attempt to get my content out there, but is it worth paying to add my content (with backlinks) to established sites with good Domain Authority or PageRank? I, as I'm sure do a lot of you, have been inundated throughout my SEO career with offers to pay £X for this and £X for that. What is a good rate to pay? Is it dependent on what you expect to get back or is there an industry norm? Happy for general chatter on this as I want to try it but if I am to get the budget from my manager I need to be certain it will pay dividends and is worthwhile.

sdhydroponics.com
and a wordpress install on
sdhydroponics.com/resources In Magento we get the XML sitemap manually by going to Catalog => Google Sitemap => Add Sitemap In wordpress we use Google XML sitemaps plugin. My questions are: Do I need both of these sitemaps? Or can I use one or the other? If I use both, do I make one sitemap1.xml and the other sitemap2.xml and drop them in the root? How do I make sure google knows I have 2 sitemaps? Anything else I should know? Thank You0 -

Questions about turning my wordpress site into an ecommerce site. Experience needed.
I have a wordpress site that is about a product that is now getting some great traffic. Right now It has affiliate stuff on it. I want to sell my own product so I will be turning this wordpress site into an ecommerce site. I want to redesign it so I am not looking for simple plugins to just add a cart. The part I am really confused about is what to do with my posts and categories? How does that work when turning this site into an ecommerce site? Lets say the site is "hats for adults" My post pages are things like "funny hats for adults", "hats for adult men" etc etc. Would I turn these posts pages into like category pages that have a category of products. Or should I create real categories and have my developer turn those into the ecommerce category pages and then redirect my posts to those categories? Maybe I don't even know what I am talking about. Is this even making sense? This is a small site (5posts and 1 category) and most of the traffic will come from the homepage keywords anyways.
