How do i prevent Google and Moz from counting pages as duplicates?
-
I have 130,000 profiles on my site. When not Connected to them they have very few differences. So a bot - not logged in, etc, will see a login form and "Connect to Profilename"
MOZ and Google call the links the same, even though theyre unique such as
example.com/id/328/name-of-this-group
example.com/id/87323/name-of-a-different-group
So how do i separate them? Can I use Schema or something to help identify that these are profile pages, or that the content on them should be ignored as its help text, etc?
Take facebook - each facebook profile for a name renders simple results:
https://www.facebook.com/public/John-Smith
https://www.facebook.com/family/Smith/
Would that be duplicate data if facebook had a "Why to join" article on all of those pages?

What about this idea:
We can flesh out profiles with Data, demographics, and contact info. No one cares about it, so we leave it off.
We can also customize it by a list of names that are connected, for those that have registrants
So 2 options: throw the demo info up on each, giving some unique content.
and or
Throw up member first names last init of those registered in them, then only index them if they have members?
However, 80% of our traffic comes from these "duplicate" pages.

Yes - we need the directories to be found in google
These profile pages are places in an organization to register at. Our brand name contains 3 utterly generic words, so the only thing showing up on radar are these profile names
Of course, removing it is a "solution" but no one hands a fat person a butcher knife and says "just cut it off"
I need to shape the content to be unique. I think its our "pitch" text that has more characters than the profile.

Yes, adding noindex to all profile pages will solev any current or future issues you might have. There is no point in having those pages into the index if the "actual" content is anyway invisibile. There is no point keeping over 100k pages in the index with only boilerplate on them.
You should no index all profiles asap - there is no value from an organic point of view there and if you do lose some traffic from those - the risk - reward (risk - losing some traffic / reward - keeping your domain overall safe) is without question towards the reward side.
Cheers.

One solution would be to not index the directory that has the profiles. Do you get many visits from organic search to these pages?

Google Detecting Real Page as Soft 404 Error
We've migrated my site from HTTP to HTTPS protocols in Sep 2017 but I noticed after migration soft 404 granularly increasing. Example of soft 404 page: https://bit.ly/2xBjy4J But these soft 404 error pages are real pages but Google still detects them as soft 404. When I checked the Google cache it shows me the cache but with HTTP page. We've tried all possible solutions but unable to figure out why Google is still indexing to HTTP pages and detecting HTTPS pages as soft 404 error. Can someone please suggest a solution or possible cause for this issue or anyone same issue like this in past.

Will google merge structured data from two pages if they have the same canonical?
Will google merge structured data from two pages if they have the same canonical? The crawler should be able to get to the tab through an ahref. The tab in question is "Cast & Crew." Thank you in advance for any insight! szmOmj8.jpg uM8qUfi.jpg

Why does Google display the home page rather than a page which is better optimised to answer the query?
I have a page which (I believe) is well optimised for a specific keyword (URL, title tag, meta description, H1, etc). yet Google chooses to display the home page instead of the page more suited to the search query. Why is Google doing this and what can I do to stop it?

Web accessibility - High Contrast web pages, duplicate content and SEO
Hi all, I'm working with a client who has various URL variations to display their content in High Contrast and Low Contrast. It feels like quite an old way of doing things. The URLs look like this: domain.com/bespoke-curtain-making/ - Default URL

domain.com/bespoke-curtain-making/?style=hc - High Contrast page
domain.com/bespoke-curtain-making/?style=lc - Low Contrast page My questions are: Surely this content is duplicate content according to a search engine Should the different versions have a meta noindex directive in the header? Is there a better way of serving these pages? Thanks.0 -
No-index pages with duplicate content?
Hello, I have an e-commerce website selling about 20 000 different products. For the most used of those products, I created unique high quality content. The content has been written by a professional player that describes how and why those are useful which is of huge interest to buyers. It would cost too much to write that high quality content for 20 000 different products, but we still have to sell them. Therefore, our idea was to no-index the products that only have the same copy-paste descriptions all other websites have. Do you think it's better to do that or to just let everything indexed normally since we might get search traffic from those pages? Thanks a lot for your help!

What's the best way to check Google search results for all pages NOT linking to a domain?
I need to do a bit of link reclamation for some brand terms. From the little bit of searching I've done, there appear to be several thousand pages that meet the criteria, but I can already tell it's going to be impossible or extremely inefficient to save them all manually. Ideally, I need an exported list of all the pages mentioning brand terms not linking to my domain, and then I'll import them into BuzzStream for a link campaign. Anybody have any ideas about how to do that? Thanks! Jon

Google Places: Multiple company listings. How to rank the HQ page over a branch location.
Hi Moz experts! I have a client with Google Place listings for multiple branch locations and for some reason the fully SEO optimized Head Office listing is being beaten by an un-optimized branch listing. The HQ listing gets a tonne of traffic where as the ranking and unoptimized branch location doesn't and is the main listing when searching through Google. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
