Making changes
-
Hello,
I need to make some major changes on my newly launched website which is already indexed by google and added in GWT.
Now, do I bring the current version of site down? and use Google URL removal to delete URLs?
The changes I am going to implement, is going to be alot, changes of contents, adding more pages, changing URL names and such.
Also not to mention, site is so new, has not traffic.
My plan is to have a fresh start with the new version.
Your advice is appreciated.

Personally I would make the changes and do a full manual crawl from within GWT Fetch and Submit, trying to unpick the current site will be time consuming and not really required as the site is so new ( ..having said that, how new is new?)
The only thing to bear in mind, is that you can only do a full fetch and crawl 10 times a month, so you might want to either wait until you are happy to do this, or do a full fetch on initial relaunch and then only Fetch and submit pages you then subsequently change.
Hope that helps

Moving wordpress themes, any best practices on setting up Google Analytics for the change?
We currently have a mess of filters and views in our Google Analytics instance. We have a chance to make a clean start. Wondering if creating a whole new property is a good idea? Or just some additional views? Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Webmaster Tools equivalent to Change Default Address found in Analytics
Hello all! We're changing from http to https. In Google Analytics there is an option to change the default address so we keep our historical data. I can't find a similar option in Webmaster Tools though. Do you have to setup a new property or is there an option to change your current one? Thanks in advance!

Domain Change Post Mortem
Hello, my company changed our domain 2 weeks ago and we are just starting to see traffic level back out, except for Organic. The site is on shopify so it made switching the domain pretty easy, as well as the 301 redirects (no url structure changes). We've taken all the proper steps with google/bing webmaster tools as well as monitoring 404's and 301 testing and don't see any red flags. Does anyone roughly know how long it takes for 301's to re-index and domain authority to start building back up for our new domain? Our old domain was about 13 years old and the new one was parked for quite awhile. p.s. I also noticed a lot of our traffic ending up as referral from our old url. I was able to wipe the sessions from analytics which cut it down, but will this persist for the foreseeable future? Thanks!

Huge Traffic Drop without any change on website
Hello there, I've experienced a huge website traffic drop and I can't find a reason. I redesigned and updated the SEO strategy in early December and the traffic was increasing, that's why I have no idea why that is happening. I have a video on home page and the views/day dropped a lot as well, but not as much as website visits! Any inputs? Best regards, NIB6rwF.png

Google Making all searches secure - "Not provided" data to increase in Analytics
A lot of you might already be aware of the recent Google change at encrypting all search activity except for clicks on ads. Rand did a whiteboard session on this recently. How is everyone planning to adjust their research data to accommodate for this change?

Where have the 'most changed keyword rankings' gone from the weekly summary emails?
Since the change to Moz we have noticed that the weekly summary emails do not show the 'most changed keyword rankings' table. We found these extremely helpful and would be disappointed to see these go. Are these going to make a come back?

IP address changed, subdomains added - how will affect?
Hello, Two weeks ago we have changed IP address of our website, also we've added new subdomains for static content (like img.domain.com & js.domain.com) and changed the links on the site accordingly. The old IP is also working and the old links are accessible too. For some reason, since the change, we see a SE (google) traffic constant drop everyday. I've read only Google's support (http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=34437) that such change shouldn't affect the ranking anyhow. On the other hand I've consulted with SEO people and was told that such change may affect in the close new feature (for couple of weeks) and then bring the ranking back. I would like to hear another opinion, I want to get back to our board with approved answers. Please advice. Thanks.

Google Analytics and DNS change
Our new alumni application is going be tested at domain uva.imodules.com . We are going to collect traffic data with a Google analytics account number UA-884652-XX. So going to uva.imodules.com/myPage.html would send its data to Google Analytics with that account number. Then when it is ready for production we are going to just change the domain name of the application and switch the DNS over to dardencommunity.darden.virginia.edu . So going to dardencommunity.darden.virginia.edu /myPage.html would send its data to Google Analtics with that SAME account number. Aside from having the testing domain data in the same profile are there any other issues/problems we may run into?
