Why is Google not indexing my site?
-
I'm a bit confused as to why my site just isn't indexing on Google. Even if I type in my brand name, my social channels rank and there's no evidence of my website. I've followed all of the advice I've read and gone into webmaster tools and got the Wordpress yoast plug-in but nothing seems to be making a difference! One thing I've noticed, in Google Webmaster Tools it says "Couldn’t communicate with the DNS server." in site errors. I've called GoDaddy and they said that everything is fine. A bit frustrating. Trying to work out what my next steps should be but feeling a bit lost to be honest! Any help GREATLY appreciated!

These two URL's
http://simplycrowngreenbowls.wordpress.com/
http://simplycrowngreenbowls.com/
Should 301 Redirect to
-
Got ya. Sorry for being slow, but what should I make sure is pointed there?
-
Your best bet would be to login to the WP account and have it redirect to your new site. This would be the quickest way to let Google know that the WP site is the old site, plus if you had any links to it the juice would flow to the new one instead of going away.
-
Preferred Landing Page.
-
Ah I see, thank you. I've deleted the wordpress.com site, I started it before the proper site and don't need it so hopefully simplycrowngreenbowls.co.uk will start to replace that?
-
Apparently Google thinks the http://simplycrowngreenbowls.wordpress.com/ site is more relevant. (I see that this is also your site.) Google cached the .wordpress site first, so it might just be holding on to that because there is no overwhelming reason not to.
You have a line in the content of that .wordpress page instructing people to go to simplycrowngreenbowls.co.uk, but you do not actually 301 redirect the page. As Shawn said, you should do that.
If you do a Bing or Yahoo search your site simplycrowngreenbowls.co.uk comes up first, and as I mentioned I can find your site with the site: operator in Google, so I do not think it is a case of your preferred site not being findable. (I also took a look with Screaming Frog and didn't see any glaring errors.)
-
How come I don't see my site if i type in "simply crown green bowls"?
-
I can see your site indexed in Google. When I do site:simplycrowngreenbowls.co.uk in a Google search bar, I see nine pages from your site come up.
-
Thanks Shawn. What do you mean by get everything to point to your PLP?
-
That shouldn't be an issue as long as you have the correct DNS in the settings.
Something I noticed, is this you as well? http://simplycrowngreenbowls.wordpress.com/
If it is, you might want to do a 301 redirect from that to your domain.
Are you parking the US version of the domain? I found http://simplycrowngreenbowls.com/ and it shows GoDaddy.com saying that the domain is parked for free courtesy of GoDaddy.
My guess, and I am by no imagination a server wizard, there is a disconnect with what you want to rank and what Google is finding. I would talk with 1and1 or GoDaddy to see if they can help you get everything to point to your PLP and go from there.
I am all over the place on this reply, but hopefully it helps get you in the right direction.
-
By the way, GoDaddy is the host and 1and1 is registrar. Could that be causing a problem? I spoke to them both today and both said they couldn't see any problems.
-
Hi Shawn,
I don't mind posting the URL, it's http://simplycrowngreenbowls.co.uk
It would be fantastic to know if you see any technical issues.
-
Without knowing the URL it's hard to troubleshoot if there are technical issues with the page/site.
If you don't want to post personal or business stuff here no worries.
Things to try:
-
Screaming Frog - have it crawl your URL to find any issues
-
Do a Google site search to see if they have any pages indexed
-
Use semRush for those URL's and see if any keywords rank
-
Is GoDaddy your host or just the registrar? If they are not your host, contact them. Make sure to provide the exact error from GWT to help troubleshoot
-
Check robots.txt to ensure that isn't blocking.
Those are the few things top of head I would try
-
-
OK, thanks.
Any idea where the problem lies then? The site is about two months old and competing for moderately low competition key words and is just not ranking, even if I type in the brand name!
-
That is correct, if there was an issue it would say partial or something else and then you could click into it to see what Google sees.
-
Hi Shawn,
Thanks for the response. It says completed with a green tick so I presume that's fine?
-
Try to fetch your site as Google in GWT to see what it says. If there are DNS errors, it should give you some indication of where the error is.

Over 40+ pages have been removed from the indexed and this page has been selected as the google preferred canonical. https://studyplaces.com/about-us/ The pages affected by this include: https://studyplaces.com/50-best-college-party-songs-of-all-time-and-why-we-love-them/ https://studyplaces.com/15-best-minors-for-business-majors/ As you can see the content on these pages is totally unrelated to the content on the about-us page. Any ideas why this is happening and how to resolve.

Google is indexing our old domain
We changed our primary domain from vivitecsolutions.com to vivitec.net. Google is indexing our new domain, but still has our old domain indexed too. The problem is that the old site is timing out because of the https: Thought on how to make the old indexing go away or properly forward the https?

WMT "Index Status" vs Google search site:mydomain.com
Hi - I'm working for a client with a manual penalty. In their WMT account they have 2 pages indexed. If I search for "site:myclientsdomain.com" I get 175 results which is about right. I'm not sure what to make of the 2 indexed pages - any thoughts would be very appreciated. google-1.png google-2.png

Why are URLs like www.site.com/#something being indexed?
So, everything after a hash (#) is not supposed to be crawled and indexed. Has that changed? I see a clients site with all sorts of URLs indexed like ... http://www.website.com/#!category/c11f For the above URL, I thought it was the same as simply http://www.website.com/. But they aren't, they're getting indexed and all the content on the pages with these hash tags are getting crawled as well. Thanks!

Google couldn't access your site because of a DNS error
Hello, We've being doing SEO work for a company for about 8 months and it's been working really well, we've lots of top threes and first pages. Or rather we did. Unfortunately the web host who the client uses (who to recommended them not to) has had severe DNS problems. For the last three weeks Google has been unable to access and index the website. I was hoping this was going to be a quickly resolved and everything return to normal. However this week their listing have totally dropped, 25 page one rankings has become none, Google Webmaster tools says 'Google couldn't access your site because of a DNS error'. Even searching for their own domain no longer works! Does anyone know how this will effect the site in the long term? Once the hosts sort it out will the rankings bounce back. Is there any sort of strategy for handling this problem? Ideally we'd move host but I'm not sure that is possible so any other options, or advice on how it will affect long term rankings so I can report to my client would be appreciated. Many thanks Ric

Can I turn off Google site links?
I thought at one time I had turned off the option to have Google sitelinks. I did this so that each of our pages that had a strong presence would occupy a unique slot on the first and second page of Google. This was important to us as we were battling some reputation management issues and trying to push out negative listings from the front page. Recently I noticed sitelinks were back up and when going into Google Webmaster Tools, I could figure out how to opt out of them. Any suggestions?

Google Indexing
Hi Everybody, I am having kind of an issue when it comes to the results Google is showing on my site. I have a multilingual site, which is main language is Catalan. But of course if I am looking results in Spanish (google.es) or in English (google.com) I want Google to show the results with the proper URL, title and descriptions. My brand is "Vallnord" so if you type this in Google you will be displayed the result in Catalan (Which is not optimized at all yet) but if you search "vallnord.com/es" only then you will be displayed the result in Spanish What do I have to do in order for Google to read this the way I want? Regards, Guido.

I am trying to block robots from indexing parts of my site..
I have a few websites that I mocked up for clients to check out my work and get a feel for the style I produce but I don't want them indexed as they have lore ipsum place holder text and not really optimized... I am in the process of optimizing them but for the time being I would like to block them. Most of my warnings and errors on my seomoz dashboard are from these sites and I was going to upload the folioing to the robot.txt file but I want to make sure this is correct: User-agent: * Disallow: /salondemo/ Disallow: /salondemo3/ Disallow: /cafedemo/ Disallow: /portfolio1/ Disallow: /portfolio2/ Disallow: /portfolio3/ Disallow: /salondemo2/ is this all i need to do? Thanks Donny
