Traffic from YouTube
-
Hi
I've suggested a client add annotated links to the end of their YT vids to help get traffic from YT
My clients video guy has suggested setting up a hidden redirect page so we can tell how many people come to the website from youtube
I take it this is not necessary since traffic from YT will be easily identified by Google analytics anyway ?
Cheers

And, yes two your last two questions.
Use the the additional tags to specify the video content. Will allow you to attribute conversions, goals, everything in GA.
-
Just start using tagged URLs.
You our will find the data under Aquisition->Campaigns.
Be sure to name consistently. YouTube is different than youtube.
-
That's great thanks Anthony !!
Do i need to set anything up directly in GA (custom campaigns) or just filling in that form and using the subsequent url will be all that's required to start tracking ?
Also i take it via this method we can set up different url for each video to compare the performance of each videos ability to drive traffic ?
Also if i link to product/landing pages from a video does GA e-commerce tracking report the link/campaign as a source of conversions ?
All Best

IMO, the best solution would be to Tag your URLs with UTM Tags.
- Source: youtube
- Medium: social
- Name: annotations
With this method, you can link to anywhere on your site and get accurate data in analytics. You can learn more about them here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033867?hl=en

Thanks for the info David
So if i did that (goals) would there be no need for setting up hidden redirect the video guy suggested ?
Since we are wanting traffic to go straight to homepage can you edit goals so only registers a goal when coming from a certain location (YT) ?
thanks

Thanks Noran
Surely GA does show traffic from YT to a website since is referral traffic and would be listed ? but that could be from anywhere on YT not necessarily clients YT channel/videos hence we do want to set up tracking. So is a hidden redirect a good way to do this ?
cheers

If you want the most accurate traffic report possible, then I would set up a custom goal in analytics using your landing page URL. Depending upon what you are trying to do, you could set up a page that is targeted directly to your YouTube refferals, and focus on promoting conversions. Or another option is to just clone the home page to a different URL and set it to NO INDEX, NO FOLLOW and have them land on that when they click the link.

From my understanding, you're asking if you should have tracking from youtube to your website, or if Google Analytics will show that traffic based on how much traffic your YT is getting.
If that is the case, then I would suggest tracking them individually as you said. The Google Analytics tracking only tracks how many people go to your youtube, not how many people go to youtube and click your website link.
Therefore, Google Analytics will not show traffic going from youtube to your website, only your traffic to youtube.
Hope this helps.

Hi guys, I need to create a subscribe end-off to my YouTube videos. I need something like this - https://www.youtube.com/user/SeattleCoffeeGear - where the red gear at the bottom pops up with a bright red "subscribe" CTA. How do I do this?

Will Facebook traffic hurt our SEO? Should we put our blog on the core domain or sub domain?
We are concerned that social traffic could hurt our SEO. What do you think... Our average time on site from organic search traffic is 7 minutes. Facebook traffic has an average time on site of 1 minute. Both traffic sources are going to different pages. If we generate 3 times as much traffic from Facebook as we do from google this will pull down our overall average time on site and engagement levels big time. Should we put our blog on the core domain or a subdomain? Right now we are holding back on promoting on facebook because we are concerned it could hurt our SEO, what do you think? Should we try to get as much traffic as possible from Facebook even though the engagement is much lower? Should we put our blog which is generating the low engagement traffic from facebook on the core domain or a subdomain?

Is it important for SEO that YouTube and Google + be used under the same Google Account?
Hello - I have a client that has their Google Plus and YouTube under separate Google accounts. My thoughts are that it'd be best for SEO and awareness with Google that their active YouTube channel to be under their active Google Plus account. My question is: Is it recommended for SEO that we upload the videos to her prominent Google business account (they only have about 100 subscribers)? If we did this we would delete them from the other account to avoid dup. content. We are in a position where we can make this change easily if it is recommended and good for SEO--which I would think it would be. So we would like to know now if we should make this change before we grow the YouTube channel further, or if we should leave it how it is. Any insight would be very helpful! Thank you!

YouTube Channels - Geotargeting - UK & US specific YT channels (but with identical videos)
Can you have one for each region such as Uk & US like you might with FaceBook etc: I know its a good idea for Geo-targeting reasons to have country specific social pages to promote country specific websites (i.e. UK FaceBook for .co.uk website and US Facebook for .com site etc), does the same apply to YouTube ? Does YouTube allow this (since videos will be effectively the same on both channels) ? I would hope so since say if you wanted to exploit annotated links to the main site from the videos then you would want the US viewer following a link to a US product page not a UK page and vice versa ? Many Thanks Dan

How to get most out of viral blog traffic?
Our website has a WordPress blog, hosted at website.com/blog. I've discovered that with some hard work and a bit of luck, I can create a blog posts that will go viral - they will get about 50k readers in 1-3 days (which is a LOT for our website), and 300-1000 tweets, 100-250 Facebook shares, and anywhere from 10 to 130~ G+1s. (Unfortunately, these are for the posts, not for our website.) The posts will also get some comments. And most importantly, a few links - sometimes from very reputable domains. However, I feel that I could be doing much more here. The links go directly to the blog post, and I'm not sure how much is that helping our website overall in regards to SEO. What actions can I encourage the readers to do, and how should I prioritize them? Some of the actions are: Sharing/liking, writing a comment, checking out our products, subscribing to our Facebook/Twitter/G+ profile, subscribing to our RSS. One another possible action/opportunity that I see and which could potentially pay off is to offer some kind of PDF report to be emailed, which would initiate an autoresponder sequence. Do you think that having a clear call to action in a blog post could reduce the sharing of it ? Is it possible to encourage whoever is writing about our blog posts to use a direct link to our website, instead of linking directly to the post? If yes, how? E.g. if I included a direct link to our website in the post itself, e.g. in the most important part of the post that gets quoted, it could work - unfortunately that's usually virtually impossible. Am I sitting on a gold mine here, and should do this as much as possible? Should I consider putting this content not just onto the blog, but on our website.com/something ? I'm actually not sure how that would help though, it would simply have a shorter URL. I've discovered that it doesn't matter where I post this content, if the presentation looks decent. So it doesn't have to be posted on website.com/blog. I can even post it on other domains - should I? And the most important question: How do I get the most out of this opportunity in SEO regards? Thanks for any ideas or insights!
