Link Auditing
-
Anyone have any useful ways to link audit? I'm stuck picking up the slack from a previous worker who decided buying links was a great idea for our clients.
-
There's lots already written about this, but here are my quick thoughts:
-Don't rely on an automated tool.
-Get links from all available sources - GWT sample, GWT most recent, ahrefs, majestic, OSE, Bing Webmaster Tools if available.
-Break it down to one link from each domain.
-Check each domain and determine whether the link is one that was made for SEO purposes.
-If you're not sure, err on the side of disavowing.
-See if the client was given a list of links that were made for them. If so, then start by disavowing those.
Hope that helps!

Thanks Andy! This will save me time!

Hi
I was going to write a in-depth answer, but this previous blog article is my bible for link auditing. I would only be duplicating everything that is mentioned and as we know duplicate content isn't good for SEO.

Thanks

Should I ask sites that link to me to update links that redirect?
I have found some links to my site that go through a single 301 redirect to get to my site. Should I contact these websites to ask them to update the link, or is that not worth the time?

Internal Linking Building
I'm launching a new blog for my new website. What's the best way to do internal link building for 3D Scanning? Do I link 3D Scanning to another page on my website or on a different website that has high authority for 3D scanning? Thank You in advance! -Nick

Outbound links
We are working with a large, global customer that has asked us to link to their website from about 5,000 pages of our website. The links would either point to one page on their website, or they would point to specific pages throughout their website. Is this a bad thing from an SEO perspective, as in - would either of us be penalized from search engines for doing this?

Deep Links From Same Domain
I know that it is best to diversify your inbound link profile, but I would like to know the best practices for a domain as a whole as opposed to the domains component pages. If I have a good link source (say for example Squidoo) that can provide links to a website's home page AND a few of its lower tier pages, are all these links of more or less equal value (for seo purposes) to each of the link targets, or does Google simply use a "one source domain, one counted link" approach? Thanks Bill

Discovering all outgoing links.
I'm sure there is an easy to do this with Open Site Explorer but I haven't found it yet. I'd like to find every link leaving our domain and going to another. But I can't find a way to generate a list of all OUTGOING links, only incoming. Any tips?

Link Building Template
Hi all, I am looking to find an actionable, easy to use, link building template to be used by myself as well as across office/clients. Key subject areas for link building have been defined but I am keen to apply a template to past and future link building opportunities as I build on the link building tactics I have a number of link building targets e.g. form competitor analysis, existing links from websites and looking to reach out to amend their anchor text, prospect websites Does anyone have a good insight into categorising the different link building targets by sector? Many thanks Simon

SEOs and web developers frequently leave links to their site in the footer of their clients' sites. Does this negatively impact the site with the links?
Does this provide any SEO value to the receiving site? Has anyone experienced problems doing this?

Should I unify my links?
Checking at opensiteexplorer.org I can see that: mydomain.com has has DA 26, linking root domains 1, total links 22 www.mydomain.com has DA 26, linking root domains 31, total links 89 The 22 links to the non-www domain come from the same site, which I would be able to convince to change to the www domain. Is it worth doing it? Will it add up to better DA? Thanks J PS: with only 32 root domains I think I have to do some serious link building...
