Crawl issues
-
Hello there,
I have found that when crawling my site I have errors regarding the meta description and it says it is missing from few pages.
I checked these pages but there is a meta description. I also ran the same report with other tools and it comes up the same issues.
What should I do?

Hi there! Did you see the most recent comment? An example URL would be very helpful! Also, what tool(s) are you using to crawl your site?
Christy

Do you have an example of a URL that is allegedly missing a description?
Cheers

Crawler issues on subdomain - Need resolving?
Hey Guys, I'm fairly new to the world of SEO and have a ton of crawler issues with a friends website I'm doing some work on. After Moz did a site crawl I'm getting loads of errors (Total of 100+ for critical crawler, content and meta data). Most of these are due to broken social links on a subdomain - so my question is do I need to resolve all of the errors even if they are on a sub-domain? Will it affect the primary website? Thanks, Jack

Google crawling but not indexing for no apparent reason
Client's site went secure about two months ago and chose root domain as rel canonical (so site redirects to https://rootdomain.com (no "www"). Client is seeing the site recognized and indexed by Google about every 3-5 days and then not indexed until they request a "Fetch". They've been going through this annoying process for about 3 weeks now. Not sure if it's a server issue or a domain issue. They've done work to enhance .htaccess (i.e., the redirects) and robots.txt. If you've encountered this issue and have a recommendation or have a tech site or person resource to recommend, please let me know. Google search engine results are respectable. One option would be to do nothing but then would SERPs start to fall without requesting a new Fetch? Thanks in advance, Alan

Index bloating issue
Hello, In the last month, I noticed a huge spike in the number of pages indexed on my site, which I think is impacting my SEO quality score. While I've only have about 90 pages on my site map, the number of pages indexed jumped to 446, with about 536 pages being blocked by robots. At first we thought this might be due to duplicate product pages showing up in different categories on my site, but we added something to our robot.txt file to not index those pages. But the number has not gone down. I've tried to consult with our hosting vendor, but no one seems to be concerned or have any idea why there was such a big jump in the last month. Any insights or pointers would be so greatly appreciated, so that I can fix/improve my SEO as quickly as possible! Thanks!

Can too many pages hurt crawling and ranking?
Hi, I work for local yellow pages in Belgium, over the last months we introduced a succesfull technique to boost SEO traffic: we have created over 150k of new pages, all targeting specific keywords and all containing unique content, a site architecture to enable google to find these pages through crawling, xml sitemaps, .... All signs (traffic, indexation of xml sitemaps, rankings, ...) are positive. So far so good. We are able to quickly build more unique pages, and I wonder how google will react to this type of "large scale operation": can it hurt crawling and ranking if google notices big volumes of content (unique content)? Please advice

MSNbot Issues
We found msnbot is doing lots of request at same time to one URL, even considering we have caching, it triggers many requests at same time so caching does not help at the moment: For sure we can use mutex to make sure URL waits for cache to generate, but we are looking for solution for MSN boot. 123.253.27.53 [11/Dec/2012:14:15:10 -0600] "GET //Fun-Stuff HTTP/1.1" 200 0 "-" "msnbot/2.0b (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)" 1.253.27.53 [11/Dec/2012:14:15:10 -0600] "GET //Type-of-Resource/Fun-Stuff HTTP/1.1" 200 0 "-" "msnbot/2.0b (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)" 1.253.27.53 [11/Dec/2012:14:15:10 -0600] "GET /Browse//Fun-Stuff HTTP/1.1" 200 6708 "-" "msnbot/2.0b (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)" We found the following solution: http://www.bing.com/community/site_blogs/b/webmaster/archive/2009/08/10/crawl-delay-and-the-bing-crawler-msnbot.aspx Bing offers webmasters the ability to slow down the crawl rate to accommodate web server load issues. User-Agent: * Crawl-Delay: 10 Need to know if it’s safe to apply that. OR any other advices. PS: MSNBot gets so bad at times that it could trigger a DOS attack – alone! Firefox Add-On for crawl frequency??
Hi all, a short one: is there a firefox add-on available, which lets you see the crawl frequency of your page(s)? Would be interesting to see if google bot comes around more lately... There are some statistics in the webmaster tools, but I don't find them very attractive 🙂 I know there is something for Wordpress, but we don't use it... I don't to put up an excel-sheet and check the cache-version for myself. And I would love to see how deep the crawler gets and which sites do not get crawled... So, any existing add-ons or tools that are for free?? 🙂 Thanx....

Rankings Issues
website: trophycentral.com Back in February of this year, we took a huge rankings hit on Google. We thought it might be Panda related, but realized it was before the big change. We also thought it could be related to our Mobile rollout and a wholesale system we put in place, but were not sure. Most pages were fine, but our home page was hit hard and taken off line, included for branded terms (although the branded terms came back in a couple of weeks). There were no manual actions against us. We made a ton of changes with the mobile site, crawl issues, reducing links, reviewing and removing potentially bad outside links, etc. After a few months (long time!) almost all of our keywords came back except one, trophies. We used to rank in the top few positions and now are not in the top 500. We believe we are being penalized, but have no idea why this one keyword is being impacted. It is obviously a huge one for us and we want to get it back. Does anyone have any ideas as to why Trophies is not ranking on our home page. We are grateful that we have many other words and phrases in the top 5 positions (not pages) of google, yahoo and bing, but on Google, we cant seem to get trophies to even show up! Please help!!! Thanks!!!

Penality issues
Hi there, I'm working on site that has been badly hit by penguin. The reasons are clear, exact match blog network links and tons of spammy exact match links such as comment spam, low quality directories, the usual junk. The spammy links were mainly to 2 pages, they were targetting keyword 1 and keyword 2. I'd like to remove these two pages from google, as they dont even rank in google now and create one high quality page that targets both the keywords, as they are similar. The dilemma I have is these spammy pages still get traffic from bing and yahoo and it's profitable traffic. Is there a safe way to remove the pages from google and leave them for bing and yahoo? Peter
