Missing Inbound Linking Domains
-
For some reason, our websites seem to be missing a number of authoritative inbound linking domains which seems to be a primary driver in lowering our domain authority as compared to our competition. Does anyone have any feedback as to why this might not be populating or is there something additional we need to do to have these show up? If it doesn't show up in MOZ is it likely that Google might also not be seeing these as inbound link domains?
Thanks as always MOZ Community!

No-follows are typically reserved for spaces that are prone to spam - blogs, comment sections, etc. It is rare to have a company no-follow a link in the way you are suggesting. In the end, this method wouldn't be doing them any favors either. You can use SEOQuake or SEO Spyglass (Powersuite) to determine if a link is follow or no-follow.
If you have had these links for some time, one possible alternative is that the pages you had links on have been removed as part of a website overhaul on the part of those dealer groups.
If they are not showing up, there are 2 possible solutions: Either the new software hasn't crawled them (or analytics hasn't picked them up yet), or the page the links were on have been moved.
Another approach could be to get in touch with the folks who you are missing links from and explaining the situation to them. Since they linked to you before, I don't see why they wouldn't again, as long as you are honest and open about it

We are a large dealer group in North Carolina and I notice very large links from AutoTrader, Edmunds and others not showing up in our links. I just read about some links having no-follow tags and wonder if some of these large websites might be utilizing this type of tactic in their linking strategy... is that a commonplace tactic or is it possible that with highly authoritative domain authorities that websites like this with long-standing links to us are not showing up?
Thanks again all - and cheers!

Hello Dave,
The analytics Moz uses can take up to a month for registration and population - as Richard says, Google has probably already crawled and indexed your site (including link profile) and Roger will likely be doing so soon (if it hasn't already).
There are other tools you can use to check your inbound link profile and DA (Majestic, SEMrush and SEO Powersuite, for example).
I wouldn't worry about this for now - give it a month and if nothing has changed, consider running a site audit to determine if you are suffering due to technical SEO details.
Cheers!

Moz has their own crawler and their own index. Roger (the name of the crawler) can't feasibly crawl the entire web at the scale that Google can. It's nothing to worry about, likely Google sees the links and Roger will eventually.
If you want to see if the link is indexed, just search it in Google. You can also see incoming links in Google Webmaster Tools. If it's in there, Google sees it.

Specifically focused on our linking root domains, the seemingly highest correlating factor between our competitors higher domain authority than what we are seeing... thanks again all!

Should I ask sites that link to me to update links that redirect?
I have found some links to my site that go through a single 301 redirect to get to my site. Should I contact these websites to ask them to update the link, or is that not worth the time?

What is the number of links do you require your link builder to attain each week or month? What is a reasonable goal?
Hello Mozzers... I would like to get a survey or feedback from other Mozzers who owns an SEO company or manages / hire link builders. **What is the average number of links does your link builder need to attain per week or month? what is their goal? ** I understand quality over quantity but I want to make sure there is a reasonable average to provide them goals and something to achieve on. Of course reward them more if they exceed or get .edu links. What do you institute? What do you think is fair and achievable per website? PS. There is no right or wrong answers here. I am looking for a measurable answer not subjectable. Again just gathering MEASURABLE GOALS.

Total Links vs Google Webmaster Site Links
I am interested why the numbers between SEOmoz and Google are so different. In SEOmoz we only show 17,000ish links from 190ish domains. In Google, we show 200,000+ links from 370 domains. Why is there such a dramatic difference?

OSE shows links on sites but can't find links
Hi mozzers, I'm cleaning up our backlink profile and looking up anchortexts in OSE. I downloaded and selected one anchortext. However when I go to the sites OSE found, I can't find the links. I look in the source code and onpage keywords. Is it because of my lack of skills that I can't find the links 🙂 or isn't OSE working properly.

What link would be better?
Okay, I found a niche blog that has a google PR6. They have a ton of dollow blogroll links, as well as a ton of internal links on homepage. Would I be better off getting the blogroll link? Getting a link in an existing post with a lower PR? Getting an advertiorial written with a link in it? I just don't know. It has a domain authority of 33 currently. It's not a cheap link for blogroll. The in-post, or advertorial isn't too bad, but not cheap either. Thanks in advance.

What percentage of my links should be directory links
I feel a lot of my link building might be a bit heavy on the directory links side. Should I limit the percentage amount of links as a part of my overall link profile? If yes what percentage of links is ok to be directory links?
