Change of address form in Webmaster Tools
-
I have changed my domain from .co.uk to .com and tried to submit a change of address form in Google Webmaster Tools. However it seems because I redirect my home page onto www.domain.com/index.php I cannot submit the form as it is not a domain name.
Is there a way round this? It is not currently an option to move away from www.domain.com/index.php
Thanks in advance

Okay so you need to use the root to verify the domain first.
Just stop the redirect to /index.php long enough for you to insert Google's verification code. Then turn back on the redirect. What google is trying to accomplish is to verify you actually do own the new domain. Since some domains share directories this is the only way for them to know you do own the domain since you can verify you control it at root.
Hope that helps,
Don

Thank you for responding.
We submitted domain.uk as moving to domain.com (without the index.php) but it seems Google followed that redirect.
It gave the following error when I clicked check on stage 2 or the form (Confirming the redirect).
"The old site redirects to www.domain.com/index.php, which does not correspond to the new site you chose."
How did you get round that?

You should submit the domain1 to domain2, let the redirect handle the /index.php
We have a domain that is listed as domain1.com to domain2.com but on domain2 you automatically get redirected to the /catalog directory. This has had no known ill effects. In sense you are in fact domain2 you just don't use it as your root.
I hope that makes sense,
Don

Should I consider webmaster tools links and linked pages ratio to remove unnatural links?
I don't know this is a suitable place for post this question. Anyway I have done it. According to the Google webmaster tools, Links to your site page. My blog has considerable amount of links, from linked pages (from certain domain names). For an instance please refer following screenshot. When I am removing unnatural links, should I consider these, links from linked pages ratio? Almost all of these sites are social bookmarking sites. When I publish a new bookmark on those sites, they automatically add a homepage link. As a result of that, I got a huge number of home page links from linked pages. What is your recommendation? Thanks! webmaster.png web_master_tools.png

Changing Domain Name
Hi all, A client has just got their .edu domain and they want to change their current domain name (a .com) to this new .edu domain. The domain's CMS is Wordpress. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but basically I will need to create a new site (but they want to keep current design), move everything across to the new domain name, and 301 URL per URL? What about all the citations that the old URLs have gotten? The website is listed on Google listings/maps for some of their local keywords. Is there anyway to preserve this? Thank you all in advance.

Will This Domain Change Hurt
I have a potential client that is looking to change their domain for branding reasons, but does not want to lose their solid SERP position. I'm not concerned about links continuing to pass juice as he was (though I am concerned about the link profile). What I am concerned about is domain age (moving from a 4 year old domain to one that has just been parked for 4 years but not used, or one that is currently just a redirect to his site), and the fact that his current URL is an EMD. He is using his state (only really does work there), plus two solid keywords in the domain, and wants to switch to brand name with one of the two solid keywords he was using. My initial thought is "if it's not broke, don't fix it." How worried should I be about rankings if we change this domain. Thanks for the help, and fire back any questions. Sorry I'm a little vague.

301 mistake in Google Webmaster Tools?
Google webmaster tools has a warning for our site map saying that this url (and a couple of others) have a 301 redirect in them. http://www.aquinasandmore.com/catholic-gifts/Immaculate-Heart-of-Mary-Bookmark/sku/59682 I've checked the link and don't see that it actually is redirecting. Any thoughts on why this is popping up?
