Disavowing Links: Over-optimized Anchor Text
-
If a site has been effected by Penguin, and the main issue is over-optimized anchor text. Would the disavow file take care of this?
If there is a no-follow added to the link when Google next crawls the site, wouldn't you still have the optimized anchor text in your profile?

No manual action. I have seen some fluctuation in rankings, and I am trying to figure out if it is Penguin related.
Thanks for the help.

How do you know the main issue is over-optimized anchor text? Did you get a manual action notification in GWT or is this effect your assumption? This would be an important distinction because you'd get some good info from the GWT team about what happened to your site. Some sites take a temporary hit after new algorithm updates, so if this just happened I'd give it a little time before making drastic changes to your site.
It's unclear whether it's your site that's hosting the links or if other site(s) are linking to yours. Follow Googles guidelines about linking https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2648487?hl=en and read up on how and why to disavow backlinks here https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2648487?hl=en. Being honest to yourself is the best policy here, so if you're taking or paying money for these links, you or your associates should use the nofollow attribute according to Google's guidelines. You can learn more about anchor text here on MOZ http://moz.com/learn/seo/anchor-text. It's believed that links with the nofollow attribute won't pass PageRank, so the anchor text of such links won't hurt or help with search engines but may be valuable to your readers. More about how to use the nofollow attribute here https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/96569?hl=en.
Now if you actually got notified of a manual action, then you'll need to submit a reconsideration request in GWT. We don't have enough information here on how Google will deal with your site on the next crawl, but I would recommend a consistent, site-wide approach to SEO rather than just changing a few links you think might be hurting you.

Is it okay to use anchor text almost exclusively for inbound links?
We are not spammy - each link is earned through a long process of relationship building and targeted guest post writing. Because of this, we like each link to have anchor text and they don't point to the same page or have the same anchor text. Is this still something to be worried about? Do we still need to include plain URLs (wwww.example.com) for some of those links?

Jquery image - hidden text?
I'm working on a site that has a jquery image rotation. Wondering if how the developer set it up is consider blackhat or spammy at all. The jquery has 3 images that rotate. Each image has text in it - which is then placed in a H1 or H2 tag behind the images. When viewing the site with images and javascript turned off it looks like the text is the same color as the background and not lined up nicely so that it is visible to anyone who has images and javascript turned off. Let me know if this is a bad practice. If so, what is the best practice to handle this? If the text were another color and aligned neatly visible behind the image would it be safe? Should we just be using an image alt tag instead? What about losing the H1, H2 power then? Any other suggestions for improving the SEO for jquery image rotations where important text appears? I can PM the site URL if you want to take a look. Thanks in advance!

Replace Header Text With Image
I have a static website that I would like to retheme. I have the mockup, and its spliced. The website holds nice rankings right now, and I want to keep them in place. The one thing that will change with this new design is the header will no longer be text, but instead an image. Is there a way to ensure googlebot still sees the H1 tag header exactly how it is now but use an image for the header instead? I dont want any blackhat tricks that will get me banned. Just wondering if there is a simple way to have googlebot see the header as text (not ALT img txt) so the site does not appear to have changed at all. (It hasnt, I only am changing the graphics and colors of background, and header image for better branding.

Anchor text diversity
I understand that getting links to a site all with the same anchor text is probably not a good thing, but what is a good ratio of anchor text diversity? should about 60% of the links pointing to a page that i am trying to rank be the keyword i am trying to rank for? or is it more like 20%?

Explain Competitive Link Analysis
Hi all...bit of a newbie into the SEO world! So excuse me if this question makes me sound simple 🙂 Basically we have recently had a link analysis done on our site but I'm finding it a little bit difficuilt to actually understand what it all means. What are followed and nofollowed links? What is the sort of ratio needed between the two for best results. And my next question being what are followed linking root domains and nofollowed linking root domains?

Internal Linking: Site-wide VS Content Links
I just watched this video in which Matt Cutts talks about the ancient 100 links per page limit. I often encounter websites which have massive navigation (elaborate main menu, side bar, footer, superfooter...etc) in addition to content area based links. My question is do you think Google passes votes (PageRank and anchor text) differently from template links such as navigation to the ones in the content area, if so have you done any testing to confirm?
